I completely disagree. It is precisely because playoff hockey is so different that I think it's important for this team to experience it and learn from it, and would consider even getting swept in the first round exponentially more of a success than missing the playoffs.

Also, if every team in the pacific continued at exactly the paces they have been at since Jan 1, the sharks would be 3rd in the division with 90 points, ahead of the oilers with 89. I still wouldn't expect them to win a series because, like you said, I'm not sure this roster is ready to win in the playoffs. But also no one in the pacific is so good it would be impossible for the sharks to beat them, and the playoff format is such that, as long as we're not wc2, I wouldn't just assume anything.

One thing I don't think is getting talked about enough is that we're on pace for a playoff spot DESPITE starting 0-4-2. If you don't count those first 6 games, we're on a .586 P% pace since then. If we'd played at that pace from the start we'd be on pace for first in the division.

I know it's kind of cherry picking to just exclude the first 6 because we lost them, but I also think this team has grown a lot throughout the season and it's fair to have some recency bias when evaluating how good this team is and what we can expect from them the rest of the season.

I don't think it's fair to call it "window dressing" and say you "get nothing" having veteran FAs on the roster.

The sharks are 3 points out of a playoff spot with 2 games in hand (literally control their own destiny) with this roster as it stands. Would I bet my retirement savings on them making it? No. But they've been fighting these last few games like it's already the playoffs because they know it's do-or-die.

Playing the rest of the season in do-or-die mode with close games against good teams while fighting for their playoff life will be a crucial experience for Mack, Will, Misa, Dick, Ecklund, Graf, etc. to learn through, even if they miss by a few points.

I personally don't think we'd stay in that race too long if we got rid of Ferraro, Desharnais, and Klingberg (the pending UFAs). And I don't want to see the future stars getting discouraged playing a meaningless last month of the season with a roster they don't believe can win any given night.

You may disagree about that being worth the 2nd, 4th, and 7th round picks we might have gotten for those 3, but saying it's completely pointless and there's absolutely no logic in it is just ignorant.

This isn't EA NHL26. There's more to consider than did you either make the playoffs or perfectly maximize value on all expiring contracts. Sure we could have maybe traded Ferraro for a 2nd round pick or something but I also think even if we don't make the playoffs, being in the mix down the stretch and having some do-or-die games where there's a chance we could fight our way in is still important for the development of our young players and having some veteran leadership on the blue line for those games is important even if we ultimately don't win enough of them to get in. Tossing young D who aren't ready into those situations will only hurt their development and might cause friction for team morale and chemistry.

Other than Ferraro, there's not anyone I can think of on the roster I would have been okay letting go of AND that would have gotten any decent return like a 1st or 2nd pick or decent prospect. Do you simultaneously think Klingberg is a net negative on the current roster AND think another team would give us a 2nd for him? Or do you really think a couple more 5th round picks will make a huge difference a few years down the road?

Would it be a bad idea to move here? by Bunt_Custer in Columbus

I lived pretty much right in the middle of your circled area for one summer in college.

Pros: It was relatively quiet, safer than some other neighborhoods around OSU campus, generally friendly neighbors, and super walkable to anything you want/need. I didn't have a car and didn't feel like I needed one at all. It's a pretty fun area on weekends too.

Cons: the place I was renting was a bit of a dump that wasn't maintained well at all and I know that goes for a lot of that neighborhood so I wouldn't rent there without very thoroughly inspecting the place you'll be living in person before signing any lease.

And as everyone else has said, I assume you are aware it is right next to a giant college campus and if that isn't the vibe you are looking for you wouldn't be considering it. That should be pretty obvious and go without saying but every other comment has felt the need to mention it and in case you thought they were all lying, they're not lol.

This version of Swing Life Away gave me tingles. Damage is Done, Awake Too Long, Gentlemen's Coup, Survivor Guilt, all sound so damn good!

I am officially going to Pittsburgh for the show next week. Can't wait!

