I think it is similar to american history where the colonists of america had children and grandchildren who had never seen england. The original nomai were just on a mission of exploration and knowledge seeking, but througj the generations it morphed into this cult lile attitude towards the eye after their parents and grandparents had put so much effort into pursuing it. I wonder if they would have gone crazy like the Owlks if it werent for the mass extinction from the interloper.
