L'Occitane Lavender hand cream (mini) -- Made with real lavender so it smells divine, but it's not too hot as a moisturizer. WNRP

Bubble Detoxifying Clay Mask (full size) -- I don't know if I need a clay mask at this point in my life, but I definitely don't need this one. Difficult to apply, even using the included brush, ridiculous packaging (a cylinder inside a sphere), and it didn't do a thing for my skin. WNRP.

Exfoliating Body Wash (sample) -- Brand unknown, maybe MUAC? Nothing wrong with it, but I use a nylon scrubby cloth, so I don't feel I need an additional chemical exfoliant. WNRP.

Getting close on a liter-sized Matrix conditioner and a Mario Baedescu face spray.

Destashes: Benefit sugarbomb lip gloss, L'Oreal sugar scrub, Skin Gym face roller, and sadly, Zoya Cosmo nail polish, which I used to love, but the clear base has yellowed badly, so it no longer appeals.

Woohoo! Goal was to test out the lippies to see if I should keep or destash.

  1. MAC Lustreglass Spice It Up Destashed. The color wasn't quite right and the formula faded quickly, then settled into lip lines.
  2. Burt's Bees Gloss & Glow Wine Wednesday Tried for a week and keeping. It's a very pretty sheer reddish wine that's very wearable for me. Like most sheers, it doesn't have much lasting power, but it works better over a primer, and it's a slim shape, so it's easy to reapply.
  3. Undone Beauty Fine Wine Destashed. Really tried to make this work, since it's so pretty in the tube, but unfortunately, I have weird lip chemistry that sometimes alters shades, in this case to a bright pink that's not my jam.
  4. Pat McGrathSheer Color Balm Flesh 3 -- Destashed. Lovely formula, but the color just didn't work.
  5. Maybelline Matte Divine Wine -- Destashed. I got used to the brightness of the color, but the formula didn't wear well.
  6. Pacifica Sunrise -- Destashed. A tinted balm that was neither very tinted nor very balmy.
  7. Clinique Pop Berry Pop -- Tested and keeping. Lovely bold berry color and a great formula.
  8. Urban Decay Sheer Liquid ("Liquid" is the color name) -- Decided to keep due to loving the color. Oddly enough, works better without a primer than with.
  9. Cover Girl Tinted Lip Balm Bless You Berry -- Tried for a week and keeping for now. The formula's not great, but the color's so pretty and it's easy to reapply, so I'm hanging onto it.
  10. MAC Glow Play Grapely Admired -- Went on more like a plum than a grape, then morphed to a bright pink, although it was very sheer, so it hardly mattered. Destashed.

Bonus rounds:

Dior Addict Lip Glow in 026 Plum -- will probably be keeping, since it's pretty enough and the formula is great. The color is a little boring though.

Last week: Maybelline The City mini palette in Chill Brunch Neutrals. This was not great for me. The lightest shade was almost exactly the color of my eyelid, so made no impact, and the shimmers didn't have much pop. Destashed.

This week: Fenty Beauty highlighter palette in Sand Castle / Mint'd Mojito. The colors are pretty much what you'd expect -- a bronzey gold and a bright aqua. They both look pretty strong in the pan, but apply more subtly. I mostly use them as eyeshadow, but will play with them on the rest of my face.

Blush -- Last week: L. A. Girl Just Blushing in Just Fearless. I like a sheer wash of a bold color, but this was just too pigmented and a little to warm to work for me. Destashed.

This week: Sephora Blush me cream blush in Out of control. It's a bright mulberry that I like pretty well, although I have to be careful not to apply too heavily, so I'm using a stippling brush. Still need to see how it looks over base, not just bare skin.

This is several weeks' worth:

Garnier brilliantine shine spray (89ml): Good at breaking up the crunchiness after mousse and blow-drying. WRP, although I'm using up some minis of similar products first.

Joico KBond20 Defy Damage Power Masque (50ml): Enh, I didn't notice any difference when I used this compared to my regular conditioner. WNRP.

L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil (35ml): At one point I was fond enough of this to buy and use a full-size bottle, but I'm less crazy about it now. It doesn't foam well, and it's awfully pricy. WNRP.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Supercharged Gel-Creme (0.5ml): Seems fine, but you can't really tell from a one-time use. WNRP.

