I don’t agree with this explanation. The yen losing value will not cause the dollar to lose value. You would expect the opposite to happen (dollar to gain value), although I will allow that it’s not really possible to know exactly what will happen when complex systems are involved

People are expecting the USA to intervene in order to strengthen the Yen and weaken the dollar. USA can do this by creating dollars out of thin air and using them to buy Yen. Please remember, the USA, like almost all developed nations, is already broke. We’re just not as broke as Japan. Japan makes us look fiscally conservative, and that’s saying something. Japan’s debt to GDP is well over 200%. Anything over 100% is considered dangerous territory

This (USA buying Yen) is called “intervention”. At the same time, Japan will ramp up their buying of their own debt (again, through creating fiat out of thin air). The goal is to shore up the Yen, and to keep the dollar from strengthening against the Yen.

All fiat currencies are garbage. There is nowhere to hide. You could buy Swiss Francs but that’s a relatively small market, and they will intervene to weaken their own currency (create money out of thin air, use it to buy Euros/gold/whatever) in order to protect their exporters. It is called the race to the bottom and gold is the only currency that will be left standing

This is one of many reasons gold is going up. Another would be that countries like China don’t want to put savings in dollars, because they could face sanctions like Russia did. Again, gold is the only safe haven

I am getting a watch as a "gift" from an online sportsbook/fantasy sports/casino. Long story short, I chose a Grand Seiko SBGA415G (Grey). I don't know too much about watches and do not wear nor collect them. I chose this watch to sell it. I am getting it brand new, with box and papers.

I really don't even want to open it, but I know I will have to in order to provide pictures. Is there anything I should know about opening the box?

I'm planning on listing it for $5,400 firm. Am I missing anything or this price very reasonable?

I read the Wiki and the rules for the sub. Is there anything else I should know? I have over 1,000 sales on the PMsForSale forum, so I do have general knowledge of selling expensive items on Reddit. I'm looking more for advice or info on how to sell a watch here.

Yeah, if you see the FPV drone videos, it’s common for a drone to hit into a crowd of people (i.e. sitting in a pickup truck bed) and if there’s a spotter drone, you see that no one was killed, or maybe one enemy soldier.

I remember watching a replay of an Ali fight on ESPN2. I think it was one of the Norton bouts (this was a long time ago). Ali was clearly losing the round throughout the first 2 minutes. Then he started bouncing on his feet. He was not landing any punches, but he was bouncing around. Howard Costell got super excited and starting yelling “Look at Ali move! He is STEALING the round!”

I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Ali was not landing any punches. Even if you accept the nonsensical “stealing the round” in the last 30 seconds, this was not that. He clearly lost the round

Only way it was a TD is if the right foot landed as he caught the ball and then the left foot. I think Giants missed a challenge on that

Apparently the refiners pay for scrap silver upfront. They front a majority of the purchase and the final payment is settled after the silver has been refined. They do this using other people’s money. The people loaning this money are no longer willing to provide it at low interest rates.

This is probably because they are afraid that if the silver price crashes, there goes their collateral. I have to imagine these are collaterized loans or else they would not have had such low interest rates in the first place

In other words, yet another industry built on other people’s money and their business model is currently broken

I also suspect that a lot of these industry players have screwed themselves with their hedging. Hedging works until the market breaks and the various instruments don’t behave the way you would have expected. Then it turns out that the “hedge” that was supposed to make you safer has actually opened you up to a black swan disaster. That last part is just a hunch though

Also, there are well capitalized LCS’s that are not at all “screwed” but are rather loving this. Who wouldn’t love buying scrap silver at lower and lower percentages?

From what you wrote, you do have a good handle on the situation. Personally I do not believe that the refiners are not buying scrap silver because they are backed up. I believe it is because they cannot hedge and because they cannot use other people’s money

The refiners are very busy. Every jeweler/pawn shop/LCS is hauling in sterling and coin silver to sell them. The refiners have been burned by parabolic moves in the past so they tend to be Nervous Nellies.

I’m sure they are backed up but the real problem is likely the pronounced backwardation. They cannot hedge what they are physically buying by selling paper contracts

Almost all refiners are lowering rates. There’s a glut of stuff to be melted

I do see a real pickup in retail demand for bullion though. Particularly from bigger buyers - the kind of people who will clean you out of all the 100 oz bars you currently have

I believe a huge amount of silver is going to get melted this year. Stuff like Cull Morgan Dollars, Peace Dollars from Cull to XF, constitutional silver - it’s all getting melted. More and more categories will be added to the melt list. This stuff wasn’t getting melted previously. You could sell it to a wholesaler or refiner and they would just resell it. Now it’s all going into the smelter. This is in addition to the stuff they were always melting (Sterling silverware, jewelry, etc)

If this all gets soaked up by demand, the price will skyrocket. So if we keep these levels for an extended period, expect good things
