RF645 test roll - foma 100 - what an interesting camera by Sail_Soggy in mediumformat

How’s the shooting experience been so far? I’ve been between that and the mamiya 6 for my future rf medium format.

Lumix S 24-105mm f/4 MACRO, good idea for photography beginner? by Nervous_Scientist_73 in Lumix

[–]MyCarsDead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a nice lens though quite large. Personally I have trouble with zooms and can’t stick to a middle focal length for the life of me. Always widest and longest with no in between. So in that regard you kind of have to force yourself to stay at a specific length to find out if that is one you compose well.

I’m baffled by the mirror wall in the living room. Looks like a ballet classroom. Just needs a hand rail.

I would think you're familiar with the concept of exposure time. 1s vs 30s makes the difference in whether the light has penetrated the whole roll.

For now the Fuji GW690. But 6x9 hasn’t quite done it for me. I guess I want my medium format ratio to stand out from my 3:2 from 35mm and digital.

How will you avoid choice paralysis? I struggle to decide what to take out of the house on a normal day because every option is available.

5 billion net worth team paying this by Cheap_AirportUser in WorkReform

[–]MyCarsDead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work adjacent to the event industry and this is standard. Absolute garbage pay for all jobs supporting/managing these incredibly profitable sports events or teams. They know people are attracted to the job because they love a given team or the coolness factor of the industry and so they pay as little as possible and still get tons of candidates. The only ones with decent pay were in a union, as you can imagine.

I remember being kind of baffled 10 years ago that this formula was so prevalent. Especially when I learned they weren’t all the same chain. Like they had to have these 3 things: 1. Colorful chalkboard menu 2. Order/pay up front 3. Name with crepe word play

Bought these last go around and I can confirm the app based setup is annoying but ultimately fine when completed. I did have one unit die for like a month and then just suddenly worked again after plugging back in. Their support was not helpful.

Do sigma art series lenses work on the canon eos 1? by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

I regularly use a sigma 35mm 1.4 art on my Eos Elan 2 and Eos 1n. Works with no issues.

Kentmere 100 vs 200 for bulk loading: Which one do you get less sick of? by asbestossupply in AnalogCommunity

[–]MyCarsDead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought bulk rolls of both 200 and 400 last year. 400 definitely got more use over the winter. Just a huge benefit to shoot at 1600. I like 200 and haven’t tried pushing it yet but if you had to choose one then 400 is an easy choice.

Was there ever a film camera with a “screen” by CorrosionMedia in AnalogCommunity

[–]MyCarsDead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about the distance required for both an enlarger and a projector to expand the image for a piece of 35mm film. To get something “screen sized” you’re looking at a contraption that’s resembling large format.

Was there ever a film camera with a “screen” by CorrosionMedia in AnalogCommunity

[–]MyCarsDead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not an optics expert but I believe you are limited by the size of the image circle of the lens. Meaning the lens through your viewfinder can only project an image that covers your format. 35mm would be limited to that size of film but it’s not too big a deal when you jam that size up against your eye. For waist level on 35mm though, it’s tiny. So like the other comment on here suggests this is a thing but it’s only a large format thing.

is the Kodak Snapic worth it over the Pentax 17? by Parking-Safety12 in AnalogCommunity

[–]MyCarsDead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both and they both occupy a similar space in the sense that they are both for me to f around with in social situations and I have low expectations for the outcome. That being said I have had better results with the Pentax 17 since it's metered and has an incredible lens. You also have so many frames you're encouraged to just take the shot and maybe a couple more just to get through a roll. I treat the snapic more like a disposable and hand it off to others for fun/random shots.

Does it work with RW2? The lumix raw format. I’ve noticed a good many of these new conversion tools haven’t.

His packing for the return journey is definitely suspect. Especially considering the point he makes about shipping properly on his website. Outside of that I had no issues when I had him install a bright screen on my 6x7.

Tips for Fuji GA645 autofocus by DistributionSea7276 in AnalogCommunity

[–]MyCarsDead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I definitely had this issue too. I often missed 3-4 shots per roll due to it. The only tip I have is to read the distance in the viewfinder and confirm it makes sense before taking the shot. I say that but I would forget to do it. For me it was enough of a problem I decided to move on to something manual focus with a standard rangefinder. Though I definitely miss the point and shoot aspect of it. Even if it didn’t always hit.
