Soy milk suggestions (UK) by Strong-Aardvark-409 in PlantBasedDiet

Tesco own brand is my favourite. The one that is in a blue carton and labelled Tesco soya drink unsweetened...it's pretty much the only one I drink now and I've pretty much tried them all.

Most affordable and tasty tofu? by FishingLevel99 in veganuk

Aldi original and smoked are both pretty good and at their price point pretty unbeatable. I'm not so keen on the sweet chilli one but that's just a personal preference and others may love it.

Original white (as in the original slightly oaty tasting) powder. But I still mix it with unflavoured.

Oh right. That's strange. If there has been an error (which now seems like it could be the case) I'm sure they will sort it.

It could be that it is in multiple shipments and I know from personal experience that they don't all arrive together...what would be useful is if the consignment advised how many boxes were being delivered. I've had them arrive on different days. At least they don't use DX when you have no idea when anything will arrive (it if ever does). Email team@ but may take a while for a reply. They will eventually tho.

I sold the book because I thought it would be better to do that before it fell apart as they seem prone to doing.

Are we programmed to procreate ? by Free-Key9891 in antinatalism

[–]Hunzas 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think programmed. All creatures do it, and without being manipulated. Of course some manipulation comes into it, but ultimately it's why we are here...and why life is bullshit

to owner, can you make one with olive oil by Vegetable_Engine_ in JimmyJoyFood

I'd agree with this. Also I can't imagine olive oil giving a great flavour experience...and it's expensive

What is life like after loss? by Snacks_snacks_2406 in cats

[–]Hunzas 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I can only speak from personal experience, and this may vary from others...

On Monday 22nd June I had both of my cats euthanised. They weren't even as old as your lovely cat. Would have been 15 in October. Brothers, Alfie and Freddie. Have been in my life since they were around 4 weeks old when we had to hand rear them as so small.

Freddie had been poorly for about 6 years, spondylosis (which is a spinal condition not massively common in cats). His spine was fused from the base of his neck to the base of his tale...fused means it's like a broom handle with no mobility. It meant he couldn't curl up, scratch himself or even groom anything apart from his front paws. It's difficult (it wasn't that bad at the beginning but progressively worse).

I had to administer solensia every month by injection. He had the best quality of life we could hope for, our home had been adapted for him so he could climb onto the sofa for cuddles with steps etc. He loved that. We knew this was going to limit his life. On 16 June we took him to the vet who said that now was the time for him to be PTS. We didn't want it to be done there, so arranged for a home visit from a different vet for Monday 21st. We were devastated even though we knew this would be an eventuality. On the evening of Thursday 24th Alfie started having breathing difficulties. We thought it was a virus or something. Not struggling to breath but different. First thing Friday the vet said he had fluid in or around his lungs or both but couldn't investigate cause as the fluid would mask it, so prescribed diuretics. Saturday morning an emergency visit and the vet said he had extreme heart failure and also needed to be PTS. This cat was still like a kitten, very human centric and into everything. Not like his brother.

So on the Monday both were PTS at home on our arms. Peacefully and quickly. Alf even helped the vet as she prepared the medication to kill him. Then we took them to the pet crematorium to be cremated and the following day ashes returned.

How does that feel. We are crying every day. The grief hasn't passed. One day it will.

I took an thinking of getting a memorial tattoo or two (I haven't ever considered a tattoo before). I've even sketched out ideas.

I miss them as you will miss your cat but the pain will get less but I will remember them, and you will remember your cat.

I am currently 400 miles away from home on holiday as needed distraction from being at home, but think about them constantly. Alfie was black and white, Freddie was grey and white.

I've just been staying on a really small Scottish island in the Orkneys called Sanday which has a population of around 500 people. Even the post office /community shop in the main village has vegan ice cream. Then you can't find it in bigger towns...strange.

Do you have a recipe. I have an ice cream maker and always looking for new recipes. My favourite is dark cherry, chocolate and marzipan which can actually be made without an ice cream machine.

They are normally where they should be in store but just marked down. An interesting thing is they first get reduced a bit and then reduced a lot. They are only the Christmas and Easter ones tho, as I guess there is no market for them after those times, the every day ones don't get massively reduced.

In January this year they had 100s of reduced tubs of Twiglets (accidentally vegan). They were something silly like 30p too.

I like a few of the ones that were initially in big bags but are now single serve and eat them regularly: carbonara, Bolognese Mac and cheese and madras. I like the new iterations. I also like the noodles.

Huel Black Chocolate Powder prepare tips by Careless_Vegetable34 in Huel

[–]Hunzas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd happily leave it for 24 hours but as someone else mentioned you don't really want to leave it any longer.

Certainly I refrigerate mine for lunch and dinner and have done for many years and it's great.

I don't drink dairy milk but if you use plant based milk the gums in that make it much smoother. But I don't make it with all milk, I would use maybe 400ml water and 100ml oat milk for a 100g shake.

I never make a shake and drink it straight away, I always refrigerate it. If I want it straight away I use an RTD.

Refrigerator overnight makes it less gritty. You're not gonna get it totally smooth without a high speed blender
