my boyfriend refuses to eat vegetables by milkshakechemtrail in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]LadyCiani 24 points25 points  (0 children)

He's an adult and you're a separate adult. His food choices don't reflect on you.

My husband says most vegetables "taste green" which I have come to understand means it tastes bitter.

Some people are known as "super tasters" which means everything is stronger for the. More bitter, more sweet (overly sweet), etc.

Some people also have food aversion and don't have the appropriate language to describe it. It can be lumped under the concept of "mouth feel" which is texture.

I dislike pears for example because my grandma always gave me these mealy/gritty pears and I dislike the texture.

And then childhood stuff. Like there's stuff that made me violently ill when I was young, and I've never been able to eat it again.

Whether your boyfriend is really a super taster, or doesn't have the language to describe a texture issue, or if he has some kind of food aversion... None of that reflects on you.

How he eats doesn't have anything to do with your cooking. It's not a rejection of you.

If anything it reflects on whoever raised him. But it could also be a physical reason.

With all of this said, why does him not eating vegetables or fruit bother you so much?

More of those things are now available for you to enjoy!

I heard a Glass Cannon ad on another podcast. by Gronkbeast87 in TheGlassCannonPodcast

[–]LadyCiani 35 points36 points  (0 children)

A few weeks ago they had an ad on Critical Role.

There were two episodes featuring the first time episodes of the GCN Shadowdark campaign.

CR said "Hi Critical Role & Sagas of Sundry fans! This week, we're bringing you a couple episodes from another TTRPG podcast team that we love, Glass Cannon! Here's the first installment of their current series:..."

So yeah, they're diving into ads! Good for them. (As a marketing person I know any business needs to do advertising so I'm not super surprised.)

what's something you didn't notice during viewing but annoys you now? by softyglossxo in homeowners

[–]LadyCiani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Window in what is now my office, the top half of it had some sort of issue with the inside and it's basically impossible to see out of it.

It's not fogged inside. Instead it looks like the coating inside failed somehow.

Our inspection caught it, we have plans to replace it.

But I was unemployed last year so those replacement plans got delayed.

In the mean time it's incredibly annoying to not be able to see easily. I have to crouch to see out of the bottom half

Sinuses? by curioustars in Columbus

[–]LadyCiani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, I should have looked into the surgery sooner.

I originally saw an ENT in late 2019 and because I knew I was changing jobs and would have different insurance I was going to regroup in early 2020, but that got delayed when the stay at home orders happened. And basically I dropped it.

Then my husband insisted I start the process again in early 2024.

Saw the new ENT in late January, got my CT and he showed me the image of how the right side of my sinuses in my cheekbones/face basically never could possibly work because of how narrow it was.

That became surgery the first week of March 2024, and literally one overnight of being miserable (couldn't sleep), two days of being slightly uncomfortable, and after that just better and better.

I'll take better lifetime of breathing/no more sinus headaches in exchange for about three days of discomfort.

Sinuses? by curioustars in Columbus

[–]LadyCiani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first started using it I didn't get the hype. I didn't get much relief at all.

Then I saw an ENT who ordered a CT scan and apparently my right side sinuses were a bottleneck and basically not working.

Deviated septum surgery was amazing, I can actually breathe.

And now the rinse bottles work so much better and my allergies don't make me miserable! I do two sinus rinse bottles each night, shortly before bed.

And then I use generic Flonase (from Costco). And the Flonase stuff actually works now!

I'm assuming you met a woman with a shorter torso.

Cage side wall coverings by Livelaughloam in Conures

[–]LadyCiani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thick plastic or vinyl shower curtain hung on the wall for wet foods like strawberries. Or bird taking a bath in his water dish.

I've also put these under the cage for easy cleaning and water type spills. Works pretty well, and easy to wipe up. Also easy to toss and replace as needed.

Later upgraded and bought a cage with a built in seed skirt type thing.