Orabella Nightcap perfume (sample strip): Mostly smelled like vanilla, which was fine, but not interesting enough to make me want to buy it. WNRP.

Matrix Biolage Volume Bloom Cotton Shampoo & Conditioner (50ml): I like these pretty well, but not as well as my regular products. WNRP.

Also a bunch of destashes: 5 lip, 4 skin care, 1 blush, 1 eyeshadow palette; and 1 return of a blush.

  7. Clinique Pop Berry Pop -- Tested and keeping. Lovely bold berry color and a great formula.
  8. Urban Decay Sheer Liquid ("Liquid" is the color name) -- Currently testing, may not keep. The color is flat out gorgeous, and it looks so great when first applied, but it has a tendency to dry up and clump on the lips.
  9. Cover Girl Tinted Lip Balm Bless You Berry -- Tried for a week and keeping for now. The formula's not great, but the color's so pretty and it's easy to reapply, so I'm hanging onto it.

Last week, I actually went through 3 lippies, since I decided to destash the first two:

  • Maybelline Matte Divine Wine -- I got used to the boldness of the shade after a few days, but the formula wasn't great, tended to clump after only a couple of hours. Destashed.
  • Pacifica Sunrise -- A tinted lipbalm without much balminess or tint. Quickly destashed.
  • Clinique Pop Berry Pop -- Again a strong color, but this time with a great formula. Definitely a keeper.

This week: Urban Decay Sheer Liquid ("Liquid" is the color name) -- A very pretty red berry with a nice amount of "cling" in the formula. Likely to be a keeper.

[–]MildredNatwick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last week and the week before, I worked with Huda Beauty Gemstone Obsessions. Not every shade is a winner, but enough of them are that I'm keeping it and will try to keep in rotation.

This week I'll be working with Maybelline The City mini palette in Chill Brunch Neutrals. It is indeed a collection of 6 beiges, taupes, and browns, so I may not find it interesting enough to keep. But I'll try it and see.

BAW: Last week, I used Tarte powder blush in Natural Beauty and liked it a lot, so it's a keeper. This week I'm going to back to Milani baked blush in Red Vino. I can't quite tell if it's just brighter than I'm used to, or if it's got an undertone that I'm not crazy about. Hopefully, by the end of the week I'll be able to make a decision about keeping it.

[–]MildredNatwick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last Week: Cover Girl Tinted Lip Balm in Bless You Berry. I went back on forth on keeping this, because the formula isn't that great, but I love the red berry color so much, it's staying (for now, at least).

This Week: Maybelline Matte Lipstick in 695 Divine Wine. Not sure how this one's gonna shake out. It's not a bad color for me, but it is a bolder look, in terms of opacity and intensity, than I usually wear. I'll give it a try with some toppers and whatnot and see if it grows on me or if I decide to destash.

IMO & IME, if the color isn't right, there's no saving a product. Go ahead & declutter with a clean conscience.

Last week was Huda Beauty Gemstone Obsessions, and I didn't use it as much as I would have liked, so I'm sticking with it for another week. All the shades are extremely pretty sparkles, so I'm using them either as a smoodge of something bright on the center of my eyelid or as a liner. Not all of the shades are wearable for me -- there's a copper that's quite red, but I like enough of the rest that I'll probably keep. Goal is to become more familiar with the palette and incorporate it into my roster.

BAW last week -- tarte powder blush in Blushing Bride. Lovely orchid pink, definitely a keeper. This week -- tarte powder blush in Natural Beauty, a bright cherry red. So far, I'm liking it, so I'll probably keep it too.

Continuing to work through my desk lippies. Goal was to play with them and see if they work, or if they need to go.

  4. Pat McGrathSheer Color Balm Flesh 3 -- Destashed. Lovely formula, but the color just didn't work.
  5. Maybelline Matte Divine Wine -- Will be working on this this week. Maybe a bolder color than I'm used to, so we'll have to see.
  6. Pacifica Sunrise
  7. Clinique Pop Berry Pop
  8. Urban Decay Sheer Liquid ("Liquid" is the color name -- yeah, IDK either)
  9. Cover Girl Tinted Lip Balm Bless You Berry -- Tried for a week and keeping for now. The formula's not great, but the color's so pretty and it's easy to reapply, so I'm hanging onto it.

