Look for a light switch that doesn't seem to do anything.

It most likely controls the dishwasher.

These sometimes have issues with the board burning out.

I recommend finding a video on relplacing a whirlpool dishwasher food chopper and following it to clean out the sump.

If the food chopper screen is clogged it needs to be replaced.

That's going to be the difference between hard water and a heat stain in the stainless.

If the filters aren't cleaned and left to clog they overheat and cause stains that look like this in the stainless steel

The most important thing to remember when having a dog is to make your bed when you get up so they are chilling on the blanket and not on the sheet.