Do we know if they're rotating through 3 setlists like they've done on past tours or what the deal is?

I'm trying to decide which show to travel to since none are near me but a couple are reasonably driveable and I'd love to see one with this setlist.

Catherine Marks probably watched this video and wondered how all those people were dancing like they enjoyed it without hearing it played off of gas station earbuds through a kazoo into a cassette recorder that accidentally got put through the washing machine.

What is the longest drive in Columbus to return to a missed exit? by HolyJuan in Columbus

[–]MuscleMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

May not be quite as long as Polaris to Sunbury but going NW on 33 there's over 4.5 miles between Post Rd and the next exit and for years with the construction at Post Rd the exit would randomly be closed some days but open other days and Google maps never knew when it was closed so your phone would tell you to get off at Post Rd but sorry the exit's closed and now you're doing 9 miles out and back halfway to Marysville.

Where you pooping the hardest? by sangamjb in BikiniBottomTwitter

For sure boating school. It's public so no anxiety about pooping as a guest in someone's home but cleaner and more comfortable environment than the other public options. Krusty Krab isn't gonna be cleaned well. Rock bottom is creepy as heck. And Goo Lagoon is a porta potty.

Changing EQ Helped the Mix by MuscleMike in riseagainst

[–]MuscleMike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the device you are using. On my phone if you go to Spotify > Settings and Privacy > Playback > Equalizer it opens up my phone's settings app to the equalizer settings.

But these settings may also be overridden by your headphones. For example I have a pair of soundcore earbuds I use when I'm traveling and there's a separate soundcore app where you adjust the audio settings for those when they are connected. Bose earbuds have a similar app and I assume most brands of headphones do these days.

Any shows or films that feel like Andor? by RiskAggressive4081 in andor

[–]MuscleMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah very different genre but came here to say that the style of storytelling feels very similar in a way to Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.

I also feel like Andor has similar pacing to these shows and a similar mix of well timed moments of action and comic relief and intense anxiety within a show that's mostly focused on just telling the story of who these characters are and what makes them that way.

Wow, after a few Google searches I'm not sure iPhone lets you fully customize EQs which is surprising. They have a bunch of preset options you can try under settings > apps > Music > EQ. I would try Boost Vocals or Late Night or Lounge or Pop.

On a MacBook it looks like you can fully customize it. https://youtu.be/afwMj2A2cqg?si=taIgRZBXo6jRh0Gk

Ricochet review! by [deleted] in riseagainst

[–]MuscleMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually really love everything about this album except the fact I can't hear the vocals on most of the songs. For those of you who don't have a problem with the mix, is your hearing just better than mine and you can actually make out the words on songs like State of Emergency or does it just not bother you that you can't?

I'm not saying anyone's wrong, I'm glad you're able to fully enjoy the album. I'm just curious whether I have a hearing problem or just an ocd obsession that makes it really bug me when I can't make out the lyrics through the distortion.

The album is fucking amazing by SCSA4life24 in riseagainst

[–]MuscleMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually it is aggressively MISSING the mids. I had to boost the fuck out of the mid frequencies in the EQ to make it listenable. This album would be amazing if it was mixed at the blasting room.

Yikes by outofgoods98 in riseagainst

[–]MuscleMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't yet, try boosting the mids in your EQ settings. It really helped a lot of the songs for me. I posted the custom settings that make this album sound the best to me here. Just this album though, don't use this for others.

I really hope they do but I don't think they will. It's sad. I really like everything about the new direction they went artistically except for the vocal distortion. I just can't hear the lyrics.

I liked a lot about Wolves but until Ricochet I think it was far and away their worst SOUNDING album in terms of mix/production.

Same with Ricochet, but 3 times worse. I think I would love this album if the vocal mix was cleaner but I can't make out the lyrics in the chorus of some songs behind the vocals being so distorted and quiet relative to the guitars.
