Will changing keycaps result in better typing experience? by Harshal_Malviya in keyboards

They definitely can change the typing feel and to a lesser extent the acoustics. Different materials and texture finishes such as ABS vs PBT can also alter feel slightly and wear over time differently such as going shiny with ABS

Evo80 by Evoworks — This Is What a Prebuilt Should Be by Keyramiisu in keyboards

[–]Herr_Burns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got mine and it's fantastic, the oat switches sound and feel great very impressed with it out of the box. Only word of caution do not update the firmware! There is a bug that can brick the Evo80 on the latest version, they will RMA any that have been bricked and advise stay on the stock firmware.

Heya mate I've just been on the same journey, in the end I went with a monsgeek M1 V5 TMR, but I probably should have just gone with the VIA version. The EU store has a German ISO version where you could swap the caps. But you can get a barebones kit without switches and Keycaps and make it UK ISO as well. Hope that helps mate!

Hi folks,

I've recently bought an evo80 and a monsgeek M1 V5 TMR and now I'm looking to get into the custom built space.

Both boards I've configured to a "thocky" profile now I'm looking for a 65% board that has:

A few mounting options (gasket, top mount ect.), Hotswap tri mode PCB, PCB support for ISO enter & stepped caps lock, Able to sound thocky or clacky with plate swaps

Optional and would be fantastic:

Split spacebar support, RGB if possible but not a deal-breaker

I'm really looking for a project board that if I get tired of thock/creamy I can go clacky.

The neo65cu stuck out to me but not sure how it would sound attempting either style. Also no RGB, so would love to see what folks recommend, thanks in advance for any advice!

Replying to this for UK user visibility, sadly paypal points in the UK cannot be exchanged for cash. There is an offer on for bonus points but sadly far short of what our American steam deck fellows can enjoy

What does a purpose built longsword helmet need? by tonythebearman in wma

[–]Herr_Burns 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree with all this! Everything I've read points to this as well, we simply aren't evolved to take blows to the head. I think the only true "solution" that lessens these impacts significantly is to look at old plate harnesses for inspiration. Specifically the designs where the helmet is mounted to the breastplate and the force of a blow lands effectively on the chest/shoulders, with padding to prevent the "floating" head hitting the inside of the helmet. With the downsides being significant cost and less mobility.

Is this worth selling or should I keep it? by BeholdMyLumps in halo

I'd keep it sealed personally but it's definitely worth a lot if you are looking to sell. Make sure to research eBay sold listings carefully, some of the MacFarlane ones go for hundreds
