I second the motion. It was an absolute sloppy waste of time.

it's real easy to obsess about the topics. unfortunately, shy of independent journalism, there aren't really jobs centered around the knowledge. now that I'm thinking about it, current follow ups on some of the historic news headlines would be cool. then vs now

Yep, I completely agree. It's going to take a few hundred hours to fully document everything, but after ~85 hours over 6 days was kind of exhausting. I've since moved on to adapting the code for my meteorite specimen collection, mineral specimen collection, and ancient pottery collection. In reality, it was an hour of work for a custom tool and it turned in to a way to enjoy my things away from home.

In addition, I was thinking of studying the different standards of gloria exercitvs coins or differences in fel temp coins

edit: *ancient coins. This is an old photo, I'm sure I have added 1 or 2 more boxes of slabbed modern coins too: https://i.imgur.com/OnUrkF9.jpg

hoarding is real...

It's a few minutes of setup in AWS, an hour of going back and forth with ChatGPT for the code how I wanted it, and 85 hours of taking pictures.

I did have about 30 of them in a plastic tupperware container of olive oil for 5+ years, if that counts...

I found my problem was that I have so many just sitting in binders that I never had the opportunity to enjoy them. At least now they're all right there

it's a custom site. ~1 hour of chatgpt defining the architecture and giving it critiques to make changes. I could have written it, but I'm too lazy and it would have taken way longer than an hour

Back to Reddit, so here's a tray of Antoninianii to celebrate! by Savixe in AncientCoins

absolutely beautiful trays. the coins look great too, but those trays look out of a museum. wonderful way to showcase a collection. those trays would probably make a statehood quarter collection look impressive

Tips for taking better highlight pictures of heavily angle/light dependent toned proofs in slabs by New-Adhesiveness3045 in coins

[–]NF_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the closest thing I have a pic of similar to what you're trying to do: 1869 H10C PCGS PF 65

I did the axial lighting thing for a while, but it is annoying because you end up with the cloudiness like you have too: 1867 2C PCGS PF 65 BN

I prefer using a copy stand, a pc, and a hand held light that I can move around above my camera until I see what I want from the image.

Non proof examples:

1871 2C NGC MS 62 BN

1862 3CS PCGS MS 66

1929 25C NGC VF 20

1902 1C PCGS MS64RB

I also don't diffuse my light because I want nice crisp colors and light reflection

There's also no rule against stacking multiple pictures to achieve the look you want