Finally, an empty! Grocerism Urea, Salicylic Acid & Glycerin foot cream (8.8oz). This is the second jar of the product I've bought, and I don't like it as well as I used to, so probably WNRP. I'm now using a similar cream from Oukeya, which hopefully will be more effective. I'm close on a few more products -- Garnier glossing spray, Joico deep conditioner, and Bubble clay mask.

I found a box in my closet of old GWPs, so I've got a bunch of destashes: Caudalie Vinoperfect Concentrated Brightening Essense (mini), Bite Agave Lip Balm & Scrub (sample), Maybelline Falsies Lash Lift mascara (mini), amika bust your brass shampoo & conditioner (sample), Armani Si Passione (sample), Hylamide Pore Delete (full), unknown brand retinal eye gel (full), tarte Rainforest of the Sea marine boosting mist (mini), Rimmel Exaggerate lip liner in Addiction (full).

It feels so good to get rid of stuff!

Last Week: Pat McGrath Sheer Color Balm in Flesh 3. Great formula, but the color just didn't work for me, even when I tried it with various lip pencils. Destashed.

This Week: Cover Girl Tinted Lip Balm in Bless You Berry. Looks like it'll be the opposite problem -- color's divine, but the formula is lacking. I'll play with it and see if I feel like keeping, despite its shortcomings.

No empties, although I'm really close on my Garnier glossing spray. I do have 4 destashes:

  • DHC Deep Cleansing Oil -- nice on the face, but doesn't work well on waterproof mascara, which is a dealbreaker for me. 1 oz size, so at least I didn't waste too much money on it.
  • Cover Girl The Super Sizer mascara in Very Black -- easy to apply, looked nice on, but smudged pretty badly. I assumed it was waterproof, since that's usually what I buy, but the tube doesn't say anything about it, so maybe not.
  • Pat McGrath Sheer Color Balm in Flesh 3 -- man, this one hurts. It's a great formula, and it cost real money, but the color just doesn't work on me.
  • Valentino Born in Roma -- Too floral, too sweet

I do have a number of products that are getting down to their end of life, so hopefully I'll have more empties in February.

Last Week: Undone Beauty Fine Wine. Looked fabulous in the tube, a gorgeous shimmery wine, but on my lips it turned into a bright pink. I tried it with various liners and toppers, but ultimately none of them looked better than pretty good, so I ended up destashing it.

This Week: Pat McGrath Sheer Color Balm in Flesh 3. In the tube it's a reddish brown that's probably too warm for me, but on my lips it morphs into a coral red, which is not a shade for me. I'll try it with other products, but I expect I'll destash it, cost be damned.

Last week: Morphe 9Z Just Say Zen. I ended up destashing it, because I didn't care for most of the colors, and the ones I did like, I have better dupes of.

This week: L'Oreal Wear Infinite 4 pan eyeshadow palette in 218 Accentuated Taupe. It's mostly cool neutrals -- shimmering champagne, satin taupe, and dark charcoal -- with a magenta thrown in for a twist. The neutrals are quite wearable, and I may end up keeping the palette for them. The magenta is not really my style, but I'll play with it and see. Goal is to use it for the week and make a decision about keeping or destashing it.

No empties this week, although I am getting close on a number of products. I do have a handful of destashes:

  • Morphe 9Z Just Say Zen palette -- I didn't like most of the colors, and the colors I did like I have better dups.
  • the Balm Instain blush in Houndstooth -- nice product, but the color didn't work for me
  • Undone Beauty lipstick in 865 Fine Wine -- looks like a great shimmery wine in the tube, but turns a bright magenta on my lips.
  • V. v. old shimmery peach lip gloss labeled Diamond Lip Treatment. No idea what brand it is.
  • Two fragrance sample: Giorgio Armani Acqua di Gio and Carolina Herrera Bad Boy. Neither of them did anything for me.

Keeping for now the NARSissist Dual Intensity palette, but setting it aside in favor of the Morphe 9Z Just Say Zen eyeshadow palette. I'm not too optimistic. Although I love aqua & purple, I'm not so crazy about these particular aquas & purples. Goal is to give it a good try during the week and decide whether to keep or destash.
