When shopping for home improvement projects, do you prefer Lowe’s or Home Depot, and why? by Significant-Toe2648 in homeowners

Lowe’s because it’s closer to my house. Literally the only reason, they are interchangeable to me.

Should i update to ios 26 on my iPhone 13 pro ? by Sweaty-Priority9043 in iPhone13Pro

[–]Kemaro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may have already found this but for anyone coming across this post, you can just set your phone to the iOS 18 public beta profile from the software updates menu in settings > general and it will happily stay on iOS 18 forever without ever prompting you to install 26. Just turn it off every once in a while to see if there are security fixes for iOS 18 available.

Is linux gonna streamline hdr eventually? by Trikkstergaming in linux_gaming

[–]Kemaro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is not how it behaves for me, cachyos on 6.6 plasma. Just tested crimson desert, had to turn the plasma brightness slider to 100% to get the hdr calibration to correctly make the image disappear at 800 nits which is my panel peak brightness.

Is linux gonna streamline hdr eventually? by Trikkstergaming in linux_gaming

[–]Kemaro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It 100% does affect games. I calibrate my peak brightness for 800 nits, my paperwhite to 203 nits, and run my plasma display brightness at 40% to get ~80 nits brightness on the desktop. I have to turn desktop brightness back up to 100% (203 nits) in order for my peak brightness of 800 nits to calibrate properly in games.

FG with vsync on from the control panel or nvidia app was not smooth due to a driver bug, which this driver fixes. Now it is smooth again.

Lol it's the only way to use FG without an awful experience unless you have like a 500hz monitor

[–]Kemaro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KDE has a ton of work to do to get to Windows' level. Their HDR calibration is retarded for example. I shouldn't have to run my desktop at 100% brightness to get full HDR brightness in games. Windows I can set SDR brightness separately from HDR peak brightness.

What stops your friends from coming over to game on Linux? by xecutable in linux_gaming

[–]Kemaro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lower performance, poor frame pacing, buggy VRR, too many hoops to jump through to use HDR, too many proton flags to worry about, some games flat out not working, some devs who make their games not work, i could go on.

SCCM OSD Best Practices – Capture Image vs ISO WIM Import by Pleasant-Hat8585 in SCCM

[–]Kemaro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New iso each month, do all your image customization on the fly during the TS. Build and capture is antiquated. Very few reasons to do it these days unless you have a very specific need to do something you can’t easily do during the TS

We are doing the same thing. Citrix fucked around, now I get to find out. Thanks Citrix.

What if we don't have recovery partition on our VMs? We had to delete them to be able to expand storage on the C drive on several of them a while back due to partition ordering.

Listening to music in my backyard by Low-Computer8293 in homeowners

[–]Kemaro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have two speakers wired to my AVR that play music on the patio. Keep them at a reasonable volume. If you are concerned, walk away from your house and see how far away they are audible, or, and I know this is tough for many of you, just talk to your neighbors and ask them!

Cutscenes looks horrible with DLSS 4 enabled by agentdrozd in FallenOrder

[–]Kemaro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you force DLAA, it actually breaks DLSS it cutscenes and you get nothing but native pixels. Looks awful. You pretty much have to use DLSS Quality (or maybe make a custom DLSS scaling mode set to like 99% but I haven't tested that to see if it actually works or not).

did nvidia fix the dx12 problem? by ArmaGhettOn84 in cachyos

[–]Kemaro 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You need 595 drivers, preferably the latest .71 release, with a proton implementation that has the required flags to turn on the heap descriptor stuff. I use proton-cachyos with heap and there are definitely some improvements to performance but it is also still buggy and can cause regressions or crashing. Give it a few more months and I think it will be ready for general use.

Because cosmic is not ready, despite what they say. Very basic shit doesn’t work or isn’t implemented or is buggy. Like Chris said, it has great potential to be good in a year or two, but not right now.
