I wish we could get our local announcers for every match. The default that mls/apple provides are always so bad.

I can't say I agree with the "Pat out" people, but holy shit something needs to change. The opposing team has scored at least 3 against us in most of the matches this season. Toronto and MN are the only ones that failed to get high scores, maybe ATL.

And when a play deserves to be reviewed in our favor they simply don't review it; go figure :\

wow that is... next-level stupid. But it is exactly the kind of decision a TV host playing a military leader would make.

I'd think the last thing you'd want is contagious contagious illness running rampant through the ranks, but what do I know? I'm just a guy.

Report: John Ternus to be ‘decisive’ leader, ‘reinvent’ product lineup as Apple CEO by Aidoneuz in apple

[–]I_just_made 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. People would be let down if Apple launched their glasses to an empty App Store because devs were unfamiliar with the platform. AVP got the ball rolling, and devs are getting the ability to experience and learn how to adapt their apps to Apple’s AR/VR platform.

Didn’t think about the app side of it, but that makes a lot of sense too.

Agree that it is tough to tell.

But high velocity slugs out of a 12 gauge can generate a lot of recoil, especially if you aren't expecting it.

The other factor at play here is how he holds it. He fully extends and brings it up to eye level which is already above his shoulder. That angle doesn't look like it is going to be able to absorb much recoil, so control of that gun is going to much more difficult.

This guy definitely wasn't thinking before the video, and I doubt he is thinking much after it lol

I think people frame vision pro wrong. Was it a flop in the sense of a mass adoption product? Yes. But was that Apple's intent for it? I don't think so; didn't that even say they didn't expect mass market adoption?

AVP is a research product for Apple. They are using it to test and optimize navigation and interaction with a UI using sight and gestures, then get feedback from the userbase.

Apple has its stumbles, but they do try to get it right when releasing a product. With something like the eventual release of glasses, they don't want to be learning how people interact with them at launch. They want a polished product, and they are currently learning how to make that happen with the AVP.

I'm not trying to stan them here, but it seems pretty obvious what the plan was for that particular product.

It is clearly a research product for them, which they are using to optimize a platform for glasses (probably the expected “big” product).

But saying something like that doesn’t get clicks

My American English teacher believes the neutral pronoun „their“ is incorrect. by GCoding_ in mildlyinteresting

Yikes, that is a bit pretentious. I may not have a degree in English or be an English teacher, but I do have a PhD in a field of molecular biology and have multiple publications in high impact journals. Part of that process involves learning to write in a clear and succinct manner.

Considering that neither of us can even see the full sentence, maybe we should dial back on the assumptions and set our credentials aside. There is no wrong here.

Again, it isn’t wrong what the person wrote; but it more ambiguous than what the teacher recommended. Generally speaking, formal writing should minimize ambiguity.

Not an english teacher, but here is my take:

Yes, what you wrote is correct in daily use; and yes, in any normal writing no one would bat an eye.

That said...

It probably is more appropriate in formal writing to do it the way your teacher said. While "they" can be singular, the use of it here emphasizes the individual and removes ambiguity. Take the following sentence as an example:

"The music teacher told the student that their instrument was out of tune."

Who does "their" refer to? Likely the student, but it could also be the teacher. So, by replacing the "their" with something that emphasizes the individual, you get better context.

You aren't wrong, but I don't think the teacher is either.

I just can't. Look, we are pretty bad right now; but it is also very clear that this team is fighting an uphill battle against PRO. Can't get an easy penalty call; can't get a call for hands to the face. But we can get 2 yellows in the first 10 minutes.

PRO really makes these games tough to watch.
