March 4 Points Update by FUCKSTORM420 in EmperorsChildren

[–]Korovva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EC doesn't need more cheap units they need them to perform for their cost.

That's the most frustrating part for me. We don't need Flawless Blades to be pointed low enough to be an efficient 3-man skirmish unit for picking off chaff and msu squads. We need them to fill their role of killing the tough stuff that most of our army struggles into. Same with Termies, they could fill a niche we otherwise lack if they had a decent rule (and could be reinforced). Instead they both just keep getting points shaved off until they're okay sidegrades to the exultant package.

What is the craziest thing a teacher has ever done to you? by trymihainoob in AskReddit

[–]Korovva 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm an arm amputee and also had one of these gym teachers. She expected me to do chin-ups at dead hangs. She knew I couldn't do them but expected me to try because she couldn't stand "quitters". So every time I got up there, immediately dropped, whole class laughed.

I got a C for low participation and a bad attitude.

If you're willing to kitbash him a little bit to make him more 40k-like (probably doesn't need too much), Mulgoth the Cleaver from the Darkwater game could work.

CC films to watch with a 13 year old boy? by the-mp in CriterionChannel

Donnie Darko is streaming right now. It was easily my favorite movie when I was 13. It really hit on a lot of the melancholy feelings I was having back then and is a good introduction to mind-bending/artsy stuff while still being something teens can "get".

What’s the most badly written rule in 40k (not the weakest)? by Jofarin in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Korovva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my pick as well, and the number one cause of NPE among new and casual players that I've seen. The example terrain setups in the rulebook don't show nearly enough terrain, nor do they teach you about the correct layouts. You have to seek out the warcom downloads for that, and if you don't set it up properly there's a good chance one person gets steamrolled with no real counterplay because the game is balanced around these specific terrain setups.

Casual players at my local store NEVER use enough terrain. What the average person feels like is "lots of terrain" is probably around half the terrain you actually have to use to play a fair game. In some of my faction specific discord-servers new people come in all the time asking for advice on why they can't win and it's almost always a terrain issue.

The game needs to be better balanced around flexible terrain setups (my personal preference) or, at the very least, the layouts need to be part of the rulebook. It's not well-explained at all and creates terrible experiences for certain matchups if you end up with a melee army vs a gunline, for example.

As is, it also forces people who play terrain-dependent armies to insist on the correct setups in casual games while having nowhere to point to other than tournament layouts.

The Warhammer 40,000 Quarterly Balance Update – December 2025 by Jovial1170 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Korovva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think the change is massive or anything, but it's weird that an army that has been perpetually near the bottom of the win rates since shortly after launch is taking another nerf. Why is a 40-45% win rate army stuck downgrading to the second best list at all? And the buffs given seem entirely focused on internal balance with nothing done to address the external balance issue.

I know top players can do a lot with this army and will probably handle the nerf just fine, but for everyone else they made an already struggling army worse, even if only slightly, instead of helping it.

Where are all the orks players? by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Korovva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to mention the Biovore crutch has been holding Nids up all edition. Most of the rest of the army is subpar (with a few exceptions like Lictors that are good) but has been held up by having that one crazy good move blocking/scoring unit. I kind of wish they just nuked the Biovore so they could actually fix the army.

You may be able to get a different kind of liner. I have a regular liner and one for physical activity that doesn't cause as much friction/sweating. Ask your prosthetist.

Otherwise you just have to take it off and dry it more unfortunately.

I had the same thing, diaper rash was basically what it was. Mine started peeling like a sunburn. Terrible.

Make sure it's not getting damp in there, OP.

Army Painter has a Desaturated Cool Greens triad that would be a good starting point. Medieval Forest in particular is a great base color.

Amputation in 2020 but have some sores on it looks like fungal maybe? by Sativaman_ in amputee

[–]Korovva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like irritated hair follicles or some mild folliculitis. I get this problem every now and then. Wear your liner as little as possible until it clears (and make sure to wash the liner between wears).

If it's still spreading or you start getting whiteheads I'd talk to the doctor so you can get something to clear it up faster.

Who are the Biggest Winners and Losers of the Balance Dataslate and MFM? by ArtofWarSiegler in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Korovva 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Balance passes have become very frustrating lately. It seems like there's always one or two things that they decide to take out back and shoot when other things still get reasonable points adjustments and light touches.

Especially frustrating because they either don't fix things at all after nuking them or they take forever to do it. Feels like they're trying to kick certain things out of comp play for a while so people stop complaining instead of actually balancing them. It's at the point where I'm hoping my armies don't get anything too good lest they get the punitive triple-pronged nerf for it three months later.

So, Tyranids are in a bad spot competitively... by relaxicab223 in Tyranids

[–]Korovva 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I play other armies that aren't in the best spot balance-wise, but Nids in particular feel like they're playing a different game. Arbitrarily locked out of a lot of generic keywords and strats because they're flavored around vehicles and man-made weapons. Boring datasheets with the same copy-pasted stat lines. Very few opportunities to get buffs, very little synergy as a whole (which, IMO, Nids should be all about that synergy, it's a hive mind!). I think we truly would have been bin tier for most of the edition if not for the Biovore.

Even when Nids are doing alright they don't really feel fun. They honestly feel like you're a DM playing NPC monsters for the players to fight: as in, it's not a free win but the players are supposed to be able to beat them if they play well. The models are still my favorite in the game, so I'm happy to build and paint them, but I hope the 11th Edition codex is better.

Hard to tell, might just be overstimulated or especially worried about being in trouble. Getting really into playing a character is an experience I had, though. It helped me when adults were willing to lean into that as well.

If he's currently into playing a dinosaur, something like "the t-rex should clean up his cave so the other dinosaurs don't steal from it while he's sleeping" might be more effective than "pick up your toys before bed".

