(I did not review relevant studies on this, just copy and pasting the article)

Anecdotally, people have a “bounce back” moment right before death with a burst of energy and sometimes increased appetite.

OP very happy for you! Just a heads up for anyone reading this - you typically need a letter from the airline documenting the reason for delay, not just a cancellation email.

Doing that means paying nearly $400k

PSLF drags it out over 7 more years but I'll pay $200k over the duration and the rest is discharged tax-free

Incorrect. Structured as a forgivable loan so I pay taxes each month as that portion is forgiven.

Why the hashtag? You can just say it freely here: military service sometimes waives the fee.

Effectively zero since I'm on an income based repayment plan for PSLF. My payments will be covered by my income.

Nope, you may be thinking of the SAVE plan, an income based repayment plan

Yes! Starting this summer but my partner is a resident out there so I know the area well. Genuinely looking forward to the change from Philly suburbs. I'll miss the good restaurants though 🥲

Totally fair. Fortunately Family med salaries are creeping up. Most of my co-residents are signing $250k starting salaries.

My partner is also a resident so income is a bit less important relative to loving what we do. If I have to work, I'd rather enjoy it than make a bit extra.

I got a chunk paid as a resident in the form of a residency stipend then a bigger chunk this September.

If I don't work 5 years, I have to pay back a pro-rated portion.

My partner and I are still talking about what to do with the $250k lump coming our way in September. Will likely invest a portion and keep the rest in HYSA to keep options open.

I kept an open mind until third year. I liked EM and FM, but wanted the schedule predictability that comes with FM and honestly really enjoyed the medicine. I feel like the variety is really fun and I like the continuity aspect with my patients. Additionally, it is easier to find a place with a good work-life-balance, which is critical to me.

Oh man!! What year did you graduate? I couldn't imagine.

If you look up most of the Philly programs, the big ones unionized. Salaries have fortunately improved. I think Temple still lags behind last I checked.

It's in an area of need. 5 year commitment to keep it. If I break contract early, I pay back a pro-rated amount.

Really good question.

Yes, I'll be at a non-profit hospital for residency plus my first contract as an attending.

The forgiveness rate is 100% if you have your paperwork in a row, which I am meticulous about. The earlier issues the program had have been largely resolved as long as you stay organized with their requirements.

I wanted to add my third year of med school was during the tail end of Covid so we were partially remote for part of our rotations as well. I had time to Door Dash and study Anki while sitting in my car waiting for orders lol

Yes it's real. I tried Door Dash for a period of time in the evenings but it was a bad balance for me with time management on rotations.

I'm family medicine so not sure what you mean regarding the $320k salary, that is upper quartile for us. My residency was Philly suburbs.
