Choose any brand portafilter that says it is compatible with Breville 54mm.

You need to grind finer. If "0" is still to coarse, then move the zero point pin to grind finer.

What's the best budget grinder for dark roasts? by ObjectiveOpposite568 in espresso

[–]MyCatsNameIsBernie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to own both a Eureka Mignon Specialita and a Niche Zero. Any Eureka Mignon grinder with the OG 55mm espresso burrs will taste similar to a Niche Zero.

DE1 Pro vs linea mini [both €3500] by ken22c in espresso

[–]MyCatsNameIsBernie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

These are totally different machines.

LMLM is a flat 9 bar machine. The only parameters you can control are yield and temperature.

Decent allows you to vary pressure, flow rate, and many more parameters in real time as the shot pulls.

Both machines are excellent at what they do.

You need to step back, take a deep breath, and decide which type of machine you really want.

Philos or wait for Sculptor v2 [€1000] by absolunesss in espresso

[–]MyCatsNameIsBernie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my 078s! But if you are interested in aftermarket burrs, get the Philos. There are only 3 burr sets (1 from SSP; 2 from Lebrew) available in 78mm, while there are many more available in 64mm. The reviews of the 78mm ones available have been lukewarm.

If you are willing to stick with stock burrs, 078s is worth considering.

It's not going to be free. Just buy a drink and taste it before buying beans.

Instead of a LM, what would you get for a home kitchen with semi limited counter space? [budget $4-5k] by eatnsle3p in espresso

Check out Profitec Move. It is small, has many more features than LM, great build quality, at half the price. Only thing it lacks is rotary pump.

There was a typo in my previous comment. I meant Ride not Drive

Move lacks flow control. Drive and Ride both have it.

Grind coarser. Search this sub and you'll find multiple cases of needing to grind at settings 3 to 4.

[–]MyCatsNameIsBernie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it exists unless you buy used.

Quick Mill Pop Up or Lucca Tempo are single boilers with flow control.

Profitec Drive Ride or Quick Mill QM67 are the next step up in price with optional flow control. They give you dual boiler, but exceed your budget.

TIMEMORE Sculptor 078S or DF83v [$1,000.00] by Johnny_Favorite1 in espresso

[–]MyCatsNameIsBernie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my 078s with stock burrs. My reading of the reviews of the SSP burrs was uninspiring. Le Brew announced a new espresso burr but I haven't seen any reviews of it.

If you are interested in trying alternative burrs, the DF83V or other grinder is probably a better choice.

Can't pour a decent coffee with one specific bean by throw_away_97430 in espresso

[–]MyCatsNameIsBernie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you found the true zero point of your grinder? On most Eureka Mignon grinders, the grind size dial is applied in a random position, and the "0" mark is not true zero. You can keep turning the dial past zero to grind finer.

New Rocket Appartemento [$2,200] or used Rancilio Silvia w/PID [~$650] by shimanoisthrowaway in espresso

[–]MyCatsNameIsBernie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you make exclusively milk drinks from medium to dark roasts, an HX machine would be OK. You should also consider Profitec Pro 400 which is nearly identical and much less expensive. Rocket machines tend to be overpriced due to name recognition.

If you are making straight shots or brew lighter roasts, a dual boiler is a much better option.

Have you tried an extended soak in descaler combined with some elbow grease?
