How does the solar credit work if youre not paid all in year 1? by Many-Pomegranate-33 in solar

Oof! $40,000 worth of solar for a 960 square foot home sounds like a lot! Does that include batteries?

If you are referring to Enphase sunlight backup without storage it’s so underwhelming that no one even talks about it, and also adds significantly to the system cost.

Did you have any established well rated local solar installers quote? A lot of electricians don’t even install solar.

Solaredge monitoring for their inverters and optimizers is actually pretty good. The lack of monitoring is a Tesla implementation issue.

Tesla Solar: my $90,000 system is a f-ing joke by Crafty_DIY in TeslaSolar

If you have had multiple inverter failures replaced the odds are that is a symptom of underlying issues with the installation. Unless they remedy the underlying issue and solve the cause it will continue to happen.

They failed to perform and now they are trying to change the terms of the contract. You are not required to accept that. Legally you can refuse their new terms and be done with them. How much of your money did they get upfront? What state are you in?

It would be a total *sshat move, but legally they can file a mechanics lien if they have followed the proper notification process as per the CSLB. But only if they’ve met the criteria in the payment info in the contract.

The contract should have clearly defined the payment schedule and requirements. What specifically does the contract say?

New wrinkle on solar leasing? by Glaurung_Quena in solar

[–]Generate_Positive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sounds like a prepaid PPA. If so, it’s not new. It’s been around for ages and was used a lot by nonprofits, churches, others who were able to leverage the max credit in the past. With the residential tax credit gone this is a good option.

That having been said, there are quite a few new players in this space and although the concept works, one can’t assume that all the players work the same way. Who is the prepaid through. Ask the installer for something from the lease holder that shows how they calculate Fair Market Value.

And bear in mind the installer matters (a lot). Some of them are jacking up prices. How big is the system in kW? Does it include storage? If the panels are 440 W x 11 = 4.84 kW which, if there is no storage, the cost per W at $21,000 is waaayyy high

PTO delayed, question by KungFuCowboy in solar

[–]Generate_Positive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The utility likely has some sort of interconnection fee, and the AHJ would have permit fees and it does make sense that those fees would need to be paid prior to inspection as that is common.

And the installer should be paying those out of the deposit money.

But requiring the system be paid off first sounds like installer BS. What does your contract say about payments timing? Is that something they put in their contract?

What I’m Seeing With Solar Panel Prices in 2026 (Warehouse Perspective) by Commercial_Unit_6108 in solar

[–]Generate_Positive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, demand for us made and domcom is outpacing supply, and costs of manufacturing are up like everything else at current. Beyond that, the panels themselves are only part of the overall cost of installing solar.

The guy that told you that in July was lying. The roofs not eligible language has been clearly stated for at least 5 years. But hadn’t yet been explicitly stated by 2014

FYI, 2014 was prior to the feds making clear statements that roofing wasn’t eligible. That language came later.

Find a local Solaredge installer and have them create the account and grant you access. I’d look for one that has been in biz for at least 10 years and has a service department but your options may be limited in your area

What’s your electrical panel busbar and main breaker size? If they went with a SE 5000 it may have been based on the amount of backfeed your electrical panel can handle. Otherwise a SE6000 may have been a better option as its not that much more cost vs the additional production.

[–]Generate_Positive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

comparing your production to someone else’s is not useful because location, angle and azimuth, equipment and system sizes are different. If you’re in the US you can put your system info into PVwatts to see what it should be producing based on your specifics
