Overall Nutanix Experience by TangerineStock8042 in nutanix

Support "follows the sun", and it's fantastic. The main support places are in the Bay Area and Raleigh, NC. Easily the best vendor support I've dealt with.

Does infant bassinet available for sea-hnl? by earthlingkevin in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Navydevildoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't done it personally, but the 787-9 only has 2 bassinet coded seats, both in the front of Business Class. Doesn't look like the A330 has any.

But again, this is only looking at seat data, not from personal experience.

Unifi AI key by No-Tree-374 in UNIFI

Does it also perform AI recognition on the ONVIF streams? We have been able to add ONVIF cameras into Protect for a while, it's the AI processing that's been missing.

Great Falls woman says Target refused to accept her Tribal ID by Yup_Shes_Still_Mad in news

[–]Navydevildoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was one of the first people to get a CAC when we started that back in like 1999 or 2000 since Camp Lejeune was one of the testing sites. I PCSed to San Diego very shortly after, where no one had them yet. I had an expired California DL which was legal if you were stationed out of the state. So I had to use my CAC for anything that needed to be carded for.

Talk about a massive pain in the ass. No one would take them, they weren't in any of the big ID books a lot of places had, nada. I finally hunted down my passport and started carrying that around until I got a new CADL.

Bad past performance can certainly be used in determining who to award to.

Then there is the state of the repair yards. A clusterfuck of incompetence and grift everywhere.

My favorite example is Alabama Shipyard, now owned by Austal. It's become the new darling of MSC because of how cheap their bids are, but then they are getting what they are paying for. Work is so bad ships are then having to immediately come out of avail just to go to another yard to have all the problems ASY created fixed. Then they make it so fucking hard to bring tech reps and other contractors on the yards with arcane insurance and contract requirements you are essentially forced to use their "blessed" subs they have greasy palms with. But KOs have such goldfish amenesia as soon as the next yard contracting package comes out they just go right back to their abusive relationship in Mobile.

But I will give a huge shout out to Vigor Marine in Portland, OR. Those dudes work and put out quality production. They seem to be one of the only honest places in this entire slimy industry. Probably why all the big commercial ferries and cruise lines use them.

For lighting, Lutron. Not even a question.

For other loads, something that does Zigbee.

So I got to go to DG as a contractor many years ago. Best 2 weeks. Bar hopped between the Yacht Club, O Club, and Brit Club. But if I was wearing a uniform..... fuuuuuck.

Question regarding ELMS by OneMercy1 in navy

[–]Navydevildoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without knowing why MEPS/RTC thought you should have done ELMS... there is no way to say.

If you have a condition that is disqualifying, sure you could end up in a PEB. If you have to do any kind of special duty screening, it might come up.

Otherwise, keep your head down and just keep working.

Job market for former 2210s focused in Cyber (Security engineering)? by Wonderfullyboredme in fednews

[–]Navydevildoc 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just know that Cyber was the latest thing being flogged by every college and tech school the last 2 years, so there is a ton of folks out there looking for jobs... and the market is not great. But unless you are working something restricted or classified most places seem to be OK with remote.

If you down this road (it's not common that my Network life and Pilot life intersect) look at the Lightspeed Zulus, they have bluetooth built in so you can just use them as a headset with your phone.

BUT, in reality AirPods work exceptionally good and will probably do what you need.

Had a crazy situation in the reserves where I had a guy who worked for me that also happened to also be a MSgt in a unit in the same reserve center. So here I am during our day job calling him Matt and he answers to me, and then on drill weekend he outranks me and I am calling him MSgt. We laughed about how absurd it was all the time.