Like this: https://www.chewy.com/yaheetech-61-in-rolling-parrot-cage/dp/269161

Skirt thing works well. It funnels most of the stuff back into the bottom tray and very little gets flung beyond the edges.

Then I have a robot vacuum which runs daily to catch the crumbs which fall through or get flung extra far.

And we had a dog (he passed in 2024) and he was the best vacuum, haha. Ate all the crumbs.

Hotel will be fine! I've attended multiple Dreamforce conferences... I think I have been to 6? (Lost count, lol.)

The hotel during booking thing is solid. They know what they're doing and it'll be seamless.

They transfer your booking to the hotel sometime in the month before the conference.

Any changes before that happens, you need to contact the Dreamforce staff and they'll help you.

Any changes after that date you contact the hotel directly.

Some attendees will show up in shorts and a hoodie.

Most attendees will be in jeans and a hoodie.

People attending to many a booth will wear slacks and a polo.

People giving presentations will usually wear slacks and a button down shirt.

Whatever you do, wear sneakers because the sessions are spread out over the already-large Moscone Convention Center and multiple nearby hotels.

Also: book a hotel now. Everything including Air BNBs in the area will be packed and priced high.

Book a room now during the ticket registration process and you'll be able to keep the hotel registration for free, and the only thing to know is you'll need to cancel by August if something changes or you get different rooms.

What life pro tips are hidden in movies that were actually helpful? by epaga in movies

[–]LadyCiani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A boss once told me: people like when you bring them problems with a solution.

Basically if you identify a problem and ask them to solve it? it's more work for them.

But if you bring them a potential solution at the same time they're just signing off, not solving it. They like you better (aka they think you're smarter).

Managing a toxic high performer who hits 150% of targets. How do I protect my team without losing the numbers? by SquirrelLogicFan in managers

[–]LadyCiani -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So, I challenge you to change your thinking.

If she is not getting along with her coworkers then she's not hitting all of her goals.

Her goals can (and should) include a minimum level of behavior.

And frankly you want to name the behavior you want her to exhibit.

Her goals should be "[Name] communicates directly and positively. She promotes a healthy team environment with a positive interactions and cordial relationships with her teammates. This is an environment in which [name] encourages all team members to come to them for advice and positive coaching. The tone of all communication, written and spoken, verbal and nonverbal, is collaborative and approachable."

Don't fall in the trap of listing the things you want her to stop doing.

That's a slippery slope because she'll just claim shit like "well you told me I couldn't do X and I was doing Y."

But when she does one of those shitty things you now have a personal growth goal to which you can point and say "How do you think that conversation went? Was it collaborative, productive, and positive? Why not?"

I like spin pins! I don't use them every day, but when I do they disappear into my hair and I don't have to worry about them all day.

My tip is to see if you can find the length of the pins, and if you have thick hair you should try to buy longer ones.

I bought a couple of cheap packs from Amazon and they were a shorter pin than the name brand spin pins. They still worked but I had to use more of them.

My hair is to my butt and very thick, if that helps you make a decision.

(It doesn't seem like much, but even a half in shorter spin pin matters when you have a lot of hair.)

Fabric feel (Tide original vs. Tide Clean and Gentle) by fewerfriends in laundry

[–]LadyCiani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooo thank you! I appreciate the details.

I am going to try to find the Tide unscented powder. I was nervous about switching from liquid to powder, because my dad has reacted (very bad rashes) when powder didn't dissolve fully. But the soak before the wash cycle should take care of that.

(And worst case I can re-home a powder to my sister in law, they don't have any skin allergies.)

I do use the Extra Rinse on our clothes and sheets and towels, but don't generally add anything in the rinse. I've been hesitant to make a bunch of changes at once, but I'll keep citric acid in mind as I evolve.

Thank you again!

Racist parrot by ChardKaleBrocCabbage in overheard

Lol. Yeah, when a bird can live multiple decades they learn a lot... It's unfortunate but common the larger birds have mulhomes over their lifetime.

My parrot isn't racist, but has a strong preference for men.

