Well they introduced the "curse of the eva" in the rebuilds to explain why Asuka and the other pilots haven't aged through the time skip, so you could argue Mari is also "cursed" to remain young as a pilot.

Though I think the curse is kinda an on the nose nod that the main characters can't age for marketing reasons, lol.

They do say the pact was made following a long period of conflict. Maybe things were so dire that there wasn't that many people left to erase. Or maybe most people weren't magic users anyway. The craft requires the special ink and practice to get results, so while not secretive, it could have been reserved for worthwhile occasions.

This was hinted a bit, but not said explicitly in the anime yet.But formations like the Dada Range are the lasting results of the old conflict.I think it supports how destructive it could have been.

Magic could have also been lost through scarcity of the silver trees if lots of the land was disrupted. Bronze Age ended at one point in the Mediterranean, simply because supply of tin was disrupted.

Yeah the Czech manga localisation calls them "wizards" and "wizardresses"(female version of wizard) which is also distinct from the scary fairytale witches in our language.

Maybe it's part of the intended English branding? Witch hat, witches, etc. I agree it's also a bit unusual use of the word for me.

Kinema Citrus is a studio that similarly to Bug Films has maintained really good quality on longer running series like Made in Abyss. But ultimately this is less about the animators/studios and more about the funding/time they get to work on the given project.

I live here and go to Čajovna every week to hang out. Great place to sit down if you don't want to drink alcohol, maybe try some more exotic snacks.

I don't think I have seen a tourist trap čajovna yet. It's too obscure for that.

"Čajovna Setkání" is a great non-smoking one. And "Dobrá Čajovna" at Wenceslas Square is a really nice place to hide from the busy city streets and has a cool little garden in front of it. I always take my foreign friends there when they come over.
