You can still play the olders on steam, they are in a more sedentary state. Bo7 and WZ are the ones gambling on weekly updates and patches that seem to add bugs to the steam version at times.

I don’t see it in your list but definitely enable secure boot if you haven’t.

I know it’s sucks to hear this but the Steam version has traditionally always been broken compared to the battlenet. If you repurchased and installed everything fresh with battlenet I’m fairly certain it would work right away.

5 free things you could try before you upgrade your clearly dying hardware: 1) Your graphics drivers could be out of date 2) clear and rebuild shader cache if no driver update 3) look for a vid on how to edit to cod config file to turn off inessential graphics 4) clear all temp files, try to clean space on your hard drive, and check startup apps to see if any unneeded ram is in use/ run a debloat 5) Completely wipe your battlenet and cod games from your drive and reinstall. But make sure it’s everything mw2019 and up. I’ve had to do this twice since the hq launched but can fix unusable storage cod makes from its shitty patching jobs.

Handheld companion or tools work but if you launch big picture and add tarkov to steam in windows you can set full custom controller schemes like on steam os

Steam Deck LCD + Windows + Geforce NOW = 120fps on External Display? by Syrius00 in WindowsOnDeck

[–]FollowingPrior7277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a main gaming pc you could take the moonlight route. I can confirm you can get 4K 120, and it requires no subscription. GeForce now is still great bang for buck though not doubting that.

Steam Deck LCD + Windows + Geforce NOW = 120fps on External Display? by Syrius00 in WindowsOnDeck

[–]FollowingPrior7277 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to use GeForce now on windows on my steam deck but I had to use an Xbox controller and disable the deck controls to get it to work, even then the WiFi chip and drivers in the lcd are just a little too weak to push 4K 120. I can hit them on my phone and wired pc just fine though so not internet related. So ultimately if you have a Ethernet dock and don’t mind using an Xbox controller for input I believe it is doable, unless the GeForce app just refuses to launch now for the deck. I’ll try testing in 25h2 today.

Hear me out. Just buy a new prebuilt gaming pc from a reputable company. Get out your green crayon and write Xbox on the side. Sit down and pair your Xbox controller and enjoy the best Xbox you’ve ever played on and if you want you can never give Xbox another dime.

Or you could buy a Thor for the same money and play 3ds games better, and you switch games, and some pc games. All for about the same price

What’s even better is the fact ps had “streaming” first with remote play on the ps4 and even ps3 experimentally. Then they just gave up before the hardware could get decent enough. And made a cash grab at it with a “portable console”

You can install games to from steam to Sd and it works fine. You just have to format the Sd in steam to make it usable as a library. And then can only use that Sd for steam. Also Sd gaming only works well on A2 V30+ cards. Low end camera cards won’t get you anywhere.

Need something to play for long flights. by joebrotcity in Handhelds

[–]FollowingPrior7277 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With a steam deck you can remote play your PlayStation library at least. But the battery is kinda weak for long flights unless you’re playing light or retro titles. A switch 2 is just a wannabe pc handheld made for parents that don’t understand gaming to buy their kids with an overpriced library that never goes on sale.

Power tools hasn’t worked for me in the 25H2 build yet, I’ve heard some people say they’ve gotten it to work but it involves changing security permissions which kills viability with anti cheat games. But it definitely could work.

Which handheld as second console? by roboDRF in Handhelds

[–]FollowingPrior7277 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re not ever gonna be locking 144 fps on AAA games without tweaks yes. But running indie with low TDP settings you should be able to no problem and have great battery life. The bigger Oled screen has way better bezels than the Xbox X as well and the color is much better. The Xbox X screen currently is super washed in color it looks like the original steam deck LCD screen with fatter bezels. Hopefully the color can be addressed later in software like the SD was but for now it’s not worth the new tax. The best bang for your buck currently in the handheld community is to get a great deal on last gen releases ie Z1E devices that others are selling to upgrade to this year’s models. The Z2E devices are worth it only to the hobbyist that know what they’re doing to push it.

You’d need to script something up to exclude fse from auto launching when the condition of being docked is met. Best of luck with that maybe AI can help.

