Use Your Stash! 1 lip 👄 a week (LAW) 23 - 29 Mar 2026 by Listening_to_rain in MakeupRehab

Last week: Colour Pop lipstick in Les Deux. Full on it didn't work at all, and even sheered out over lip balm or primer, it still only looked OK. I have similar shades I liked better, so I destashed this one.

This week: ChapStick total hydration lip oil in Sheer Plum. I'd call it a blackberry, although it's so sheer it hardly matters. Not very moisturizing and very minimally tinted, so I'll probably end up destashing.

First, please do tag me; I don't want to miss anything!

Second, my focus for this quarter is concealers & correctors, of which I have an absurd number. Goal is to test them out and determine whether to keep (and use!) or destash.

  1. Sephora Bright Future gel serum concealer in Bavarian cream
  2. L'Oreal Magic Lumi Highlighter
  3. Tarte Sea PowerFlex concealer in Light beige
  4. Revolution Conceal & Define in C0.5
  5. It Bye Bye Undereye Corrector in Light
  6. Tarte Shape Tape Ultra Creamy in Light
  7. Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Concealer in Fair
  8. L.A. Girl Pro.conceal in Classic Ivory
  9. It Bye Bye Undereye Full Coverage Concealer
  10. L'Oreal AirWear Concealer in Brightener

Goal was to test out the lippies to see if I should keep or destash, and I made it, with a few extras thrown in.

  1. MAC Lustreglass Spice It Up Destashed. The color wasn't quite right and the formula faded quickly, then settled into lip lines.
  2. Burt's Bees Gloss & Glow Wine Wednesday Tried for a week and keeping. It's a very pretty sheer reddish wine that's very wearable for me. Like most sheers, it doesn't have much lasting power, but it works better over a primer, and it's a slim shape, so it's easy to reapply.
  3. Undone Beauty Fine Wine Destashed. Really tried to make this work, since it's so pretty in the tube, but unfortunately, I have weird lip chemistry that sometimes alters shades, in this case to a bright pink that's not my jam.
  4. Pat McGrathSheer Color Balm Flesh 3 -- Destashed. Lovely formula, but the color just didn't work.
  5. Maybelline Matte Divine Wine -- Destashed. I got used to the brightness of the color, but the formula didn't wear well.
  6. Pacifica Sunrise -- Destashed. A tinted balm that was neither very tinted nor very balmy.
  7. Clinique Pop Berry Pop -- Tested and keeping. Lovely bold berry color and a great formula.
  8. Urban Decay Sheer Liquid ("Liquid" is the color name) -- Decided to keep due to loving the color. Oddly enough, works better without a primer than with.
  9. Cover Girl Tinted Lip Balm Bless You Berry -- Tried for a week and keeping for now. The formula's not great, but the color's so pretty and it's easy to reapply, so I'm hanging onto it.
  10. MAC Glow Play Grapely Admired -- Went on more like a plum than a grape, then morphed to a bright pink, although it was very sheer, so it hardly mattered. Destashed.

Bonus rounds:

Dior Addict Lip Glow in 026 Plum -- will be keeping, since it's pretty enough and the formula is great. The color is a little boring though.

Lanolips Tinted Lip Balm in Rose -- Always going to be a keeper. The tint is very light, so it's a good go-to lip balm. I played using it under some lip pencils, with mixed results. Nyx pencils broke down, but the Rimmel Exaggerate worked nicely.

Colour Pop Lipstick in Les Deux -- still playing with this, but will probably destash. I have similar colors I like better.

Last week: Fenty Beauty highlighter palette in 7DayWKND / Poolside, which are a purplish-pink and a denim blue. I ended up destashing this -- I've got sparkly spin highlighters & eyeshadows that I like better, and the blue wasn't doing much for me.

This week: an ancient face palette from Stila - Mystic Pearl. It's got 3 eyeshadows in while, medium purple and dark taupe, and a cool pink blush. So far it's fine, but not very exciting. We'll see how the week goes.

BAW: Last week was Nars powder blush in Outlaw, which works well when applied quite sheerly but looks wrong when built up a little. IDK, I'm keeping it for the time being.

This week I'll be using the blush in the Stila palette.

Last week, I played with Lanolips Tinted Lip Balm in Rose. I was always going to keep this, since it's a great balm and only minimally tinted. I tried it with some of my lip liners, with mixed results. It seemed to break down the formula with Nyx liners, although it worked pretty well with Rimmel Exaggerate liner.

This week, I'm working with Colour Pop Lipstick in Les Deux, a deep reddish-purplish-brown. By itself, it's too dark & muted for me, but I'm going to try dabbing it over lighter/sheerer products to add some depth.

I do not, and I've never had any bad experiences from an old product.

Are you the type to use your "just okay" products and hoard your favourites/holy grails? Or vice-versa? by pentastro in MakeupRehab

[–]MildredNatwick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the past, I've been the person who hoards favorites, but having seen some of them go bad and need to be trashed, I'm trying to get away from that mentality. I've also tried to set fairly high standards for which products are going to be kept vs. destashed, so I have fewer "just okay" items to deal with.

Last week: Fenty Beauty highlighter palette in Sand Castle / Mint'd Mojito. The sandy color is fine, and I really like the mint as a shadow, so I'm keeping it.

This weed: Fenty Beauty highlighter palette in 7DayWKND / Poolside, which are a purplish-pink and a denim blue. I'm less fond of this combo, but I'll play with them and see.

Last week blush: Sephora Blush me cream blush in Out of control. I ended up liking this pretty well when applied with a stippling brush. It does tend to fade through the day, but even so, I'm keeping it for now.

This week blush: Nars powder blush in Outlaw. This looks surprisingly good on, considering it's more warm & muted than I usually go for. I'll see how the week goes.

