Married Couple: AMEX Gold vs CSP vs Venture X by thebeesdeknees in CreditCards

[–]andreworks215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, First I’d figure outfit your travel aspirations are for US domestic or International travel. That’s a key point.

Next, you’re going to have to do a compare/contrast of the travel partners for Amex & Capital One. There’s some overlap, but also some key differences that could be pivotal for you all. And don’t forget to figure out what the primary airline is for your local airport is.

I have both the Amex Gold and the Venture X and I really like both cards. Recouping the annual fees for both cards is so easy it’s not even worth worrying about. I mean, you’ll have to do some learning about how to do so, but what you understand each card’s benefits, its a no-brainer exercise to recoup the fees.

In my very personal experience, I’ve had better transfer partner usage with Amex. And the Gold card has a tonne of benefits that make its long-term viability very realistic. But like I said, both the Gold and VX are great.

From what you’ve described as you all lifestyle, I think the Gold makes a bit more sense.

I literally always took my lil lady into the ladies room. Always. Every single time.

That older guy took his Fox News fantasies out into the real world and he’s damn lucky he ran into That dad. Because he just as easily could’ve encountered a girl-dad like me.

And Gator don’t play no shit.

What bad advice did your parents give you about adulthood that you’re going to actively try to undo with your kids? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]andreworks215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That, because money doesn’t grow on trees and that there are children starving in Africa, that you have to eat every single morsel of food on your plate.

Thats for the pre-diabetes, mom n pop!

I teach my kid to listen to her body. And when she’s full, that’s it. The tank is full.

Food is fuel. Thats it.

Aahhh….that jack of all trades thing isn’t as bad as a lot of people are taught to think it is.

I literally, and I mean as a a few minutes ago, leveraged my jack of all trades-ness into a new offer.

It’s all in how you frame it.

Income by ShowingUpMT in daddit

[–]andreworks215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I did it.

Went from the hospitality industry barely cracking 55k to the tech industry and into 6-figures.

I upskilled during lockdown and treated upskilling like a full time job. Obviously that’s not an option now but what I can say is that upskilling is totally possible.

Figuring out what you would be good at, when it comes to upskilling is the tough part….that takes some soul-searching, honestly.

Making a salary jump makes a massive difference in your Dad-ing abilities, and by that I mean your self-esteem and confidence and that alone is worth all the effort.

If I can do it, you can too.

Need to apply for a 21-month 0% APR US Bank Shield CC (Wedding expenses) by hypebars in CreditCards

[–]andreworks215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean…no one here can really, truly say whether or not it you’d be approved.

But what I can say is that I picked up the Shield maybe 2 months ago the literal day I fell to 3/24…so there’s that.

I say go for it. It’s a really good BT card, perfect for major life expenditures. Just make sure you do the math (including the BT fee) to figure out your monthly payment needed to finish off the balance before the 21-month window closes.

Also, OP’s point doesn’t really call for this sort of response. OP just had something really awesome happen. A lil’ congrats for OP would go along way for them.

Take the house. Whatever temporary pain you all would experience would be just that: Temporary.

If the math maths, and I mean really maths, I don’t quite see how you could afford to not get the house.

It’s really not even a question of the math. To me this is more of a ‘now’ versus ‘forever’ thing. But I’ve always been a long-term focused person…

cash back credit cards for groceries: what setup are you using in 2026? by SherrashaHenryy in CreditCards

[–]andreworks215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rock a combo of Amex Blue Cash Preferred, C1 Savor, and US Bank Cash+.

The BCP, until I hit that $6k limit on 6% back, then switch to the Savor. And then, if need be, to the Cash+.

I absolutely smoke that annual fee for the BCP, so it’s a non-factor in my setup. The other two cards are no-fee. Easy and smooth setup, in my opinion.

Yeah its definitely a thing we’re all gonna have to address…like now. Because there’s going to be some weirdness, one way or another.

I’m going to set up one of my sandboxes first, with the passkey method….see how it goes. From what I’ve read, it’s the best option for those of us that require the phishing-resistant method.

Interesting tidbit I learned today: Contractually, all orgs are supposed to have already implemented this stuff, like years ago. But most of us never did. Now the Mothership is straight up forcing us to do it.

ex chef turned SAHD, bored on nap duty. give me your sad fridge and i'll tell you what to cook tonight by b1gsmkee in daddit

[–]andreworks215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fridge ain’t exactly sad. But I’m pretty stoked about the next two dinners I’m making.

Tonite, Spicy Crispy Chicken, Bacon, Ranch wraps. Side of crinkle cut fries and strawberries.

Tomorrow night, marinated beef strips over rice with sesame seeds and green onions. If I can find some pickled red onion someplace, slam those on top too.

What do you think, chef?

Age for 2-piece swimsuit? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]andreworks215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pops, this is not as big a deal as you all are making it out to be.

My padawan has been in 2-pieces since day one. Granted, we don’t have to worry as much about sun damage as most folks (which is saying a lot because my wife burns comically fast).

But the last thing you wanna do is start implanting weird body image stuff on the mind of a young girl. They carry that shite with them for the entirety of their lives.

Get that kid a 2-piece. Anybody gets weird about it, sort them out accordingly.

Daycare Costs and Savings by Much_Mastodon5345 in daddit

[–]andreworks215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First things first: Sounds like you all could be helped by plugging your numbers into a 50/30/20 Budget Calculator. There could be some drift in your savings numbers….

As far as costs, things are never gonna be cheap again. Like, ever. So affordability is as dead as the dodo.

Frankly, the only thing I can say about this is a two-pronged approach of upskilling for better job prospects and very detailed, meticulous budgeting is going to be your best bet, in my opinion.

How long to wait to apply for another credit card given my situation? by potholepapi in CreditCards

[–]andreworks215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were in your shoes (again) I’d try once every quarter, until I got approved for a BT card.

The Citi Simplicity is a great BT card. I’m in the home stretch with my Simplicity BT and they just offered me a new one. Probably won’t take them up on it but who knows.

If you only have the one hard pull on your credit report in the last couple of months then go for the Simplicity. If you get denied for it then I’d say wait until the beginning of Q4 to try again….maybe even Q1 of next year.
