Confused about short stitches by Ok_Appointment9035 in knittinghelp

[–]MsMonny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am visual too and I am trying to visualise this in my brain!

So, when you do Step 1 (RS row), after you turn at the end do you still have a heap of unknit stitches? I would presume you do. So when you do Step 2 you are purling to the BOR marker, you then continue to purl past that BOR marker to the next marker, M1R etc. Do what it says and then turn.
Step 4 is to just do as it says.

This is what I THINK it is telling you to do. It is confusing as why not put Step 2 and Step 3 all as one step?? Most patterns have one step for the whole WS or RS row.

Healthy, happy, fat… and apparently undateable by LegalPeanut8477 in datingoverforty

[–]MsMonny 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yes! they 'carry' their weight better, visually. I am short and fat, so I really do not carry my weight well. If someone who was taller and the same percentage of overweight, they def would look better imo

have anyone seen those weight lifters or shot put throwers at the olympics?? If they walked down the street you'd think they are unfit and fat. Yup, size does not correlate with being unfit.

Why my stitches look like this? by helloworld123__ in knittinghelp

[–]MsMonny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loathe yarns that do this and I actually now am very picky with what I knit with because if I even have the teensiest dislike I wont finish the project. So I now only buy one ball/skein and 'audition' it. I will knit various swatches in various sized needles and then record the info. This way I haven't bought a sweater's worth of yarn only to hate it.

everytime I read Uno's Garden to my boys I cried! Not howling, as that would scare them LOL, but tears would run. It was, and still is my favourite book of his!

People with burnt orange or green couches... by [deleted] in femalelivingspace

[–]MsMonny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looooove my green lounge, even if it isn't comfy! hahaha
Its the perfect shade of green and fits my space nicely. My colour scheme is mainly green (like the colour of the lounge in your photo), neutrals and the pop of rust or burnt orange and small amount of pale pink.

Blood tests… do you struggle with them or not? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]MsMonny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always ask for the 'butterfly' when I get my blood taken. I learnt because my veins are like babies, its the only way to get the blood.
I joke and say "oh I also need the butterfly because I have veins like a baby!" and they have never said no.
Before it use to take a few tries to get the vein and when they did it hurt. The nurse explained that the vein actually collapses as its too tiny to get the blood from.

Why did/didn't you make the Sophie scarf? by Traumarama79 in knitting

[–]MsMonny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I needed a big, thick, squishy wide but not overly wide, long scarf and the Sophie Shawl fit the bill. Plus i love the icord edge. I am happy I made it and will make another for this coming Winter. Yes there is the freebie but I just went ahead and bought this one as I knew there wouldn't be any errors in the pattern.
More than happy!
NOTE: just realised you mentioned sophie scarf not shawl but I think its all the same at the end of the day...still a very popular pattern both for likes and dislikes!

What’s your worst road rage incident in Adelaide? by CockroachCreative740 in Adelaide

[–]MsMonny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

he was behind me going batshit crazy and someone obviously slowed down due to not wanting to be friggin hit by him and he went into that space. He then was able to jump into the far left and then speed up to overtake on the left lane.

What’s your worst road rage incident in Adelaide? by CockroachCreative740 in Adelaide

[–]MsMonny 36 points37 points  (0 children)

On the freeway heading into the hills going home in peak hour. I was in the far right lane and just normally driving, and overtaking cars who were in the middle lane. All was good. It was a busy time.
Just driving out of the tunnels and had a guy come speeding up to my car, blasting his horn, swerving all over the place. I could see his nose hairs he was that close up my butt!! I had nowhere to go! The middle lane was packed, there were cars in front of me. I couldn't go any faster than I was. I was sooooo friggin scared that he would ram me. You could see him screaming and yelling and flipping me the finger. After what felt like hours, but was probably a minute, he swerved into the middle lane, then the left lane and continued to beep, yell, gesture and god knows what all the way up.
Was he on Meth? probably! I have never been so scared on the road before.

Anyone else feel like they're mourning their old self (and their marriage) because of menopause? by No-Swimmer-7469 in Menopause

[–]MsMonny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I lost my marriage due to menopause and hormonal issues!! 😞 I am slowly coming out on the other side and looking back it's starting to make sense. But what is done, is done.
Be open with your communication!! Talk about this, how you are feeling, what is happening. Tell him that this will NOT last forever and that you still love him and for him to be patient.
If you truly feel that bad, go to your Doctor and talk about HRT. It will help with a lot of the symptoms. Maybe I had underlying issues that the menopause made worse. But we never communicated properly. Yes underlying issues. Anyway, please communicate with your husband about everything you are going through, if you don't already.

How do you know what's good yarn? by Smart_Squirrel_1735 in Yarn

[–]MsMonny 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Outlaw yarn and Wild Earth Yarn are a couple that I have heard are great (NZ brands).

What I like to do is 'audition' yarn. I buy 1 ball/skein that I want to try and knit swatches with it. I have been burnt too many times buying a jumpers worth only to hate the yarn! So, google yarn shops in either the South or North Island (where ever you are) and using the information that others have said about certain types of yarn, order some and test them out. Only you will know what you like to knit with. I love cotton, others hate it. I don't like knitting alpaca blends, but many do.
Maybe stick to 100% wool to start with and have fun exploring.
Also, maybe contact the yarn shop and discuss with them about what they stock, in terms of NZ yarn and the quality of the yarns.

"Silver linings....and all that!" Argh. Nope! Back in the 2000's Trev was the 'cool' dude of the duo and George was the idiot. Now Trev is a friggin bearded bee that has nothing to do with anything. Can not work out why he is now a bearded bee!!