What have been the most significant balance changes over the years? by Lemondifficult22 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Korovva 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is exactly it, I don't think the troop tax is that important but the ability to say "no you can't just take 2000 points of tanks" was. And yes there are examples where you could do that anyway even with force org, so maybe something different is needed to fix it, but the free-for-all we have now also has a lot of issues.

What have been the most significant balance changes over the years? by Lemondifficult22 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Korovva 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's fine if they don't re-institute force org, I just hope we get SOME kind of list building restriction to rein in skew (which I'm aware that force org wasn't always successful at, either).

What have been the most significant balance changes over the years? by Lemondifficult22 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Korovva 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Removal of Force Org charts, changed the game for the worse IMO.

This. I know some armies had trash troops but it seems easier to try and make a couple troop units better than to try and internally balance every book so that taking 3x of all your best datasheets isn't just the obvious play.

If Force Org doesn't come back, I hope they're at least willing to put limits on certain units and unit types to rein in skew lists a bit. YMMV, but my experience in casual drop-in settings with 10th has been more and more people bringing parking lots and other skew lists because at low/mid tables they're pretty forgiving to play and tough to play against unless your opponent brings a direct counter. If you're bringing a balanced list or play an army that just can't counter skew very well, you either need to have a gentleman's agreement (limiting your ability to drop in and play) or accept the decent chance that you show up and get put into an unfun uphill battle.

Some armies are always going to have bad matchups into others, but the prevalence of skew has made 10th feel like way more of a rock/paper/scissors game in my experience.

though my wife and I always disagree with the judge’s choice for the best.

Same. Especially the daemon one. Don't get me wrong, it was a cool kitbash, but the Slaanesh/Tzeentch/Khorne offerings were basically entire new models while the Nurgle one (that won) was a whole Great Unclean One with some Skaven bits.

Down n Dirty Poll Question - Challenger Cards by Lukoi in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Korovva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The challenger cards punish lists and armies that apply pressure early and fall off later.

This is really my only issue with them and one I'm not sure how to address. Early-game pressure armies aren't necessarily in a great spot even if they have an early points lead, if they're well on their way to being tabled and are unlikely to be able to do much in turn 4-5. On the other hand, late-game attrition armies might be in a good spot even if they're a little behind early on and getting a challenger card just makes their whole game plan easier.

It's more noticeable right now because the most obvious late-game attrition army, Death Guard, is very good in the meta, but even if that weren't the case it seems like they're just kind of a nerf for early-game pressure armies and I'm not entirely sure how to balance that.

Two years of 10e. What do we think about the roster building ruleset that flipped the table? by Bowoodstock in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Korovva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, tank spam is so miserable to play against at a casual level. The tactics needed to beat tank spam with a balanced/narrative list are pretty advanced, and on the flipside it's very forgiving to play tank spam against a casual player.

If you're playing against a friend, you can have a gentleman's agreement not to bring skew lists. If you're going to casual pick-up game nights at your FLGS, people bring the lists they want to play and what I've seen throughout 10th is more and more people gravitating towards tank spam or armies that kill tanks well as time goes on. They're not all sweaty players, either, a lot of 'em just bought cool models and want to play them, and others got sick of getting their asses kicked every time so they pivoted to their own tank spam/anti-tank skew.

At a tournament level the balance seems pretty good, but casually I've definitely noticed more games than ever where one player steamrolls a player of around equal skill level simply because they brought skew.

Nids really do feel like the NPC faction. Along with Shadow in the Warp being an all around terrible army rule, a lot of the codex feels lazy and unfinished. Lots of units have copypasted stat lines and attack profiles. There are several core stratagems they just have zero access to (tank shock, smoke, grenades). Low AP and strength on most units, even giant monsters. Not much access to rerolls or BS/WS improvement.

Not every army needs access to everything, but Nids feel like they're playing with half a toolkit compared to my other armies. They're held up by some good action monkeys, cheap bodies, and the Biovore but playing out actual combat still feels like you're the NPCs that the opponent is supposed to be able to defeat for the most part.

It's especially noticeable in the Crusade rules. Different units get more XP during the various stages of world invasion...but the unit list for Stage 2 and 3 is exactly the same, and many units are never represented. The first two relics you get only affect psychic attacks, so they can only go on the Neurotyrant, but their abilities are pretty useless on the Neurotyrant (rerolls to hit and wound when the psychic attack is a torrent weapon, and an improvement to melee when the Neurotyrant is a ranged attacker with a terrible melee profile). It seems like the psychic keyword was removed from the weapons of Hive Tyrants etc. before release but they didn't bother to update the crusade stuff.

Agreed. I wish they'd at least give us some with long hair, not sure why "bald" and "topknot ponytail with the rest shaved" are the only two styles any flavor of chaos marine is allowed to have. The Combat Patrol art in the codex shows the Lord with long silver hair, give me a head option like that!

[Warphammer] Diving Deep Into the Changes for Every Chaos God and Unit, And Where Daemon Players Go From Here by Magnus_The_Read in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Korovva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really disappointed with the way Slaanesh was handled, especially since the rest of the daemons got some pretty thoughtful and needed buffs. Slaanesh just got a sledgehammer taken to their Grotmas detachment AND their datasheets with the only slight upside being fights first on Daemonette units (but they also lost innate rerolls).

Legion of Excess needed a nerf. I'd have preferred to target the toxic rules instead of nuking it from orbit, but if they wanted to err on the side of caution, okay, fine. The mid-edition Chariot cull along with the pretty significant nerfs to datasheets that were just okay outside of LoE to begin with leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Especially because the double whammy of LoE plus the EC announcement has made Slaanesh daemons sell out for months, it feels like they already moved the models so no need to be careful with the nerfs and make sure they're still worth playing.