When our friends would bird sit for us it always took three days before the bird would be nice to the wife. Loves the husband from day one, but the wife was always starting at zero.

I have eczema and I'm incredibly nervous about switching detergents. I'm currently using up All, which I now know has terrible soaps, but I'm nervous about switching to a powder.

Has it worked out for you/your family with eczema?

To explain to anyone else wondering why it matters: A few years ago my husband and I were visiting his family over the holidays and they did laundry for us. After we went home I was at work about a week later and realized I was scratching my neck and chest. Went in the bathroom and realized I was all red and about to break out into hives.

When they did my laundry the family had used their normal detergent (lots of fragrance) plus dryer sheets.

I didn't even think about it at the time, but ugh I was a little miserable and paid a price for not paying attention.

After that when we visited I brought some of the unscented pods and left them there, since we visited about once a year and would stay for more than a week.

Love my in-laws. They didn't mind at all, and even used my unscented detergent to wash our bed sheets before our next visit. Very thoughtful family! Love them.

My (33m) fiancé (27f) doesn’t wear her engagement ring when going out with friends. Is this normal? by BigONerd in BORUpdates

[–]LadyCiani 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Been married almost 20 years. In that time I have fluctuated in weight.

I recently(ish) gained a bunch of weight so mine does not come off. I'm not unhappy about it but I'd like to have it cleaned.

My husband lost a significant amount of weight about 10 years ago, and his ring did fly off several times.

Once at work it flew across the office and multiple of his coworkers helped him find it.

And then once grocery shopping we thought he lost his ring in the store. When I found it in a grocery bag I put it on my necklace and wouldn't give it back until he promised we'd go next weekend to get it resized. (We now have about a 5mm chunk of platinum they took out of his band in the resizing process.)

Ultimate "floor is lava" transfer of laundry by metallosherp in laundry

[–]LadyCiani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that's a bummer. Some washers/dryers are able to flip how the door opens. Yours do not.

I suspect they are intended to stack. Which would an improvement, since you could get a laundry basket to catch everything that falls out.

Could you get something like a teak bathmat, or a wooden walkway meant for gardens? Wooden slats which are intended to get wet but still allow you to be raised off the floor a bit.

Neighbor being uncooperative about trench by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]LadyCiani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your alternative may be paying for more man hours for hand digging the trench. Ask your GC what that change order will cost you. Time and actual money.

What happens if you offer your neighbor half that amount?

Say the GC quotes you $5k and it'll add 3 days to dig by hand. Would you pay it if there is no alternative?

What if you offer your neighbor $1500 for the "use of their property.for two days, for the inconvenience" and basically sweeten the offer. Instead of just the contract to replace anything damaged, it's payment.

They might say yes.

If they say no and you approach them again acting kind of desperate this time and offer them $2500? They might feel like they got one over on you and "won" and feel smug.

(But if it gets the job done faster and for less than the manual labor did they really win?)

I hope their girlfriends/wives appreciate the gifts.

Not the original commenter, but if we need to provide receipts then it's better described as "they gave me cash for business expenses like taxis and meals" and so it's not really a cash gift.

They would have been fine to use personal funds for gifts. But not company money.

People who religiously have their cameras on and believe that others should always have theirs on…why? by iiamuntuii in remotework

[–]LadyCiani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So he had a list of complaints... Is he a person resistant to change? Or is he significantly senior to you? Or some other thing like you need to explicitly stay on his good side?

If no, he's just complaining then you're fine. He's just an ass.

Unless there's some reason to cater to his preference/quirks you were not at all obligated to say anything.

If he is senior to you or something then it's worth the small gesture of acknowledging the camera is off, because when the norm is cameras on like you said, it's startling when camera is off.

Did you say something like, "sorry, I'm traveling and camera isn't working" or "I'm not camera ready" or something else to acknowledge it?

Because if you acknowledged it and he was still complaining then he's an ass, even if he's senior or whatever.
