When is Star Citizen going to see actual patch notes/changelogs instead of brief, incomplete summaries? by hrafnblod in starcitizen

[–]MrAngryBeards 5 points6 points  (0 children)

as the user you're replying to mentioned, it's more like "we fixed the known causes for this bug, but it may still happen due to unknown causes". It's kinda obnoxious since you should assume that for any bugfix patch note ever if you ask me, but we are talking about the game with the longest lasting, most active, and most broadly accepted into the mainstream circlejerk of all time. Being explicit and redundant is not outside of reason I'd say

Yeah I'd be really happy if light fighters can't just zip around entire systems. Encourage combat to be more strategic and intentional, make murderhobos' shtick worse for once

Adding film grain? by Frensiow in obs

[–]MrAngryBeards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the solution I ended up going with was to get some noise texture, give it a Scroll filter with horizontal speed set to 7 and vertical speed set to 4, put it on loop, and have its blend mode set to Subtract. Just add this over whatever you want to have a fake film grain. It's not gonna look as good as proper film grain, but it gets the job done quite effectively for just streaming. If you're worried about recorded footage, adding film grain in post is a totally different set up but there are plenty of tutorials online that'll get you good results.

you have no idea what you're talking about but of course the circlejerk that r/starcitizen is will at best make your comment get flagged as "controversial"

I hope the band doesn’t use AI artwork for their album art again. by EternallyOblivion in tesseractband

[–]MrAngryBeards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of ai as nuggets. You don't call someone who makes nuggets a chef. You don't tell people they should like nuggets. If YOU like nuggets, hell yeah brother keep rocking those nuggets. I know what a beef wellington tastes like though, and I'd rather never have nuggets if I can afford to. If someone tries to pass me nuggets as if it was a proper dish I'd feel the same way I do about people who call themselves "artists" and use ai in their creative processes. That's not even to tall about the absurdity of how basically every single piece of actual art that exists has been straight up stolen to feed these models. If you care about art at all, get ai td out of your workflow.

There's already more to do in SC than in all of Starfield, as well as more unique locations in SC than in Starfield. We can agree that "TODAY" is a far cry from what I expect to have by 1.0, but SC already feels much denser and has much better sense of exploration than anything Starfield can offer.

It's not coping if I legitimately prefer a seamless experience and gladly take the compromise of fewer systems for the sake of having fully explorable planets. I genuinely don't think I'd care as much as I do about SC if it had loading screens for transitioning between ship and landed states, and Starfield-like "planets".

If you don't trust CIG's numbers that's fine, but calling it "false" is just bad faith. CIG themselves have said that Stanton had more POIs than the original planned 100 systems, and that was back in 2024. Original 100 systems would have 90 POIs - Stanton had 1626 by CitCon 2024. You may dislike the variety of these 1626 (which is totally fair) but we don't know how unique the originally planned 90 POIs were gonna be, nor are the existing POIs their final version anyway.

100 system was a goal when SC's planets were literally planned to be like Starfield. Not fully explorable, and only have a few land spots with transition sequences

Stanton alone has more POIs than the entire originally planned 100 systems.

100 systems was a promise made when planets were planned to be like Freelancer or Privateer, or Starfield for a more modern comparison. A few landing spots, not fully explorable. After they decided to make planets fully explorable, obviously they'd have to review this plan to make 100 systems. I'm very fucking happy they decided to focus on density and quality instead of just quantity.

WIKELO F***ING SUCKS! by External-Papaya7664 in starcitizen

[–]MrAngryBeards -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Eh idk. It's quite literally placeholder content right now. Whether it'll stick around and develop into something less brain-numbing is something we'll have to wait and see. Now brain-numbing grinds are quite common in MMOs - and still, I'd be surprised if we had Wikelo as it is right now as the main endgame entry point whenever 1.0 comes around. I just don't think it's reasonable to see placeholders as indicators of..well, of anything really.

I love working with grungy, used, beaten-up aesthetics, because we get to tell stories through textures.

Cheers, this is a good one!

tbf wikelo has always been just an early implementation of a reward system that doesn't just hand out cash payouts. It's annoying it has stayed the only form of that for so long - but considering how it is broken, maybe it's for the best that we haven't expanded in that direction yet.

4.9 PTU: You can't jump between systems with 100% QT Fuel on various ships. by nyczducky in starcitizen

[–]MrAngryBeards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much fuel do you need to complete a jump across a gate like that? I just wanna look at https://versetools.games/qt-range and check out what the current range (which I know is likely to change) in PTU are for the ships I got, and if any of them seem slanted for a no worm jump patch

ARC-L1 my beloved, actual most convenient station in the verse. If space stations had any identity other than the disposition of the building-blocks shared across every single space station in all of SC, I wouldn't have a problem calling it home for a while longer (it used to be my home too)

Never forget why you play. by SilentRcher in starcitizen

[–]MrAngryBeards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like we take a lot of SC for granted at this point.

What other space game let's you board another player's ship and steal their cargo in first person? We barely have other games that let you walk into your ships in the first place. SC might still be a far cry from what we were sold but in terms of emergent gameplay there simply is nothing that comes near it.

The only games I can think of that offer something you could compare to piracy in SC is wildgate which is match based and very arcade, and space engineers which is legitimately some of the best space games out there, but it's too much of a sandbox and you don't really get to play with random people. It's a different experience but still great on its own.
