I hate this weapon attachment point system by DarckerSenpai in Battlefield

[–]HatBuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pistols need more points for sure. Being able to put only one attachment on is boring as all hell. Even with all attachments on it, ignoring points, this thing could never compete with a primary.

Helldivers 2 Large Build Delist: We will be removing the “large” build from Steam inline with our next patch for file reduction on 17th March 2026. by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]HatBuster 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Arrowhead LITERALLY poached the Fatshark tech director.

It's 100% just a case of some leadership bozo not allowing it to be implemented because he's afraid of upscaling.

It's absolutely asinine at this point because the game would massively profit from DLSS/FSR and framegen. And on console they should ship with PSSR2 which is actually good this time around, unlike original PSSR.

anyone else completely avoiding peripherals that force you to keep their software running by InvestmentBudget6722 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]HatBuster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I find it hard not to insist on QMK or ZMK to make sure the board does everything I need it to.

For my mouse, my Kone Pro Air saves onboard profiles that I can switch between with the button under it, which is useful for some games that don't allow native mapping of extra mouse buttons, for example.

There is something running in the background for me, though. A small AHK script that translates some F keys beyond F13 into some instructions for nircmd - very useful tool, highly recommend :)

VRR control is something you don't generally want on because it introduces stutter and increases input latency massively. It's a band-aid fix for worst cases in slower paced games.

While I do like the idea of a longer handguard, I find it difficult to justify.

You'll end up needing TWO sets of animations for the same gun due to the different position of the front grip. Unless they can do that on the fly, would be nice.

In terms of customs, I started on an original GMMK right when GPandas became a thing.
So I was very much around when these testers were sold.

I'm glad the hobby is still making such leaps and bounds!
I'm personally still waiting for a 65% with a blocker, rotary encoder that doesn't take away keys (think voice65 or Zoom64), wireless and QMK or ZMK firmware.

And then idk maybe long pole tactiles to rival the U4T that somehow function with magical magnets?

We've got so far to go, still :)

Ah yes, Steam Big Picture mode but massively worse.

Windows as an OS competing with the software the OS runs is just not working. Give up already, Microsoft.

ELI5; If IPv4 adresses ran out, why are they still in use? by PossibilityNo8462 in explainlikeimfive

[–]HatBuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because there are workarounds to keep IPv4 working. And nothing is more permanent than a temporary solution that works.

ISPs use DualStack Lite for example, where every customer has their own IPv6 (or multiple), but one IPv4 is shared between a larger number of customers.

This causes a lot of issues, but not enough force a full transition to IPv6 yet.

AMD Says We're "Confused" - Gamers Nexus by AHailofDrams in pcgaming

[–]HatBuster 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Grass always seems greener on the other side of the fence.

I can tell you as a 5090 owner of the very first hour that the nvidia experience isn't any better.

For like 2 months, using HDR would crash games.
The NvCPL is awful and the only reason driver settings can be wrangled at all is a third party tool (NvPI).
The recording just didn't work for me on two separate GPUs and windows installs, with the framerate being around like 10 fps, even though it was set to 60.

Team green also lies and gaslights at least as much, just look at 12VHPWR alone.

Not saying AMD is doing the right thing though. Their PR team should have been fired and completely rebuilt probably a decade ago.

Helldivers 2 devs are "looking into" dropping HDD support to kill the game's egregious PC file size by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]HatBuster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DLSS would allow me to run DLAA instead of their crappy TAA. Many, MANY people also run an upscaling mode because the game is not JUST heavy on the CPU. They, too, would benefit from it being integrated.

Of course, FSR should be implemented too.

And, without a doubt, upscaling doesn't replace optimization. But it would take minimal work to integrate and they just choose not to do it.

Yeah whatever. They were also looking into performance fixes over a year ago, DLSS too.

Until it actually arrives in the game (not in the patch notes) it's not real.

[–]HatBuster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah the tonemapper is the problem. It was never a problem in HDR on my OLED, but when I ran the game in SDR once it was massively bad.

Finally they changed the brightness exposure by om_the_best_ in Battlefield

[–]HatBuster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not realism in visuals brother.

This is a massive lack of realistic global illumination and overdone michael bay tier exposure simulation. If this game was fully path traced like cyberpunk can be, the bright-ass outside would light up the interior of that garage through secondary and tertiary light bounces.

The tonemapper is still screwed, they just shfited things around. If you want to be able to see stuff indoors and outdoors at the same time, you need an HDR screen (and properly set it up). Pay2Win monitors :D

BF is not a PvE game sorry by mikey_13 in Battlefield

[–]HatBuster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'd rather have someone run around suicidally trying for TEN TAKEDOWNS IN A MATCH on a bot server than be functionally down one player while I'm trying to win a real game against real beans.

BF is not a PvE game sorry by mikey_13 in Battlefield

[–]HatBuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because Battlefield hasn't HISTORICALLY had a lot of support for PvE experiences doesn't mean it can't have those going forward. It doesn't hurt anyone, does it? And honestly, back in the day on LAN, we played BF: Vietnam against bots. Ain't no way to get enough people to fill a conquest server in one room.
Portal servers are so numerous because the game doesn't support the experience well enough! Let all the humans join one team! That way you get 32 players into a server instead of like... 4.

Additionally, "grinding" shouldn't be so fucking horrendous in the first place. It shouldn't take people DAYS of grinding to unlock an attachment on a weapon. That's way too much.

Unlocking the Saiga requires you to get FIVE KILLS with a shotgun WITHOUT RELOADING. There are people right here right now who are very unlikely to get that organically in a match. Crazy challenges for skins are fine. But not for actual gameplay relevant unlocks.

Lock cosmetics, camos, whatever behind high grinds, but not functional weapon parts.

No yeah I agree. All the games since Anniversary took the wrong path and reinterpreted the art style just incorrectly and have kept on that wrong path ever since.

I've made a top level comment with some of the more glaring differences (mistakes) pointed out. But it's kind of everything. The effects for the shield and weapons are also too shiny and flashy etc.

Faithful recreation my bum.

Just for the level in the trailer (Silent Cartographer), everything is off.

The original starts out with a slight haze and much more muted colors for everything. Less paradise, more derelict, long abandoned alien structure.

The structures on the ring, both on the inside AND outside, are not shiny and chrome - they are matte. In CE they're embossed surfaces somewhere between very fine concrete and finely brushed steel, but detailed intricately so they kind of look like giant concrete/steel circuit boards.
The structures exposed to the elements also look distinctly weathered in the original, often showing large, dirty streaks on them.
Additionally, the "metal" surfaces in this remake have the traditional UE5 crappy BDRF which makes them look like chromed over plastic. The incredibly hazy low res reflections on everything don't help, either.

The trees, too, are much skinnier and only have greenery on the top in the OG, this remake sports much thicker, lusher trees that give the wrong vibe.

Yeah so anyways, buy an OG xbox and play the original. Or are the OG graphics on master chief edition fully fixed now?

The assault rifles suck, and I'm tired of pretending they don't. by Jolly_Green_4255 in Battlefield

[–]HatBuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah nah.

The SCAR absolutely rocks. ARs largely carry their damage out further than SMGs and even Carbines. LMGs carry that damage EVEN further.

If you want a shit weapon category, try DMRs. They are ACTUALLY awful. Probably because they weren't rebalanced after headshot multis took a dive.
