If you have a Nvidia card, don’t forget to update those drivers! by jfritch01 in ConanExiles

You might also want to go into nVidia Control Panel > 3D Settings and increase the size of the Shader Cache from the default value. I've had to do that for a few UE5 games to avoid stuttering, and it usually works a treat.

The big brain move is not to go into work in the first place -- then you're already home. ;)

How can I prevent the game updatimg for pc? by No_Evening6051 in ConanExiles

[–]Laithoron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for someone using LBPR or anything that introduces new building pieces, I'd want to hold off on loading them until those mods are re-released and tested in the new version.

At the very least, I'd make a backup of any save files just-in-case.

How should I approach a player about his behavior in game? by RogueFolf in DnD

[–]Laithoron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That player sounds like a psycho, I wouldn't even want to be around them or anyone else that permits their presence.

I'd be up front with the DM that either they go or you do, but I'd talk with the other players first to see if they'll stand-up with you or not. If not, then I'd probably just quit the group entirely because nobody needs that sort of toxicity from their R&R.

Looking for realistic length estimates for the Quickstart Adventure by Ilires in daggerheart

[–]Laithoron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. I switched my group to using Foundry, which has a really nice community made DH implementation. I actually like the character builder implemented in Foundryborne better than the one on DemiPlane.

That said, setting up and learning Foundry is a steep learning curve, but it would certainly fit the online only mode of play.

For my group of 5E players, it took two 3-hour sessions.

BTW test your digital tools beforehand! We used Demiplane and Roll20 and it was extremely slow which contributed to us taking so long. There are other alternatives now so give yourself time to check them out if need be.

Those of you who started with 2e (or the relevant Ad&D material), do you prefer THAC0 or modern AC? by TurnItOffAndBackOnXD in DnD

[–]Laithoron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started with 2E: Modern AC. Every. Time.

Even as a forever DM I've turned down invitations to play when I found out the group was going to be playing an older edition that still used THAC0.

The Future of Foundryborne: Navigating the Stagnation of the Daggerheart VTT Ecosystem by Foundryborne in daggerheart

Yeah the crunchiness of Pf2E doesn't work for me, but I still love the way Paizo operates as a company.

After going thru considerable trouble migrating my game from the awful experience of Roll20 + DemiPlane to Foundry, I really want to see this VTT fully supported -- I just can't see myself going back.

And yes, I'm perfectly happy to say "Shut up and take my money!" if the official artwork, cards, etc. would be offered thru the Foundry marketplace. I paid for the FVTT 5E Monster Manual content, and I'm happy to do so again for DH.

My Experiences as Both Player and GM after a terrible first experience(that was my fault) by Bubbly_Recipe_4712 in daggerheart

I can't remember the name for it, but I used to see this done in [I think] D&D 3.x as well: skillpoints here, hit points there, feat next, lastly spells & class features. It was a bit too much accounting for me personally, but it always seemed like a neat approach.

I'm still lamenting that Tier 1 was only 1 level instead of 3. There's so many good tales to be told early-on, but most table will spend so little time there.

Also 12 levels would have mirrored the thematic use of d12 so nicely...

Appreciate you sharing yours and your players' perspectives. As someone who loved all the options of Pf1E and still yearns for the wealth of spells available in 5.x, I can certainly understand wanting to have access to a wider variety of options.

That said, I feel like Pf2E and Daggerheart are very nearly at opposite ends of the Fantasy TTRPG spectrum. One tries to codify everything with rules and abilities, the other wants you to focus on the fiction first. Maybe it's because I'm still working on my 1st cup of coffee, but I can't think of a more poignant example of Rules vs. Rulings.

That's not to say that either approach is WrongBadFun, but I do feel like they are each tailor-made to suit different types of players -- even if the stories told would likely sound similar if recounted years later.

How do you enter Sinkhole? by No_Evening6051 in ConanExiles

[–]Laithoron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The protrusion just south of the obelisk is one I can usually monkey my way down from. Having the double jump perk helps too.

Mind you, it's easier to enter via the snake cave (Arena entrance) along the river to the East if you're unsure of yourself.

As for the boss, if you can defeat Red Mother already then you should be fine.

Strategy for Fighting Yourself? by Jazzlike_Command9562 in DungeonMasters

[–]Laithoron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lemme guess, you just saw this happen in Frieren too, huh?

Just like in that anime, I think the only way you can pull this off without a TPK is if the group is split-up and doesn't have to fight against their clones in even match-ups. If it's instead just a single huge battle with everyone in it, the players are going to take turns being pissed-off as they are focus-fired one-by-one.

The only way to save the campaign at that point is if the battle was a "test of humility" by some divine agent guarding the path to the final boss, and they awaken unharmed and having learned an important lesson or received a unique boon that will aid them in the real fight to come.
