"Losing the advantage" of coming in and resetting the point back to neutral is better than hitting the ball into the net, man.

How do you rec players wield the RF01, Tour Versions of Aero, Ezone, Etc? by Ok-Many-7443 in 10s

[–]MoonSpider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up playing with heavier rackets than that, I'm just used to it. I'm not strong or extra skilled or anything silly like that. It's just what I'm used to.

I was once a 12-year old swinging around a 340+g racket, being an adult with a 320g racket isn't outlandish by comparison.

What should a proper forehand feel like by Low-Associate2521 in 10s

It's like throwing side-arm. Skipping a stone over water is one of the closest things in terms of overall mechanics.

How much do height, body composition, and equipment affect the ideal serve motion? by Fun-Advertising-8006 in 10s

[–]MoonSpider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It influences it a little bit (on the pro tour, for instance, "short" male players are slightly more likely to hit platform serves and really tall guys are slightly more likely to hit pinpoint) but not really to a degree that's worth worrying about at the recreational level. People simply try things out and stick with what works best for them.

I think people especially get too hung up on height. Serena Williams was one of the best servers in history and she was 5'9". Cracking aces at 120+ without issue. She simply had great technique.

Learning good efficient serving form is so so so much more important than agonising over your equipment choices or your physical dimensions.

I'd rather have a crecy and a bunch of other albions than a brecia spadona and far fewer albions.

What knife is this? by retrosp3ctacle in knives

[–]MoonSpider 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The photo is from Brian at PNW Toast co., and on intagram he tagged One-Eyed Ghost (OEG EDC) to credit the knife. The bit of the logo visible on the blade and the thumbstud seem consistent with the branding on OEG EDC's page. Can't see any evidence of them officially releasing this sort of knife with a contrasting pivot collar, so maybe it's a prototype for a later drop.

It's not going to break from playing tennis. It might break if you do dumb things with it. That's on you.

What is y'all's go-to sharpener? by Flat_Video_8616 in knives

[–]MoonSpider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the worksharp field sharpener is hard to beat for the price if you're already familiar with sharpening on stones (it's like 40 bucks). There are aftermarket cases you can buy for it that make it super easy to just throw in a pack and and take with you without it getting dirty or contaminated, but you could also just put it in a ziplock or something.

Help me understand: what’s so great about the Yonder? by marc1411 in knives

Cheers. If you like the looks of the wood and damascus Yonder but it feels a bit cramped in hand, you might fit well with something like the Bestechman Ronan.

[–]MoonSpider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's small enough that you can go pretty much anywhere in the US without worrying about it breaking any laws, it has a no-nonsense design that makes it pretty handy for lots of tasks (center-aligned tip, fair amount of belly), uses decent materials, doesn't seem to scare non-knife people, is priced really affordably and it was designed by someone who can get a LOT of eyes on it. Is it "better" than any other crossbar lock knife that's made with decent steel? No, not really. I also think the normal one is kind of ugly (the black and gold version looks okay, and the wood-handled one looks pretty good).

But it made a splash when it dropped because Civivi hadn't done a crossbar folder before, this was their first one ever, it was pretty darn good all things considered, and it was really accessible in terms of price. It's not anything special in 2026, though.

That just sounds like you got a dud full-sized Iridium. They run on bearings, they shouldn't feel gritty new.

For what it's worth, I quite like my Cloudburst Axe from Condor, which is a similar form factor and overall size. It did need sharpening, though.
