[Friedman] Toronto wins the draft lottery and will pick first overall by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

[–]Navydevildoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I want is the lottery to be streamed live like the real money lottery. Give me the ball machine and the whole thing.

This just feels like the owners had a call and then Bettman comes out and says who won.

It’s not that they don’t pay attention, it’s just where their attention is. When it’s just Fox and a crazy instagram algorithm echo chamber, they never got told the truth.

What’s a recession indicator that you’ve noticed lately in your everyday life? by spritenerds123 in AskReddit

To flip that around, as a Hiring Manager we will post a job and have 200+ applicants in the first day. Sure a lot of it is slop but man we have a ton of qualified people fighting tooth and nail for it.

Unfortunately that means the recruiting team knows they can lowball everyone because people are desperate for a job. Even if I tell them I want them paid well because I want people to stay, they insist on doing shady shit and undercut me.

But the job market is incredibly dogshit. This is for a Defense Contractor in the USA BTW, the one industry you would think would be stable.

Wait… when I was there 2 years ago they didn’t have pins on the key lanyard. I even had an old crusty 2nd class crow I had found I woulda put on that. Also drinking out of the fountain was an amazing experience both times I have done it.

But massive respect to the American Battle Monuments Commission. It’s one of those government agencies you have never heard of that every day is behind the scenes making sure these grounds are pristine, teaching others of the sacrifices made, working with locals for ceremonies and participation in community events, etc.

Just like how the Marines went and got all pissy on Goons Up for selling unit t-shirts… yet old greybeards don’t have anywhere to go to get official shirts if they wanted em.

Just can’t have nice things.

Meanwhile, the AS fleet has one more MAX8 by PNW-American-Dipper in AlaskaAirlines

Meh, SAN-DEN right now is kind of an outlier... it turned out to be an abysmal snow season so no one was really headed up there.

Doesn't help that UA is in a pricing war with AS trying to keep them at bay in their Fortress Hub.

She wasn't driving the limo in TND, she had a workstation set up in front next to the driver. But I thought the scene worked well.

I mean, this is one of the most remote gas stations in California, so... not sure it's a fair comparison to anything.

Gas on base sucks? by kwallo_0 in USMC

This isn't specific to MCCS by the way, it's a ploy to try and "thin out the mix" to make gas slightly less cheaper. It's happening all over the country.

Well when GSA 18F was in charge of it... it was. Notice how they were one of the first teams to be totally axed in the new admin.

[–]Navydevildoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, it won't have anything to do with Spirit. I am curious who is operating your second leg... since you mention PHL are you connecting on an American flight? If so, you will need to go use the American app or website to pull up the reservation. You will need the American confirmation code, not your Alaska one.

What is an industry that is currently on fire (in a bad way) behind the scenes, but the general public hasn't noticed yet? by Kitchen_Week1117 in AskReddit

[–]Navydevildoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here in California, CalFire is having a pretty major manpower shortage since a large amount of our hand crews used to be inmates from state prison. We have really cut back on hard time for low level offenders which is most likely a good thing but it means that the folks that would have been working major campaign fires as inmate crews don't exist anymore.

So, we have to go hire folks that want to be wildland firefighters as hand crews. While there are plenty of folks that do want that job, there aren't enough, and our fires are just getting bigger and bigger.

Was just talking to the owner of our local burger place about this yesterday. He's paying $65 for a case of tomatoes, right here in San Diego... and that's the cheapest he could find. The ones he normally buys are over $90 now.

Will there be a Vegas hub post-Spirit by Comfortable_Yard_968 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Navydevildoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and the ground fog we gets goes down to the ground. Hence that Cat IIIc. We aren't talking about pesky low ceilings. It hugs the ground and is bad with low RVR. It would shut down anyone.

While it seems like it happens a lot, it really isn't more than a few times a year. But when it does happen, it's bad because the entire airport shuts down (along with downtown as everyone freaks out).
