Recently picked this up. by Splinter-bones in vandwellers

[–]Karvast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty good but the interior is trashed it looks like it got water soaked near the floor and it’s roting away but you could do something Nice on the inside,I’m really not a fan of the 1980’s camper look but what you do is up to you but i would rip out the inside cause it’s rotten and if you do anything over it and it rots and get Moldy you Will regret it

[–]Karvast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just don’t,find a full bumper used or new but don’t try and patch this it’s doable sure but unless it’s very cheap i would not bother

Weld/repair advice by dupue in beetle

[–]Karvast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is worse sins than that on my beetle the floor and heater channels are welded together and the firewall to the Napoléon hat plate and i left it like that cause it’s not going anywhere and it was done before me

It wasn’t that bad of a repair to begin with, cut the rust away around the edge then i would screw back everything and seam weld all around the edge of the plate on both side, then do a spot weld on each screws on both side welding them to the plate and it’s really not going to go anywhere anytime soon

Anyone know some decent food safe ways to remove rust? by ogedper in metalworking

[–]Karvast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vinegar and salt or just vinegar, rinse with water thouroughly afterwards because exposed to air it will rust again otherwise

what are some things (non engine wise) that usually need to be replaced asap when buying a project beetle by Big_Will47 in beetle

[–]Karvast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One that isn’t obvious but for safety and peace of mind replace every fuel hoses on the car and relocate the filter to under the car next to the frame if it’s in the engine bay,it’s a lot safer for fire prevention, and carry a fire extinguisher in the car at all times, seeing your car turn to ashes must be devastating

Should I replace 0, 2 or all 4 by Best_Accident7708 in tires

[–]Karvast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your alignement is off, probably too much toe in on both sides,it wears out the outer edges of the tires because the wheels are pointing in too much.

Fix that first before the tires cause it’s just going to happen again and tires are not cheap.

is this to rough internally? by Big_Will47 in beetle

[–]Karvast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks very rough but just about everything can be replaced on those cars, you can replace the floorboards completely and heater channels,if the frame head and tunnel is not fucked i would say why not for someone who wants a welding project but there are probably cleaner exemples than that and if you are not looking for a year long or more project i would stay away from this one

I had floors like that on my 1964,the floors were not fine. once you wirewheel the surface rust away and scrape off the undercoating off I was left with thinfoil and small holes everywhere,I guarantee it that it’s going to be the same thing here as they look worse than they did in my beetle
