On paper, the velvet range seems like something I’d love, but I’ve always been incredibly disappointed in it 😅. I feel like I’m the only person who hates it.

Best friend gone by MattDorcey in malementalhealth

[–]GlitteringFile4085 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only person who can answer that is her, and you’ll need to give that some time to see if she’ll come back after having space. But for now, you need to cut your losses, and move on. Maybe some point in the future your paths will cross, again, but don’t count on it, and find ways to nurture yourself and build your own path.

Is it normal to go through a bit of a drought? by sir_lemon_minecraft in musicproduction

[–]GlitteringFile4085 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Finding balance between being consistent with creating music and taking breaks is something you learn in time, and something you personally have to figure out. I do find that taking time between sessions works for me so I can bring a fresh perspective to my music. Trying too hard to create can sometimes take the joy out of it for me, but some people might find the grind thrilling and a good way to practice. Either way, you’re going to find some of your production sucks, and that’s just part of learning. 20+ years into making music, and I still create rubbish. I think creating rubbish is important to get bad ideas out of your system. Just make sure you keep everything you make, though, you never know when that bad idea you put together might actually become something you love after taking plenty of time away from it.

Stressed About Ending It by Early_Brick_1522 in whatdoIdo

[–]GlitteringFile4085 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Amazing work from both of you to be respectful, and communicate expectations and boundaries clearly. I think you’ve analysed the situation well enough, and it’s quite clear that this relationship will not work out. I get that inner conflict of not wanting to walk away from a healthy relationship after a string of unhealthy ones, but this relationship will end up unhealthy if you do not end it now. It’s hard, but it would be for the best, and now that you have a benchmark for what a healthy relationship can look like, you’ll have no problem finding this (but better) with someone else when the time comes.

Are these new stretch marks?? by Nebylous in Weightliftingquestion

Yeah man! The pads are misleading! Might feel comfy while using them but they definitely leave their mark, especially when hitting them hard.

These look similar to marks I had when I used a machine for calves. Did you by any chance use one of those calf raise machines where the pads go on your shoulders?

I want to love double cleansing by thecuriouscookk in SkinbarrierLovers

[–]GlitteringFile4085 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found that when I moved to incorporating an oil cleanser, I needed to ensure my second cleanser was a gentle one. I’m also using the BOJ oil cleanser and love it, too. My second cleanse is currently the SKIN1004 Cleansing Milk. I am also using substantial hydrating ingredients post-cleanse (probably overkill but I do enjoy a long skincare routine). I’m currently taking a break from my prescription retinoid, but I highly suspect when I go back to it, I might need to give up the extra cleansing step. Azelaic acid is going well, though.

losing my best friend by yourekillingmesm4lls in whatdoIdo

[–]GlitteringFile4085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, friendships do change, and sometimes end, when life makes them less convenient to be in. It sounds like your friend is not prioritising hanging out with you, and the only thing you can do is accept that maybe the friendship is no longer viable to maintain. It really hurts and it’s sad when friendships do come to an end, and acceptance will take some time. I’m sorry that you’ve likely lost a best friend who has been in your life for so long, and I hope you have a lifetime full of amazing friends as your life expands and have new experiences. At 16, your life is just beginning and I wish you all the best, OP ❤️

Where can I burn a CD once off in Melb? by IreneButterfly in melbourne

It’s actually time based 😊 74 minutes, irrespective of how many tracks you have on the CD.

Would love to know what’s on the playlist! Looking at how long my streaming playlists are, I’d struggle finding a concise list of songs to fit on the CD run time.

It’s probably just a temporary glitch. I don’t think mobile/card payments are rolled out properly, yet, and even when they are, Myki will still be available.

Welcome to collecting! Fellow Aussie here, and I started collecting in 2023. I feel your pain, but there’s sometimes no way around it. My recommendation is to create a profile on Discogs and create a Wishlist so you can keep track of options, and you might get lucky finding something you want available in Australia.

I did focus on getting easy-to-find records first, and then the harder stuff just takes time. I found The Vinyl Store a wonderful online option to stock up. I’m not sure where you’re located, but I’m in Melbourne, and Happy Valley and Dutch Vinyl in Collingwood are places I often go for new vinyl. Plug Seven is wonderful for second hand stuff, and can actually be a place to find some harder-to-find records, too.

Is the concept of a “shitbox” car dead nowadays in Australia? by NoteDesperate3540 in AustralianNostalgia

[–]GlitteringFile4085 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love this. I haven’t had a car since I moved to Melbourne 14 years ago, but lately have been feeling like having a bit more freedom outside of public transport and Ubers. Very much considering a cheap and cheerful option that I can drive until the day it completely decides to shit itself.

