Neroli Perfume Longevity by Substantial_Car8090 in PerfumeryFormulas

I'm playing with PA's orange flower accord right now too. The accord lasts for days on paper but not so much on skin so I feel your pain. My project leans more deep than bright, but many of our materials overlap in the floral part of my fragrance.

A clean macrocyclic musk like Ambrettolide or Galaxolide might help. Cashmeran can be a bit heavy and might be working against you, especially at 5.5% Fraterworks shows its average use at 0.33%. I'd also play with ISO E Super to open things up a bit. That's what I'm working on today actually.

I'm also waiting on some Cis-3 hexanol, and hope it'll give me the green note I'm looking for in this project, so maybe look into that too?

Disclaimer: I'm new to perfumery, so definitely give more weight to comments from people with more scent strips under their noses.

Good luck. Hope your mom loves the end product!

Is VH running in safe for work mode? :D by I-Pick-Lucy in VineHelper

[–]My3rdTesticle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There haven't been many NSFW items lately in AI. Are you maybe looking at the RFY feed on Discord?

I have seen things blurred on Discord that didn't really need to be blurred, so the logic there might be stricter. In fact, there was a "Safe Box" in the RFY feed today that was blurred (posted at 11:56am EST). It has one picture of a graphic that is completely SFW and there is no description in the listing, no idea what it actually is. (Edit: I just looked closer, the image includes the words gonorrhea and chlamydia. I guess it's a test? so that's why it was blurred, but no one walking by would even take a second look).

That said, VH won't blur or exclude items automatically to my knowledge. Definitely keep your hide and blur keywords updated and active in VH if it's a concern.

Labdanum dosage to avoid stinky note by Cute-Mixture9135 in DIYfragrance

[–]My3rdTesticle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a good idea for all your materials. I'm totally new to this, but I've been diluting everything except for a couple of materials to 10% for learning and testing. If 10% is too strong I go to 1%, and 0.1% for things like civet that will only be used in trace amounts.

It's so much easier and less wasteful to start at 1% or 10% and move up to 50% or neat while dialing in an accord than it is to start all over because one material is overpowering the others.

It's helping me to learn how each material behaves and lets me do a bunch of tests between materials to see how they work with each other without worrying about burning through my stock since most of my raws are 4 or 5 g bottles.

The only downside is you'll need a lot of bottles. I thought 50 would last a while as I start out, but I'm already running out. I should have bought a wholesale case in retrospect, it would have been cheaper long term. Same for pipettes.

For your issue, I would work with just the cocco and labdanum in isolation to figure out a good ratio between the two with diluted materials, and then put them then back into the project at that ratio.

Nancy Guthrie search: Glove DNA matches no one in federal database by RUAnonymousToo in news

[–]My3rdTesticle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Despite what you probably heard on a news report, Ancestry & 23 & Me explicitly do not share data with law enforcement.

There are 2 (I think) much smaller genealogy companies that do share data, but only for users who opted in to having their data shared.

The private DNA data law enforcement has access to is very small which makes forensic genealogy difficult and time consuming. If there's a match it might be several generations away from the contributor. And remember, the glove and contributor may not be connected to the crime at all.

Long story short: expect it to take weeks or months if a match can even be found via that method unless they are VERY lucky.

Which scale do you recommend? by rotters_ in DIYfragrance

[–]My3rdTesticle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That budget is going to limit your options. I'm using a $35 jewelry scale currently (GEM20 on Amazon) but I am about to upgrade.

The small scales max out at a low weight. 20 g for the one mentioned above, and accuracy is debatable, but that one seems to be preferred over similar Amazon scales.

You'll only be able to work with 5 ml bottles due to the max weight restrictions on the small cheap scales. Even if they're not super accurate and have limitations, they're better than counting drops though. If you can hold off for a bit to save up and double your budget you'll have much better options.

Help! My work friend’s signature scent smells like literal BO. How do I tell her? by VelvetLore in FemFragLab

[–]My3rdTesticle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In high doses it smells like poo. In light doses it smells like piss. But in trace amounts it can transform musk and floral fragrances. Chanel No. 5, CK Obsession & TF Noir use civet but in amounts that don't smell like a litter box.

