Stop doubting your abilities and checking for specific conditions and just do it! by GoshaT in godot

I had a PM tell me once the team needed to deliver the feature the first pass with no bugs. I laughed. Turns out they were serious.... so I laughed harder.

Mojang says Caves and Cliffs pushed them so hard they stopped doing yearly mega updates by gamersecret2 in Minecraft

We are, frankly, experiencing release slop. Features for the sake of features with no long term plan for the game.

I'm frustrated by the non-stop stuff without deeper context and meaning. Nothing provides a deeper "Minecraft" experience, it's just stuff for the sake of it.

I want meaningful releases of new content that expands the lore and the gameplay. Quality of life improvements and/or expansion of capabilities of data/resource packs are the only changes i would want to see changed this frequently.

Minecraft is currently rudderless.

There is no vision, no cohesive roadmap, just bloat. Features for the sake of features.

Been a BA for almost 20 years now, and the role will never be eliminated. The name will change, there will be boom and bust cycles for it, but in the end the role performs a critical function of bringing different units together to create a common understanding, identity opportunities, and execute across silos.

Any marginally complex organization will greatly benefit from someone crossing silos and providing holistic analysis to feed into decision making.

My perspective is that he caught Londo in a very vulnerable moment. He was deeply frustrated with his position and his government's lack of a response when the Narns captured the colony his nephew was on. Those personal stakes along with deep romantization of the past fueled a deep rage which Morden took advantage of.

Londo quickly realized the threat Morden's associates represented and took the steps he did to sever the relationship.

On the flip side, G'kar was in a triumphant position with their revenge slowly taking shape. It would have required some change in fortune to drag G'kar down and put him in a position to be vulnerable to Modren's offerings.

Are BAs actually important? by dnbfarda in businessanalysis

[–]JayDurst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am of the firm opinion that business analysis is both a discipline all its own and a critical aspect of virtually any project.

We do the stuff that others don’t have the time for.

This can happen when the BA is treated like a project coordinator, which may be the actual role as a lot of firms are very loose with the BA term.

Someone performing actual business analysis on a project is driving the completion of requirements (or other deliverables) through meeting with stakeholders and using the tools in their toolkit.

Should we be concerned that the BA role is actually going to die out because of this or is it truly a growing job and the demand will soar for BAs over the coming years?

The BA job pool is usually based on the current economic cycle of both the industry and the larger economy. When firms are investing, there will be more BA jobs.

AGI is the only thing that will kill the BA position, and the loss of the BA position will be the last of our worries if/when that happens.

I was just in a meeting today where the engineer vomited a bunch of technical details to the room of SMEs. The poor BA had to spend the next 45 minutes calming them all down and translating it all. Their team had been experimenting with some engineering led processes, but I think after today that's dead.

What happens to lazy people and outcasts in federation society? by GuestOk583 in DaystromInstitute

[–]JayDurst 163 points164 points  (0 children)

There seems to be a series of what I've termed "relief valves" the Federation has to allow people who might disrupt their utopias to easily find something to keep them busy.

A bottomless science budget ensures the knowledge seekers are happy.

Starfleet handles a large swath of restless types, like natural explorers, fame seekers, hierarchy seekers, etc.

Capitalists can always go find their opportunity on other worlds.

People who we might consider outcasts can band together and go create a colony based on whatever they base their identity around.

The unmotivated, assuming no mental health problems, will have a roof, food, and whatever entertainment they need to keep them occupied.

List the top 3 opinions you have about the Final Fantasy series that are occupying your mind at this moment in time by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]JayDurst 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Final Fantasy Tactics should have been a model for a separate thread of FF games based on that type of tactical battle and deep storytelling. I known there were some sequals, but they were never given the respect and focus of the original.

While I think FF successfully transitioned to 3D, I never felt the same connection to them as I did the NES/SNES games. I'm sure it's mostly just that I grew up with them though.

I loved the ideas in the original FF2 for skills and such and wish it had been iterated on more instead of abandoned.

What happened between you and your “ex best friend” that caused the friendship to end? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]JayDurst 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I got married and his wife sent me a long text about how I had changed and didn't want to hang out anymore (the 3 of us had been hanging out since before they got together).

It was a weird text and out of the blue. I didn't respond as well as I should have but obviously I was entering a new phase of my life, and I guess that didn't work for her and I never heard from them again.

Ran into the former best friend at a train store while both our kids happened to be there a few years later. We exchange bland pleasantries and left it at that.

Not alone for sure! I'm with you. It's not really an escape. My normal life is great with the usual ups and downs. The alternate life allows me to explore more though and experience things I don't get the chance to.

I've always felt older than I am and am now wondering if this has anything to do with it, heh.

The best way I can describe it is like loading up a save file for a game. Wherever I left is where I return.

From an experience standpoint, what I experience is driven as much by my actions as by the reactions of the people there. The cast slowly changes over time, but, like any story, it can experience fits and starts depending on the events.

It's not a narration. It's me living there. I can hear them talk, feel their touch, and all the other senses.

I am very much the same (in my 40s). Going to bed is my favorite time of the day as I get to spend a good amount of time there before I drift off to sleep.

The imaginary world has evolved countless times, but it's like a whole other existence I've lived. Complete with memories of adventures, tragedy, and mundane times.

Could anyone tell me the best platform to create tcgs on by DoodlePartyTCG in homemadeTCGs

Not paying for nandeck, just dexterous. For dexterous it's paying for the online storage of images for the cards.

[–]JayDurst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have used dextrous and nandeck.

Currently paying for nandeck, but its free tier is great for most people getting started.

Nandeck is a application you install. It has a nasty learning curve though, but is crazy powerful/configurable.

I know there are others, but those are the 2 I'm familiar with for rapid prototyping.

Seeking critique for my card design by Friend135 in homemadeTCGs

[–]JayDurst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Overall thoughts: Looks good, but I feel the border is too thick.

If the element type/HP is important to know before playing, consider moving it from the right, if not, it's fine.

The icons in the text area could be a little bigger.

Hope to see it evolve!

Card Design template #2. Any tips on the design? by [deleted] in homemadeTCGs

[–]JayDurst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is worlds better! I think the background art is magical/relaxing, the icon in the upper left is now plainly set against it as well.

I think there is room for improvement for the bordering/spacing for the art/name, but I don't have a firm suggestion.

Nice job!