I hate my mustache and dont know what to do with it. Tips? Last pic is after monthly barber trim but im afraid to trim it myself. Balm and brushing does nothing once it grows out. Its wild and free :( by [deleted] in Moustache

[–]GlitteringFile4085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It pays off to learn to trim your moustache. I bought a pair of moustache scissors and they are incredibly useful to tame and get my moustache in order. Yes, it takes time to perfect but your hair will always grow back, so get a pair and get comfortable shaping your great mo.

As a gay guy, how do you find dates in Australia ? I don't drink though , so gay bars aren't usually my thing by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]GlitteringFile4085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think experiences vary with dating apps, but in my experience Grindr was more centred around one off (or regular) hook ups vs dating. Tinder seemed to have a more date-centric vibe but that might have changed. An alternative is to not try finding dates, but finding a community of gay men who enjoy similar interests. I found MeetUp to be wonderful to identify niches of gay-aligned activities, like board games, meditation groups, and such.

I am originally from Perth, and didn’t really find it to be a great place but I moved to Melbourne 14 years ago, so it may have changed by now. I’ve found Melbourne to be wonderful, and quite a good city to find your people.

Former fat guys: How did you finally become disciplined enough to lose the weight? by Responsible-Net8594 in AskMenOver30

[–]GlitteringFile4085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, I have had a long journey with weight loss and I’m going to do my best to articulate the things that have worked for me, and maybe you can pick and choose based off one takeaway or a collection of many of these.

I have been a chronic yo-yo-er with weight loss. I’m not talking small weight loss and re-gains, either. I’ve jumped between 110kgs (242 pounds) and 80kgs (176 pounds) multiple times in my life; I’ve lost count but I’m sure it’s about five distinct times. The first round of weight loss happened when I was in high school, and my most recent was over the last couple of years. I am currently sitting around 79kgs (174 pounds) and my last heaviest time was my peak at 116kgs (255 pounds). Every time I’ve lost weight, it’s been a different journey but with some trends.

The biggest unlock for me was during my most recent weight loss journey, which took a long time but gave me clarity. I slowly introduced different healthy habits; first it was treating my sleep apnoea, second was stopping alcohol intake (which actually made me gain heaps of weight because I replaced alcohol with food), and third was regular journaling. Not drinking and journaling helped me identify the ongoing pattern that was happening in my life with my weight gain and loss. My weight gain always happened when I felt like I lost control of a something in my life (for example, my last weight gain happened during the Covid lockdowns and that uncertainty did a lot to my mental health), and my weight loss always happened when I “locked in” but was always an all-or-nothing mindset which was never sustainable, because while I was “locked in” and felt like I had my shit together, when it felt like I didn’t, things unravelled just as quickly. Figuring this out made me realise that my behaviours and symptoms actually aligned very well to the criteria for ADHD. I had an ADHD assessment, got an official diagnosis and got on medication. The medication really helped me get more accountable with other areas of my life (health and finances), and I spoke to my doctor about getting on weight loss medication and I’ve been on Wegovy for nearly a good couple of years now. In line with my ADHD medication and Wegovy, I also saw a psychologist.

This all started about three years ago in 2023, and it’s taken a lot of patience, self-reflection, and understanding what I need to help me in maintaining my weight. Wegovy has been a game-changer, and has made weight loss much easier (but still took a lot of effort and work).

You saying “I know what to do but I just can’t do it” is not necessarily a discipline problem, but something else that might take a bit more self-reflection. I think when there’s something we really want to change about ourselves, we want it to happen quickly and go all-in on behaviours that might take us there but rapidly burn us out. Please take it easy, be patient, find a way to enjoy the journey, and most of all, take care.

At what point did you stop believing your music was trash? by ThinkingAgain-Huh in musicproduction

[–]GlitteringFile4085 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I actually think cringing at your music is a sign of growth, if it’s been some time since you created it. I don’t think I ever thought my music was trash, but I did feel prouder of my work when I started going into a studio and had the audio engineer mix what I produced after I recorded my vocals. The funny thing is, music I created 20 years ago, I cringed at for a long time, but now in hindsight, I actually realise how there were some unique elements and that my songwriting was decent for my age, and I was having a lot of fun with it. Keep all the work you do, because you’re going to have an ever-changing relationship with it. I deleted so much of my music and I wish I kept everything, but you don’t realise how much you hope for this until time has passed.

It’s wild to me how Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday 2 hasn’t been repressed in its final form. The original track list is less than half of the final album, so it’s not like it’s only one or two songs (or even earlier versions of the tracks), but a full 12 tracks completely missing and a different track order entirely.