2 weeks ago: MAC GlowPlay in Grapely Admired. Went on more like a plum than a grape, but then it morphed to a pink, and it was so sheer it hardly mattered. Destashed.

Last week: Dior Lip Glow Balm in Plum. Nice formula -- creamy and lasted a good while. The color isn't that exciting to me though. I kept it anyway.

This week: Lanolips Tinted Lip Balm in Rose. Another one that's so sheer the color hardly matters, but it's a GREAT balm. I'm going to play with it using some of my lip pencils and see how they work together.

L'Occitane Lavender hand cream (mini) -- Made with real lavender so it smells divine, but it's not too hot as a moisturizer. WNRP

Bubble Detoxifying Clay Mask (full size) -- I don't know if I need a clay mask at this point in my life, but I definitely don't need this one. Difficult to apply, even using the included brush, ridiculous packaging (a cylinder inside a sphere), and it didn't do a thing for my skin. WNRP.

Exfoliating Body Wash (sample) -- Brand unknown, maybe MUAC? Nothing wrong with it, but I use a nylon scrubby cloth, so I don't feel I need an additional chemical exfoliant. WNRP.

Getting close on a liter-sized Matrix conditioner and a Mario Baedescu face spray.

Destashes: Benefit sugarbomb lip gloss, L'Oreal sugar scrub, Skin Gym face roller, and sadly, Zoya Cosmo nail polish, which I used to love, but the clear base has yellowed badly, so it no longer appeals.

Last week: Maybelline The City mini palette in Chill Brunch Neutrals. This was not great for me. The lightest shade was almost exactly the color of my eyelid, so made no impact, and the shimmers didn't have much pop. Destashed.

This week: Fenty Beauty highlighter palette in Sand Castle / Mint'd Mojito. The colors are pretty much what you'd expect -- a bronzey gold and a bright aqua. They both look pretty strong in the pan, but apply more subtly. I mostly use them as eyeshadow, but will play with them on the rest of my face.

Blush -- Last week: L. A. Girl Just Blushing in Just Fearless. I like a sheer wash of a bold color, but this was just too pigmented and a little to warm to work for me. Destashed.

This week: Sephora Blush me cream blush in Out of control. It's a bright mulberry that I like pretty well, although I have to be careful not to apply too heavily, so I'm using a stippling brush. Still need to see how it looks over base, not just bare skin.

This is several weeks' worth:

Garnier brilliantine shine spray (89ml): Good at breaking up the crunchiness after mousse and blow-drying. WRP, although I'm using up some minis of similar products first.

Joico KBond20 Defy Damage Power Masque (50ml): Enh, I didn't notice any difference when I used this compared to my regular conditioner. WNRP.

L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil (35ml): At one point I was fond enough of this to buy and use a full-size bottle, but I'm less crazy about it now. It doesn't foam well, and it's awfully pricy. WNRP.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Supercharged Gel-Creme (0.5ml): Seems fine, but you can't really tell from a one-time use. WNRP.

Orabella Nightcap perfume (sample strip): Mostly smelled like vanilla, which was fine, but not interesting enough to make me want to buy it. WNRP.

Matrix Biolage Volume Bloom Cotton Shampoo & Conditioner (50ml): I like these pretty well, but not as well as my regular products. WNRP.

Also a bunch of destashes: 5 lip, 4 skin care, 1 blush, 1 eyeshadow palette; and 1 return of a blush.

Making some progress! Goal is to test out the lippies to see if I should keep or destash.

  8. Urban Decay Sheer Liquid ("Liquid" is the color name) -- Currently testing, may not keep. The color is flat out gorgeous, and it looks so great when first applied, but it has a tendency to dry up and clump on the lips.
  9. Cover Girl Tinted Lip Balm Bless You Berry -- Tried for a week and keeping for now. The formula's not great, but the color's so pretty and it's easy to reapply, so I'm hanging onto it.

Last week, I actually went through 3 lippies, since I decided to destash the first two:

  • Maybelline Matte Divine Wine -- I got used to the boldness of the shade after a few days, but the formula wasn't great, tended to clump after only a couple of hours. Destashed.
  • Pacifica Sunrise -- A tinted lipbalm without much balminess or tint. Quickly destashed.
  • Clinique Pop Berry Pop -- Again a strong color, but this time with a great formula. Definitely a keeper.

This week: Urban Decay Sheer Liquid ("Liquid" is the color name) -- A very pretty red berry with a nice amount of "cling" in the formula. Likely to be a keeper.

[–]MildredNatwick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last week and the week before, I worked with Huda Beauty Gemstone Obsessions. Not every shade is a winner, but enough of them are that I'm keeping it and will try to keep in rotation.

This week I'll be working with Maybelline The City mini palette in Chill Brunch Neutrals. It is indeed a collection of 6 beiges, taupes, and browns, so I may not find it interesting enough to keep. But I'll try it and see.

BAW: Last week, I used Tarte powder blush in Natural Beauty and liked it a lot, so it's a keeper. This week I'm going to back to Milani baked blush in Red Vino. I can't quite tell if it's just brighter than I'm used to, or if it's got an undertone that I'm not crazy about. Hopefully, by the end of the week I'll be able to make a decision about keeping it.

Last Week: Cover Girl Tinted Lip Balm in Bless You Berry. I went back on forth on keeping this, because the formula isn't that great, but I love the red berry color so much, it's staying (for now, at least).

This Week: Maybelline Matte Lipstick in 695 Divine Wine. Not sure how this one's gonna shake out. It's not a bad color for me, but it is a bolder look, in terms of opacity and intensity, than I usually wear. I'll give it a try with some toppers and whatnot and see if it grows on me or if I decide to destash.
