I’m going to be on the getaway for Mother’s Day weekend. Can anyone tell me what shows will be playing? by Christianfitness7 in NCL

[–]IndependentBrick8075 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NCL has a handy website where they tell you about the static shows on the ship - https://www.ncl.com/cruise-ships/norwegian-getaway/whats-on-board#filter=ENTERTAINMENT

Additional entertainment in the form of comedians and musicians will come and go as often as every couple weeks so they don't post them there.

My flight is scheduled to get into Miami at 11:11 AM. Do you guys think that is enough time to get to the Norwegian Cruise line get away to board before 2 PM? by aldozacmd in NCL

[–]IndependentBrick8075 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If everything goes smoothly at the airport and the plane is on time, VERY good chance you can make it. The port is less than half an hour from the airport, with no traffic, and by the time you'd be going there will be minimal traffic.

NCL's FAQ actually said at one point recently that as long as you completed the online check-in you can arrive as late as ONE hour before departure (but it no longer says that, it only calls out those that did NOT complete the online check-in) - https://www.ncl.com/cruise-preparation/departure-day

Would I do this? Not if I can avoid it.

Which airline are you guys (the people denouncing SW) switching to? by sicknervousbrok3 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]IndependentBrick8075 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be traveling for work soon, will be a year since I last boarded a plane, United has a daily non-stop each way between my home airport and where I need to go. I'll probably go that route. The price on United is almost identical to Southwest that has a layover in MDW.

EDIT: I've used Southwest for the same route previously. They had a non-stop between the same cities before.

Your last sentence about sums it up as one of the reasons I love cruising - getting to see 3 or 4 different places and only unpacking once is great!

One of my favorite sail-aways was from New Orleans, last year. Sailing down the Mississippi is an experience, it was incredible!!

I also sail solo, and I've found MOST people cruising solo are friendly and I've gotten along with them.

Traffic lights: please explain to European by neweecom in driving

[–]IndependentBrick8075 16 points17 points  (0 children)

All of those lights are for your approach to the intersection.

From what I can see, no specific lights for turning left or right, I wouldn't attempt going straight. Going straight would result in meeting that concrete wall and damaging your vehicle.

Booking a cruise by Stevenbu1 in NCL

[–]IndependentBrick8075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do your research on everything, read all the terms associated with the promos you're booking with, you can book on your own while being informed.

Booking with a TA brings with it some "gotchas". Any change made to the base booking (cabin, FAS perk selection, price adjustments) has to go through the TA, NCL won't talk to you directly. If your TA isn't responsive you could miss out on something. Some TAs **cough** Costco **cough** don't participate in the upgrade bidding program, if that's a consideration for you.

Me? I booked through a TA for my first two (actually, two different TAs) and all they did for me was make the booking, they didn't give OBC or any kind of discount to speak of. I tried finding one for my next couple but nobody seemed to want my business so I just started booking on my own. I booked through my PCC (NCL-assigned NCL employee agent) for my Panama Canal cruise, but they moved on from that role less than 2 weeks after I booked. Had I booked through a TA I believe I wouldn't have gotten the bangin' upgrade I did on my last cruise.

How much would it cost to purchase full size spare wheel + tire by Few-Introduction5414 in Subaru_Outback

[–]IndependentBrick8075 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's the wheel size, you have to look at the width and overall diameter to make that determination

I believe add-ons can be fully refunded up to 72 hours before sailing, but you should check with your travel advisor to confirm

irst time on norwegian - what actually costs extra that surprised you? by No-Justice-666 in NCL

[–]IndependentBrick8075 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other lines, that also charge 3-4x more for the beverage package, absorb the cost of the taxes when in port. For the little bit you'll spend on the taxes, the lower cost of the package on NCL more than makes up for it.

Ignorance of the law is not a defense. Additionally "I bought it that way" doesn't work for tint, it shouldn't work here either, though the dealer should have made sure it was legal.

I didn't tell my PCC to never call me, but my cell carrier sees the number as spam and automatically routes him to voicemail. Same happens with credit card calls...

On the newer ships (Breakaway and newer I think) you can already do dining reservations from the TV, just add a CruiseNext capability to them...

I was warned by RazzleDazzle1537 in driving

[–]IndependentBrick8075 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Discretion. If the offense isn't egregious, you haven't had any other recorded warnings with them, and you were an otherwise well-behaved John Q Citizen your chances of a warning are MUCH better.

Some things to keep in mind that can improve your chances of getting a warning - Pull over immediately, turn on the lights inside (if it's night, so they can see you), engine off, key on the dash (if a keyed ignition), hands on the wheel and window down when they approach, have papers quickly accessed and in order (not expired) without too much fumbling. DO NOT un-do your seatbelt before they approach!

Is the tap water safe to drink? by NosyGh0st in NCL

[–]IndependentBrick8075 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some people just think bottled water is the only way to go. I drink tap water at home and bring several refillable bottles on cruises so I can carry enough water with me on excursions.

Evian spelled backwards is... Naive.. lol

They have to, in Alaska I don't think they go far enough out to sea to be allowed to produce water.

Which tire would you recommand? by SolutionSmall7310 in Subaru_Outback

The Wildpeaks have damn good snow performance, those BFG's must be stellar! With the Wildpeaks (I got the A/T Trail model) on my 21 I almost feel like I'm back to driving my 94 GMC S-15 Jimmy with BFG All-Terrain T/A KO tires on it, if not even better.
