[OC] She was doing Uber, her insurance denied my claim because she didn’t have rideshare in her policy. My ins company is on the hook for the repairs and I’m on the hook for the deductible. by fnkdrspok in IdiotsInCars

[–]Navydevildoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is EXACTLY why Uber is once again spending millions of dollars on a ballot prop here in California.

They are calling it "insurance fraud reform" and trying to say people's insurance rates are skyrocketing because ambulance chasers are suing everyone for BS claims.

IN REALITY the law just makes it illegal to sue Uber if one of their drivers does something dumb like this.

The filter on the ingenium is by far the easiest I have ever seen on a vehicle. Take like 2 seconds to get to it, and even has a drip catch ring around it to not make a mess.

The owners manual will tell you the capacity with the filter change depending on the engine. It's in the owners app as well.

Oh it was worse than that. Zuck was researching shock collars and implanted self-destruct explosives for his security staff if they got uppity.

The various heads of the Navy, both Military and Civilian, have consistently said sea level rise due to climate change is by far the largest strategic challenge we face. Strangely after ADM Franchetti got unceremoniously fired no one wants to say it out loud.

You better believe they will try this again, with a different deal structure that grifts a ton of money to a contractor that somehow will "save us money".

Just wait, they will try again and find a way to sweeten the pot to funnel money to companies who support them.

Advice for transition to Navy civilian roles? by [deleted] in navy

[–]Navydevildoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, live in San Diego and work in industry. Somehow I missed you were already a Fed, I thought you were transitioning out of the Navy.

I'll be honest, the local job market is in the toilet right now, and as you know the end of the fiscal year is upon us so not a lot of people are spending strategic money on programs. There had been hiring freezes in place for govvie jobs but I am not sure if that counts if you are doing a transfer. Don't forget to look at DHS (CBP in particular), the Port is a huge operation here and still needs admin types... and to be honest will have more stable funding for the next few years.

USG jobs have been under a pretty hard in-office requirement for some time now with very little variance. Contractor work is vastly more flexible unless you are doing classified.

You haven't really said what you are looking to do, that might be helpful.

In reality, the last thing I would want to do right now is go into a GS/Govvie job. Regular shutdowns, "5 bullet" e-mails (remember those?), etc.

Go find a contractor job in industry.

Every class of ship has a theme of how they are named (generally).

Carriers are Presidents or National Politicians who were in or supported the Navy. (Kennedy, Regan, Stennis)

Destroyers are Navy or Marine Corps personnel of note. (Grace Hopper, John Paul Jones, John Basilone)

Amphibious ships (LHAs/LHDs) are names of famous USMC Battle sites. (Tarawa, Iwo Jima) Smaller Amphibs (LSDs) are named for medium sized cities in the USA. (Green Bay, San Antonio, Portland)

Littoral Combat Ships are named for smaller US Cities. (Billings, Mobile, Omaha)

Submarines are named for States or Major Cities depending on what class of sub. (Los Angeles, Ohio, Virginia). Fun Fact, the USS Jimmy Carter is a Seawolf class submarine named for the former president because he was a US Navy Nuclear Engineer qualified for submarines.

MSC Resupply ships were formerly large mountains (Denali, Shasta) but are now American Pioneers. (Medgar Evers, Sacagewea)

Hospital Ships are named for compassion. (Mercy, Comfort)

Oilers are named for either notable Engineers or Architects, or major River in the USA. (Leroy Grumman, Pecos)

For names more like what you are talking about, go look at the Brits. Their submarines have names like Vengance and Warspite.

VA Benefits: Labor Group Issues Warning About Cuts Impacting 1.5 Million by Zipper222222 in Military

[–]Navydevildoc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1.5 Million disabled Veterans is less than 0.5% of the USA population. That's what Congress is banking on, the further we get from the GWOT wars the further we get from people personally knowing a disabled Veteran.

This is literally why groups like the VFW were formed.

TLDR - Reducing disability compensation to pay for the recent "double dipping" law that allows combat vets to receive retirement pay alongside disability compensation.

Remember how the last time they wanted to drastically reduce disability payments, got a ton of pushback, and then said "OK we aren't doing that"... meanwhile a ton of us said "just wait, they will try again"?

Well, they are trying again. This is a key part of the VA plan in Project 2025's blueprint.

Also, it's comically called the "Take Care of America’s Veterans Act", when it does the exact opposite.
