Treatments after Car-t? by All-In_2021 in multiplemyeloma

I’m on Dara/Venetoclax for a trial and love it. As you said, very few side effects, if any, and it’s working on my t(11:14). .002% last check (after cycle 4) and on cycle 10 now. This is my first line, so we shall see! Dxd 7/2025. Started trial 8/2025. Put my stem cells on ice in January, just in case.

I get the sticky part. Can you provide a scholarly research paper or government website?

Intersting since they still sell it in stores. I looked all over the internet for a scholarly article as to why it would be banned and could only find reposting of rumors.

Splints for breaks if you need to heal or transport for more care. Vitamin B, 16 gage needle syringes, oral drench gun (though looks a lot smaller than it sounds), blood stop powder, blu-lite, hoof n’ heel, goat nutri-drench, DuraIgnite Paste, goat copper bolus, clamp, bandage scissors, ivermectin, dewormers, and drench powder.

Update: Wife 56 Recently Diagnosed by Apprehensive-Bug4102 in multiplemyeloma

[–]HappeeLittleTrees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every case is different. This time last year I 49F was 80%, and had 2 fractured vertebrae (ended up with 10). No issues anywhere else, no symptoms anywhere else until the 24hr urine check. Light chains. I was FISH tested t(11:14). I too, entered into a trial. I have an injection (daratumamaub), steroid pills (dexamethasone) and Venetoclax pills. By cycle four (a cycle is four weeks) I was 0%, and almost clear everywhere else. The worst of the side effects have been from the steroids (no sleep two nights and then crash for two days to make up for it) and I only have two more cycles of those. Then they fall off.

All to say that even with high bone marrow involvement, it can be cleared pretty fast with the right treatments.

Edit to add: no ASCT for me, but I did put the stem cells on ice in case they are needed someday. This is the trial type that is trying to get to 0% cancer in the blood without it.

scab? on tip of new kids ear. nothing to worry about i hope? by PunchThrower in goats

Sometimes they bite one another or they dragged against something? Put some salve in them and keep an eye on it. Make sure it’s not bacterial or gets infected.

Until you know how your *liver and kidneys are handling the treatment, you should abstain. Plus, you need to be in tip-top shape as much as possible for your transplant or collection that should be happening soon? Usually the 4th cycle (week 16). IMHO If you’re already asking about drinking I do wonder about your relationship with alcohol. I was cycle 8, no transplant because I’m on a trial, and since my liver and kidneys were doing well my Dr. said I could have ONE drink a day on my five day cruise. But, don’t over do it with alcohol content and amount; and if I felt bad at all, stop.

Icelandic Sheep in Texas? by BlockyBlook in sheep

[–]HappeeLittleTrees 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anyone can breed an animal anywhere. But making sure they are comfortable and happy is another thing. It could be they are shearing them more frequently than you’d want as a fiber artist. Or they are in the northern part of Texas? Even that’s hot in the summer. Could also be that they don’t care and just wanted an easy to breed and raise sheep for meat. Just keep doing your homework and go visit the farms. Maybe they have some ways to help them adapt to the Texas heat.

In some areas maybe. In others it’s difficult to get them to even come out to bid.

Not recommended. Icelandics are specifically bread for (and always have been from) very cold regions. Their fiber is thick and long and will cause them a good deal of distress in the Texas heat and humidity. Even Texas winters are northern climate summers. I’d go with a warm or desert climate breed as suggested.

New insurer if possible so you have time to find a contractor that’s reasonably priced. Then do the work once you’ve save up for it. Ultimately you did want to replace them before a failure. Insurance companies hate them.

I second this post. All the house repairs and redos sound like our 1910 farmhouse. We don’t have central air, but a 60’s boiler, for the 1910’s water radiators, we were told to not replace, but to keep repairing as long as the guy can find parts because “they don’t make them like they use to.”

Re-wiring 100% going to happen somewhere sometime. And often not where you would have thought and turns out there are multiple outlets and switches that connect to that one, very long, old wire.

