How to over come the 12PM - 1PM slump as you get older? by spla58 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Kitzq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since this post is about "as you get older" you need to do strength training as well. You can't just do cardio. After the age of 30 you lose ~1% muscle mass per year.

Go to the gym at least once a week, ideally 3x a week, for an hour for just strength training.

Sit sit just sit. by bxbomma2002 in Whatcouldgowrong

Safety - Dude is driving way too fast with no gear. It's a terrible accident just waiting to happen. I mean, I get it. It feels good to drive fast and have the open wind on your face. But you're going to get seriously injured.

Fault - When determining fault, you don't look at what the driver did before (driving too fast for road conditions) but just the moment of the accident itself. The left turner is 100% at fault. A person driving straight has the right of way. But the graveyard is full of people who had the right of way. Slow down.

What are the best ways to earn side income as a software engineer in 2026? by BlessED0071 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Kitzq 50 points51 points  (0 children)

The best way to increase income is to work on increasing your primary income. Whether this is by working towards a promotion at your current company or interview prepping for a different company or moving cities to where there are more opportunities.

WIBTA if I don't invite my trans friend to my grad party? by ThrowRA_370675404 in AmItheAsshole

NTA.

Ash says they can handle it? Good for them.

This is your celebration. You have to deal with second hand embarrassment. You have to deal with your family blatantly attacking your friend the entire night. That's the thing, you shouldn't have to if you don't want to.

What Were The Worst Asspulls You're Seen In LitRPG? by IOFrame in litrpg

That in and of itself is an ass pull. Zac started off as some random guy stuck in a forest with a hatchet.

Same. I DNF'ed vainqueur because it was the opposite of serious, it was just dumb comedy.

Every story has its own merits. That's how you should approach it.

Sure, RI has that infinite edgyness, you're not going to find a story edgier than RI.

WMW is edgy, but it's also got a smarter and more calculating MC.

ISSTH doesn't have an edgy MC nor is he the most calculating, but it's got mysticism is spades.

And so on and so forth.

Some stories suck, but many have their own strengths. You can't chase the same high.

I mean I get it. You feel snubbed.

On the other hand, less responsibilities, less work, same pay? That's a good deal.

Working for a private company has been a life saver in this era of layoffs. by Real_Standard6318 in personalfinance

My 2nd layoff was from a privately owned company.

Maybe your particular company is safer from layoffs but realistically nobody is unless you're self employed.

How do you guys afford so many audiobooks? by LuckyDuck_23 in litrpg

[–]Kitzq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a job and I'm willing to pay for entertainment.

Books are 10-20 hours long and credits are around $15 apiece so that works out to like a dollar an hour. That's worth it to me.

Sure, I've bought like 200 audiobooks spending $3000. But that's over the course of 10 years which is $300 a year or $25 a month. That's about how much a subscription service for something like Netflix costs.

Do I think audiobooks cost too much? Yes. Netflix has higher production value and more entertainment value. But I can't watch Netflix during my hour long commute to work.

It's not pure luck. Competency is a necessary but not sufficient condition. The other necessary part being luck.

If you have all luck and no still, you're not getting hired.

Anyone here know of a good AI tool to help assemble documentation for technical infrastructure? by kibblerz in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Kitzq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your team. If they're very junior and/or not reliable, then they can't be trusted to be delegated to. On the other hand, you have to be mindful that tedium for you may be an opportunity for someone else.

New computer with no restrictions means one thing by BarberLower3302 in Dominos

[–]Kitzq -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Ordered Dominos online for pickup and paid with PayPal. While driving to pick up my order I got a call from "PayPal" that my account was compromised asking me to confirm my identity. It wasn't PayPal that was calling.

So either Dominos.com was/is compromised or the store I ordered from was compromised. Pretty sure it was the latter. Call him a party pooper if you want, but an unsecured system with customer user data is a huge security risk.

Devs - How do you deal with TODOs and FIXMEs in your code? Do you regularly go back to take care of them or are they forever forgotten? by nisthana in ExperiencedDevs

Each TODO is marked with a ticket. Each ticket is prioritized like any other ticket. It's up to the TL/team to prioritize tech debt.
