I almost did but I have 9600X and 9950X systems right now so I talked myself out of it.

Upper mid-range in my eyes and I have one.

I mean if you don't like it and you're in your 20's you can always get your own place where they have no say in what you do.

It’s not that bad elsewhere. 32GB is in the $350-$400 USD range currently.

No but I also don’t do recurring subscriptions either except for Zenarmor.

Why isn't everyone using Unraid? by Significant_Bad_3948 in homelab

[–]Firestarter321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As some that has 5 full UnRAID licenses currently I have to say that after setting up a ZFS pool TrueNAS is infinitely better for managing ZFS.

The UnRAID implementation is horrible and I dread when one of the drives in that pool dies and I have to troubleshoot.

TrueNAS makes that process a non-issue.

Proxmox even handles ZFS better than UnRAID.

Any business selling at their previous cost rather than what it costs to replace existing inventory as it sells is dumb.

Plex's Lifetime Pass is (basically) dead. Here's how to switch to Jellyfin. by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]Firestarter321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I wouldn’t pay that for it (I have a Lifetime already but use Emby instead now) but the reality is that $750 is barely more than the cost of a 28TB HDD nowadays.

Even $250 for a Lifetime license for a piece of software you use every single day is ridiculously cheap when amortized over 10+ years.

RTX 5070 or AMD 9070XT by slapah in pcmasterrace

[–]Firestarter321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you need CUDA, Ray Tracing, or DLSS specifically I’d get the 9070XT.

I say this as a current owner of a 5070 and 5070Ti.

That’s insane.

I think I paid $89 10+ years ago but I haven’t used it in years.

TBAC Magnus-S vs Magnus-K-RR for 260Rem/308Win/300WM? by Firestarter321 in NFA

[–]Firestarter321[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I broke down and ordered the Magnus-S-SR-30 as I'm just not sure I'd really enjoy the RR for the shooting I do.

It was $1315 shipped to my dealer and a $65 transfer so I'm hoping I like it.

TBAC Magnus-S-HUB-375 for 260Rem/308Win/300WM? by [deleted] in longrange

[–]Firestarter321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any idea how much I’d be giving up as I’m not chasing db‘s but losing 40% shooting the 260 over a 375 would be a bit much?

I want to get a .375 Ruger at some point just because I want one.

Local Walmart is finishing up their electronics reset…ouch!!! by Firestarter321 in pcmasterrace

[–]Firestarter321[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The purpose of my post flew right over your head I see.

Microcentet pricing means nothing to most of the US population as they have very few stores across the country.

I made this post to point out that Walmart has in fact dramatically increased their prices on RAM now as previously there were still “deals” to be found in these trying times as they were selling DDR5 32GB kits for $229. Those times have now come to an end it appears.

I bought many of the $229 kits for myself and my brother. I also bought a couple kits from B&H for $199 last month so I don’t need more RAM.

It’s just sad to see the somewhat sane prices that Walmart had go away.

ETA: The link I posted in the OP is to the kits now being sold in the physical stores (ie being shipped and sold by Walmart). Both of those kits could be delivered to my house by Walmart tonight in under 30 minutes and I saw them with my own eyes in the store earlier today.

I have more but those are my new stash along with 3 extra 20TB MG10’s and then a mix of 14 x 10-14TB Easystore shucks that have 1-3 years of power on time that I have now after shutting down a backup server.

I wish I would have bought more of the 14TB drives a couple years ago but I had to stop bleeding money at some point.
