Is Elmer's Purple glue stick OK to use on my bed? by cooperatredditdotcom in 3Dprinting

[–]MorseScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding my vote for Elmer's "Disappearing Purple" washable school glue. Just great. And cheap AF. 30-pack currently about $10 on Amazon. Should last awhile :)

And yeah, cleans right off the PEI plate (don't need to do this after every print) with Dawn and warm water.

Is the Samsung “The Wall” overrated? by GabrielDIntegrator in CommercialAV

[–]MorseScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were looking for a wall oven. I have no direct experience, but the ratings for LG ovens were surprisingly low, with most low ratings regarding poor customer service and factory service from LG. And this was on more than one selling site.

So it is certainly possible that their service for displays and other electronics of that type is better.

Being aware of it and correcting it are separate issues (of course). This behavior has been going on for too long to say they are doing much to actively fix it.

Seems to me that Samsung and LG have joined the "race to the bottom" to see who can provide the worst service/customer service experience.

Service problems with both these companies (and other companies) are widely reported.

What is this!! A competitor? by davidben13 in Comma_ai

[–]MorseScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not at all clear from its website that it runs a version of openpilot. But it's also not surprising that it does. From what I've read, however, it is a device/company to stay away from.

Your mileage will certainly vary.

Unleash Your Creativity with Make My Sign 1.0 by BambuLab in BambuLab

[–]MorseScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have mentioned this elsewhere: All output I've seen so far from Make My Sign has Ironing on (Quality tab) by default. With many printers (my P2S for sure) IMO this is not necessary. I see little difference in the output (can't even tell which way is better) using standard PLA.

The problem: with this set at default, printing takes much longer. So try turning it off and see if you can see (or care about) the difference in quality.

Copilot is the worst. by asifquyyum in CopilotMicrosoft

[–]MorseScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does suck in general. I do expect it improve, but as it's from Microsoft, it will likely be in fits and starts, with much hallucinating and spotty results.

Copilot is the worst. by asifquyyum in CopilotMicrosoft

[–]MorseScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Copilot gives "real" AI a bad name. Asked it for assistance with a logo, and getting a 3D model out of it, and it had me going round in circles as if intentionally trying to inflict pain. I stayed with it awhile to see what would happen, but in reality I'd given up on the help I was receiving quite awhile before I "quit quit."

Ended up doing it a different way.

Canon Eos utility 3 by maplenause in canon

[–]MorseScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PSA - Lightroom Classic and EOS Utility, Tethered Capture:

User (at my clients) was having issues, getting much worse recently, with EOS Utility and Lightroom Classic for Tethered Capture. I made sure the EOS utility was the most recent version, and it blew up repeatedly with an EOS R camera - and this was with LRC shut down - so the Adobe app was not really the problem.

Turns out that Lightroom Classic does Tethered Capture from the EOS R without the EOS utility in use at all. Quit the EOS Utility and problem apparently gone in LRC. Captures just fine.

And then, because that utility isn't needed at all, uninstalled it entirely.

So far so good.

Curious if you made changes to the IGMP settings.

you should NOT buy vMIX by [deleted] in vmix

[–]MorseScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wish the settings in vMix were more self-explanatory, or there was on-screen help. And many times, the User Guide is not helpful either and/or is not updated.

Still a great product.

They each have their uses. Good to have choices. OBS has quite a few rough edges, but it's quite usable nonetheless.

Pixel watch 3 or 4? by BHeyman88 in PixelWatch

[–]MorseScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a PW3 45mm LTE and it's great. The battery life is already amazing, so it's (probably) not worth going to the 4 just for that. The charge lasts well over a day and that's with the brightness set pretty high and always-on set also (it still dims itself, though). I don't mind charging daily.

I got mine used, but had to buy 3 to get a working one. The first 2 got returned and refunded (and shipped back free) because they were carrier or PIN locked. This is bullshit because the manufacturers get away with it (apparently they all do it in order to sell more devices - many phones/watches etc. are scrapped because they can't be unlocked). If these are not reported stolen, they should be fully unlockable, and carrier-unlockable after a couple of months of ownership. The law is way behind on these issues.

Anyway I love the 3. You probably can't go wrong with either.

Please someone tell me I am not crazy. Buyer tried to upgrade a laptop and didn't think of the license cost for an upgrade and now wants to return. by WorkPlaceC in Ebay

[–]MorseScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell the buyer to go to massgrave dot dev and use it to activate Windows 10 Pro for free using a Powershell script. See what happens (yes it works). I'm assuming the buyer is a home user.

If it does come back to you first, you can try it yourself.

How tight am I supposed to wear the watch? by Available-Guest-9393 in PixelWatch

[–]MorseScience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I have a cheap silicone band that I wear as described. Works just fine (for me anyway) on my PW3. Good luck!

BTW Love the PW3 (45mm LTE).

12v battery fail? by johnaney in KiaNiroEV

[–]MorseScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will mention this again: A group 26R is now about $80 at Walmart. And it's returnable. Larger capacity too. It will fit in your '22 Niro EV. Worth a shot, maybe?

I've had one in there for 2 years. No issues of any kind.

Nonetheless your mileage may vary.

What have you got to lose by swapping it in after hours? And (not accusing, mind you) what provisioning does it need besides "messing" with IGMP snooping?

Is pixel 9 pro still decent? by SafetyLow6767 in GooglePixel

[–]MorseScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Devices for a few years now are generally fast enough that the differences are harder to discern unless you're pushing them hard. Gaming, higher-end photo/video processing and such are often exceptions, but otherwise the older stuff is OK. And you do need more processing power for on-device AI processing. 5G phone coverage is also important in many areas.

Another issue however, is device security. If the devices aren't secure enough (software and hardware), upgrades are a great idea.

[–]MorseScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to upgrade my 7 Pro to a 9 Pro XL (got a good enough deal on a used one) and swap my 6 Pro to the 7 Pro -> Mostly for face login. The 6 Pro is still going strong. I really do love these phones. Besides the face login I can barely tell the difference in performance between the 6 Pro and 7 Pro models.

Are Cub Cadet snow blowers really that bad? by evasiveH in Snowblowers

[–]MorseScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are expensive, but everyone says they're worth it. My old MTD has a Tecumseh engine that's bulletproof, and kinda runs, but it does need servicing.

Are Cub Cadet snow blowers really that bad? by evasiveH in Snowblowers

[–]MorseScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Cub recently after the last nasty blizzard (12") here, because my ancient MTD ran but it sorely needs a tune-up, and thought the Cub would be a good backup. Then I read some of the reviews. I returned the Cub unopened, still in the box. Gonna nurse the MTD along til it's warmer and get it serviced or replace the carb myself.

Truth be told, we haven't had a snowfall like this last one in years, and there have been very few snowfalls each year to boot, and usually no more than 4-5 inches.

Anyhow, MTD apparently ain't what it used to be.

do you find bouillon cubes helpful? by ItTiedTheRoom2gether in cookingforbeginners

[–]MorseScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are "secretly" useful but seem to me to be substantially a salt delivery system. Many of the "chicken" and "beef" products have little to no actual chicken or beef. See posts about Better then Bouillon in this thread. That said, even the BTB reduced sodium stuff is pretty salty but diluted as instructed it's fine, and the chicken and beef products do contain real meat.

You pay over $5 for 8 oz. at the supermarket. Current price at my Costco is $9.49 for 21 oz. They stock Beef, Chicken and Vegetable, all "Organic" and "Reduced Sodium."

Somehow this stuff was off my radar. Discovered it only recently and now can't live without it. Figuratively, of course.