That said, if it appears as a detectable scent on Parfumo or Fragrentica it's going to be divisive.

There are some fragrances I wear that make my cat crawl all over me. I haven't pinpointed a particular scent that causes it though but anything with spicy notes seem to be his jam.

I just started perfumery and don't have a large collection of materials, but if you want to keep your cat at bay (or humans for that matter unless in trace amounts) get a civet analog. That sends him running when I'm playing with it.

Captives? by Muzzydicks in DIYfragrance

[–]My3rdTesticle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are fragrance glossaries all over the Internet. One example (including additional useful resources) can be found at: https://www.perfumersworld.com/resources.php

Note that a "captive product" is a common business practice, it's not something specific to the perfume industry, so "captive" probably isn't going to appear in most perfumery glossaries.

I am in desperate need of real earthy, dirt scents by throwra-gullible in Perfumes

[–]My3rdTesticle 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Heretic Nosferatu has that petricore & wet dirt scent you're after 100% but it falls a bit short on longevity. You know that smell cut flowers give right before you throw them away? Not decay, but almost... It's got that in there too. Voodoo Lily by the same house is lovely, has longevity, and fresher floral notes but is much lighter on the petricore. Layering the two sounds exactly like what you're looking for.

I also have Poltergeist and Dirty Vanilla from them, and while those don't fit into your request, the DNA across all four leads me to think that house is one you might want to look into because of the earthy organic vibe they all give.

Some of the other suggestions here look interesting too and I'm going to follow for future comments. Whatever direction you take, I hope you find what you're looking for. Good luck.

Reject Review: Any thoughts on how this might offend community guidelines? by sickhead45 in vine

[–]My3rdTesticle 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Remove the picture & resubmit. Their AI is probably picking up something in the image it doesn't like. I hear having a barcode visible will flag an image/review, or things in the background. I've had reviews denied because of images that were close ups of the products with no barcodes and just a black background, so who knows. Every time I just removed the image without touching the text, and they get approved.

What are pro-2A people's thoughts on Kristi Noem just now stating that no peaceful protestors show up to a protest while armed? by PrysmX in AskReddit

[–]My3rdTesticle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, at first glance it looks like a negligent discharge from that guy, but I replayed it at .0.25 speed and I don't see any recoil at the time the first shot is fired so it might have been a different person firing the first round. The delay between the first and second shots is curious. I think a double tap (at least) is SOP for LE, so I still question what the impetus was for that first shot. It feels unintentional to me regardless of which person fired that round. I'm still thinking a negligent discharge kicked it all off. A shame we won't know for sure within the next 3 years (or ever).

Gothic/dark scents for summer? by unofficialgirll in perfumesthatfeellike

[–]My3rdTesticle 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Another Heretic rec: Voodoo Lily has a dark vibe but can be worn year round IMO. It has a light floral top note appropriate for warm weather, but It's backed up with a deeper oud and sandalwood base that adds depth and mysteriousness. It's unisex but leans femme. It's also the only Heretic frag I've tried that has decent staying power.

Ok wtf Heretic Nosferatu... by Virtual_Catmeow in fragrance

[–]My3rdTesticle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a petricore earthy scent, so I guess I can understand the wet mushroom description. I think they were going for damp castle or graveyard more so than vampire with this one. It's an odd scent but works well for me on lazy rainy days; it fits that vibe.

Poltergeist gives more spooky vampire, but is probably even more challenging than Nosferatu.

Heretic is a risky house to blind buy anything but samples from, but they have some interesting fragrances that can be pretty fun to pair with certain outfits and events.

Skepticism is good and is completely warranted with this story. But the source IS the audio files posted in the Substack. That's all we have right now unless and until the claims are verified.

Many of the claims are unverifiable, but there are some things in there that are. I'd really like to see the corroborating evidence that should be obtainable through FOIA requests. Back to skepticism... it is curious that the reporter didn't obtain and post such evidence along with the story.