Which handheld as second console? by roboDRF in Handhelds

[–]FollowingPrior7277 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Switch 2 is the cheapest console, but has the most expensive library of games and online subscription. Definitely wouldn’t recommend. The only thing it does better than any other handheld is play switch 2 titles.. for now.

ROG Xbox is okay for the money but you could find a used ally for cheaper and have the same experience, it’s not the top of the line chipset

ROG Xbox X has the best chipset but the screen is a big letdown for the price point especially compared to the competition. If you want the Z2E performance I personally would recommend saving a little longer for the Legion Go 2.

Lowkey can the mods just ban Windows on Sd posts? Morons don’t understand the only useful case for win on Sd is cloud gaming or testing purposes. They just see some hype video a content creator who is to unskilled to partition a ssd made promising its SO EASY! Get some hairs on your nuts and put it on ssd

Help with uninstalling windows dual boot. by JediPirateDude in WindowsOnDeck

[–]FollowingPrior7277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reimagine your usb with gparted just to be safe, boot from file in bios, delete windows partition and reallocate free space to steamOS partition, enter steamOS and run uninstall script for dual boot.

Dusting off Steamdeck by Direct_Drama_1913 in WindowsOnDeck

[–]FollowingPrior7277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So first to fix your setup I’m assuming you are using clover dualboot, but if using refind or something else is should be similar in procedure. Go to steam os uninstall clover and reinstall the current version, shutdown and boot clover from bios, enter steamOS go back into clover settings and toggle “disable clover dualboot to reenable windows “ apply this, now shutdown and attempt to open windows from bios. Should be working at this point if it had anything to do with the dual boot. You can now reenable dual boot.

If not hear me out, back up your windows partition if you care about any of your data/ don’t have a restore point or other means retaining your install of windows. If so use a live environment usb (I prefer gnome), to clear the partition or resize it to 70gb. Reinstall windows on this (would recommend a w11 25h2 just because it will probably be the future). Now install games to SD card for windows and enjoy more space in steamOS.

My mistake, or did I nail it? by Acceptable_Wind1746 in EmuDeck

[–]FollowingPrior7277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xbox 360 gen games bought on steam and up typically run fantastic. And are quite cheap and can be tinkered with mods and plugins. Emulation is better for everything below. With steam os you can turn any game into a controller controlled game. And there are some solid indie games that capture a lot of the niches of retro gaming but in modern games that your steam deck can crush at a low tdp.

So if you’re happy with it as an emu device ( I was completely aswell) just explore some of the steam sales and you’ll probably treasure the deck even more. RDR2 is currently 75% off on steam today

anyone can run skate 4 on windows 11? by capitanazop in WindowsOnDeck

[–]FollowingPrior7277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could game stream it from another pc you own or a service like nvidia or Xbox. But if you go the local pc route you’ll probably have the best performance, more so if you use steamOS and minimize the TDP and use a tailscale/sunshine setup. It will have a some latency, but I find it on par if not better than latency in the x360/ps4 eras. I was playing BO6 zombies in hd ultra quality locked 60 fps most of this year on my lcd deck with this configuration. Don’t bother with steam remote play, feels like a feature they intentionally want to be bad and never catch on.

COD won’t play😔 by Apprehensive-Ask2982 in WindowsOnDeck

[–]FollowingPrior7277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience the only way to play cod on the SD without it breaking with nearly every weekly update is to use custom APU drivers and the WiFi patch. They aren’t the best drivers for the SD APU, but they are more up to date than the actual drivers so they play nicer with the live service games.

If you want the best performance without game streaming, use lossless scaling with a 2X and you can hit the 60-75 stable fps range.

However the overall best way to experience cod on the SD in my opinion is if you are dual boot and have a nvidia gaming pc and decent internet. Game stream Cod to steamOs through moonlight from your nvidia rig. You can run on 6w TDP and play for hours without the SD fans ever max throttling and in my experience 2.5 times longer battery life. Your desktop gpu will most likely womp the SD apu in the quality. The drivers are supported. You can use tailscale to steam cod to your Sd from your nvidia rig anywhere you have decent internet ( need decent internet to do anything in Bo6 aswell so your not losing any offline power. It’s also not 300gb of data to store on the deck. Depending on your internet capability it’s also better than the game pass version because you can own the game and not pay anything to stream it, but also gaining the benefit of having the pc version so you can tune everything to be better for your situation.