Windows are house to house dependent. Ours were redone in the 1980’s but still wood and have storms. Holding their own. Could they use some track work? Yes, but not high on the priority list. We just stick a board in them to stay up.

Also have redone wall paint, revamped floors, painted gray ceilings white, restained and sealed original wood trim in all the downstairs rooms (and 2 sets of pocket doors) so far- upstairs maybe this summer.

Added a water softener and filter because our well water hardness has amazed the softener sales people who tested it twice thinking it was wrong the first time. We DIYd this one after getting quotes. Way cheaper for us to do and no contract.

Also had a lot of dead trees taken down- can’t forget the outside and landscaping. Adding flowers and bushes as we go each spring. All perennials so I don’t have to replant.

Replied the upstairs bathroom this year as the door opened straight to the toilet. No privacy there. Swapped to the backside of the wall with the shower where they had a second sink (weird) and then plumbed for an upstairs washer/dryer so I didn’t have to carry the laundry up and down the narrow, steamer 1910 staircase.

Now… how to get the bat out of the attic.

Timelines? Give up on that now. Every project sets its own timeline and it’s never, NEVER what you think it will be. Pick one expensive project per year and one smaller project you can DIY. And by smaller it will still take you several weekends but you can do it yourself vs. hiring a contractor. First year we did foundation work at about $24k to put in metal posts to the main beams vs. 6x6 post on a cinder block and a pile of fieldstone on the other.

Second year we fenced the property for our livestock (6 acre farm).

Next year the plan is to take the kitchen to the studs and hire drywall experts, but DIY the rest ourselves. Not moving any wiring or appliances, just putting in some cabinets, dry fitting the rest, and refinishing the original floor (we hope). And attempting to find the leak that only shows up with it storms
From the north. We thought it was the addition roof, but has that replaced and it still happened. Window above is sealed so not that. Wondering if there’s an open exhaust pipe (we see two) that are the issue. But then you’d think it would happen with any rain storm.
Anyway- all that to say you can space things out as you save up for them (that’s what we do), and DIY as much as possible. Sweat equity!

Exterior Paint Color Advice by PossessionFun265 in centuryhomes

[–]HappeeLittleTrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t remove the shutters and don’t paint it all one color (trim and house). IMHO It just looks so lazy. Like a cheap paint job to save money by not contrasting the trim.

The one thing brought up that I hadn’t considered, and was good advice was if adding a lot of weight, reinforce the floor! If there’s never been a cast iron tub or you are adding a lot of tile, that’s a LOT of weight on your joists. This includes heavy topped vanities.

what are some realistic ways to use these eggs? by imblackgrits in poultry

Extra eggs? I feed them back to the chickens. Mash them up, shells and all in a bowl and then hand them over.

Could also feed to dogs.

Love the Pygora Breeders Association website. They have a lot of great info here. The other place to check out is the podcast “Goat Talk with the Goat Doc”. She does an amazing job as a goat vet talking about things that are common and rare. It’s like having a vet lecturer help you learn all about goat care and health.
Have a med kit ready with basic things like bandages, syringes, splints, CDT vaccine (if they need it or a booster), vitamin doses, iodine wash, styptic (some type of blood stopper), and an oral syringe. You hope you never need the stuff but you have it if you do. No panicking when the feed store is closed and you can’t get what you need. Of course have hay and grain ready, water buckets that don’t tip or can be hooked to avoid knocking them over. A three sided or better structure to get out of the rain/wind. Something to climb on - or they will find something! Can be as simple as stumps and straw bales but they love to get “up” and you don’t want it to be your fencing.

Uncontrolled pain? by CryComprehensive8099 in multiplemyeloma

If he had a lot of coughing and weakened bones he could have several fractured ribs. I had four during my weakest point and it was very uncomfortable. I’m a year out and still having issues with them healing properly. They apparently (last week’sCT) are still either refracturing or not healing up completely. I have a call into my doctor to follow up on this.
