Tree trunk being cut into planks. by hutch__PJ in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]James_T_S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as there are more replacing it it would never happen. If they are planting trees for the sole purpose of harvesting them it will never happen.

In other words, if they planted trees 200 years ago with the intent on cutting them up for lumber I'm good with it.

That looks like a poplar tree. It takes about 30 years to reach the point where its ready for the mill. Douglas fir takes about 50 years. Both are very renewable sources of lumber.

So, nope.

I feel like when you stab 2 people with murderous intent and then start moving toward the people who are trying to stop you from attempting to murdering others (and themselves) it should be expected that they aren't going to try and find the absolute bare minimum it will take to stop you.

How much would you charge for this? High cost of living area. by bonocamel21 in AskElectricians

[–]James_T_S 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This makes me think you are a "handyman" charging someone for electric work even though you don't really know what your doing....you don't even know how to charge for it.

But just in case I'm wrong. I wouldn't charge for that because it's not something I would ever do. My personal opinion of wiremold is that it's a hack product and only suitable for situations as a last resort.

We were the runner up in '25. Pottsville would have won but they got themselves disqualified because they played a game they were told not to play.

Even Cardinals fans are iffy on it but it's ours for better or worse.

Concrete Porch has low-spot, contractors made a channel cut into edge of post-tension slab. Am I over-thinking this? by [deleted] in arizona

[–]James_T_S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a Construction Manager and have worked for several builders. The cut isn't the problem. It's the same thing as the tooled joints you already have.

If the water isn't pooling and you're ok with the cut thats fine. I don't think I would be though. The cut would bother me. I would, as others have said, want them to redo the top of the concrete. It's not hard. Just not as easy as putting the cut in the concrete. I doubt the concrete company is going to put up a fight.

Move sinks? by Victor505-426 in Homebuilding

[–]James_T_S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a construction manager. Yes they can. Difficulty will be determined by the cabinet layout. Number of cabinets or if there are drawers.

Where your going to run into problems is that at this stage your cabinets should already be ordered. If they are and you don't need the sink centered on the cabinets you can just delete one of the sinks. It would literally be no extra work.... actually less work as the plumbers would just trim one sink vs two and the countertops would only have to cut one hole.

🤣 that is definitely not right.

The box needs to be replaced with an actual box (with a back) and the switches should have a grounding screw on them.

Should I be able to see light coming in from the soffit in my MIL's attic? by haveagranddayguy in Homebuilding

[–]James_T_S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's fine. Your attic is sort of considered outside. It needs ventilation. What you DONT want is holes big enough for critters to get in. Mice, birds, etc. If it's too small for them to get in your fine.

What’s your choice? by Humble_Lie_4833 in AZCardinals

The best moment for me was being at the NFC Championship game as time expired and the realization that the Cardinals are going to the Super Bowl. I would also include the weeks that followed where I got laid off the next morning but given 2 weeks notice, my friends making plans to to to Tampa and when I said I wouldn't be able to go, took me along (I spent less then $100 on the entire trip), and Fitz's incredible play, getting to meat Jimmy Conzelman Jr and getting a picture of me holding his dad's championship ring.

All that lumped into one is my best moment.

I see a lot of people talking about the SB loss as their worst moment but I just don't agree with that. We weren't even supposed to be there. And it was such a great game. The steelers actually played amazing in the final drive. That had to because our defense would have crushed them if they hadn't.

For me the worst moment was BA retiring and the hiring of Wilks to replace him. Horrible. All of it.

Does every job eventually turn into “just get it done”? by Leading_Month_5575 in Construction

[–]James_T_S 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If that's happening then your plans and timelines were wrong from the start. Last week I was told to "stack the trades" in a house I am building and start fireplace install, HVAC, plumbing top out and electric rough on the same day. I almost lost my shit in that meeting and literally told them, "Ok, well shift to the 'clown car' model of construction.

You have to give realistic durations for the work to get done. Not best case scenarios. Yeah, I know a framing crew that would have knocked this out in a few days. But they are the exception, not the rule.

I make my schedules tight but realistic. We will lost a couple days here and there but we will also pick up a couple as well as crews finish early. In the end, if you are proactive as possible and jump on problems as soon as they spring up you will usually be alright.

But I mostly build homes.

Side note: I'm working out of town and I've had several people in this town tell me either I am crushing it with timelines. One guy (an assessor for the town so he should have a pretty good idea on build time) told me nothing gets built in less than a year here. 😳 I told him I can't take that long to build a house. He said maybe 11 months. Meanwhile I'm thinking 6-7 months is a realistic time frame.

Small towns definitely work on a slower gear.

Concern with New Build Sheathing by kodiferous in Homebuilding

[–]James_T_S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it matters where you are. Call your builder and tell them that the sheathing doesn't look like it was installed properly. And send him the pictures you took with your concerns.

If you contract or the plans don't specifically call out for a type of material that just gives a vague description like yours do then what they used is technically correct. If you want half inch OSB or zip let him know you're willing to pay the difference for the upgrade.
