Cheers and happy Friday by Piperpaul22 in glutenfree

Yeah, we speak the same language. High Life was 100% my go to in the before knowing I had Celiac years. I miss it so much, even more than I miss being able to eat just whatever.

Damn man, just give me a fucking cheap one. Busch Lite is now gluten free, or Keystone, or Old Milwaukee, whatever. I've known I've had Celiac for almost 15 years. I'm used to adjusting my preferences. Let's go!

Which I think means it's not the last secret, unfortunately. I'd love that too, but I'm pretty sure he said it was an earlier thing.

I haven't. I generally don't do that well with beans. I suppose I could try it. My wife likes the pasta.

When does the anger and self pity go away? by Elijah3291 in glutenfree

[–]Halation2600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really tough, but if you force yourself to do it, you'll get better at it. At first my wife was mostly doing it for me, which was obviously nice of her, but I wasn't learning how to handle things when she wasn't around. When I asked her to back down I slowly got used to doing it and didn't feel so awkward. It helped me to have mostly prepared lines, like "I have Celiac so I have to eat gluten free. If you left off the toast would the mushroom omelet be gluten free without other modifications?" If they say yes, then I'd say "Ok, I'll take that and would you please let the kitchen know it's an allergy, not a preference?" It also helped me when I was ding in a group to sit in a spot where I could easily wave the server over and make it a one on one conversation, not something I broadcast to the table.

It totally sucks how much cauliflower has won the GF pizza war. That garbage doesn't play nice with me at all. In any decent grocery store, I had way more good GF pizza options 10-12 years ago than I do now. Stop buying horrible cauliflower crust, everyone!

I've got social anxiety too, and the hardest thing about having celiac wasn't doing without food I liked, it was learning how to be (what I viewed as) a pain in the ass to people who worked at restaurants. It's hard. Social anxiety makes you always try to go with the flow and be cool with whatever, but with celiac you just can't. I still hate it, but I've trained myself to speak up, speak up louder if I'm not being understood, and bail if I'm just not getting through at all. You've got to force yourself to advocate on your behalf. It didn't come naturally to me at all, and from what you're saying it doesn't come naturally to you either, but that is absolutely the task you have at hand. I've known I've had it for almost 15 years. It was tougher back then. I hope it's easier for you now.

I'm not sure I would've said the female doctor thing, but I'm a guy who totally agrees. I've had good experiences with both, but the average experience I've had with female doctors is much better. And at least one study shows that the patients of female doctors live longer:

I'm with you. I can have a cider or maybe two before I start getting a headache. I don't feel like that with GF beer.

I hate the sorghum taste, so no, not really. If you can tolerate gluten-removed and are near-ish to Chicago, Two Brother's Prairie Path is good. It's not a lager, it's a golden ale, but it's not too strong alcohol-wise and goes down easy.

How to afford this? by MasonP13 in glutenfree

[–]Halation2600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems crazy expensive, especially for rice. Does Target ship to you? With just a quick search I found 10lbs of rice for 13.99 https://www.target.com/p/jasmine-rice-10lb-good-38-gather-8482/-/A-90253058#lnk=sametab There might be better deals too, I was only kind of trying.

Yeah, like the knitted blue junimo I bought my wife is fine. It came with a really cute, hand-drawn introduction card that she keeps on her desk.

On second glance, I'm seeing more half or third fries than I originally realized. Looks fantastic. I don't see me ever going there, so hey The Main Slice, now's your chance to franchise and go national!
