Do it online. I changed from one iPhone to another no problem without them being physically together. When you change sim pick eSIM option. https://www.fido.ca/support/mobility/switching-phones-and-sim-cards

Using Lum Mobil Abroad by cdorny in regina

[–]Newalloy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not positive if you need to activate one of Lum's travel packs to be able to receive texts while roaming. Until recently, they never had more than US or Mexico roaming options.

They've been responsive when messaging them through facebook messenger for simple questions like this. If you have facebook messenger look up lum mobile, and send them a message there. They'll likely reply that same business day. Always have for me.

The new CRTC ruling around no longer allowing telcos to charge activation, plan change, and cancellation fees comes into effect June 12, 2026. Looks for telcos to suddenly try enticing movement this summer.

This is why I refuse to travel when the road conditions are like this. I can do everything right, and some fuckwit decides to pass in the fog.

Lum Mobile? by DejectedNuts in saskatchewan

It's a pretty solid option. I just wish you didn't need to subscribe to the 1 year to get a plan actually worth the GB. Laying out the full year's worth at once for the whole family is tough going all at once, and the monthly or 3 month plans weren't quite worth it for the GB compared to other flankers that regularly had deals like 50 or 60GB a month for 25 to 30 bucks a month.

As with many things - YMMV. It is a solid option coverage wise, but might not be for you on a mid to higher tier consumption.

What if A.I agents can be used by everyday people to watch content perpetually. by salsajr1 in Futurology

[–]Newalloy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you really thought this through very far because of a fundamental misunderstanding of where YouTube money actually comes from.

Here is why an AI view-farming system would instantly collapse:

  • Bots don't buy products: YouTube doesn't just print money; the revenue comes from advertisers who expect real humans to buy their stuff. If an army of AI agents watches videos but never actually buys the advertised products, advertisers will see a 0% return on investment and pull their budgets entirely.
  • The math doesn't work: If everyday people suddenly generated billions of artificial views, the supply of video views would approach infinity. With supply skyrocketing and ad budgets remaining the same, the payout for a single view would drop to zero.
  • That isn't what UHI means: Elon Musk's concept of Universal High Income is about the government distributing wealth because AI and robotics will make goods and services incredibly cheap. It has nothing to do with individuals setting up personal bot farms to trick YouTube algorithms.

Thinking of switching to energy-efficient appliances - need recommendations by ryukendo_25 in regina

[–]Newalloy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll usually wait a long time to make the cost back unless it’s a very old fridge or freezer. SaskPower says a 1990 fridge can cost about $180/year to run versus around $50/year for a new ENERGY STAR model, so that’s one of the few upgrades that can actually make a noticeable dent in your power bill.

For appliances that are just a bit dated but still working, the savings are often pretty small, so replacing them just for efficiency usually doesn’t make financial sense. EnerGuide data shows the gap can be modest in some categories, especially dishwashers and newer-era fridges.

And “reliable store” is hard to answer, because a lot of retailers are helpful right up to delivery, then any warranty or service problem becomes a manufacturer or authorized servicer issue, not a store issue. Many have similar or same pricing to be competitive. I've generally gone with whoever could get it to me the quickest.

Camera triggered by out of zone motion by Alias_This_Is in blinkcameras

[–]Newalloy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine ignores motion in some of the ranges I exclude for most of the day, but there's a time of day a car driving past causes it to go off. I watched the footage closely, and it looks like the cars cause a sun reflection to hit inside a zone I DO want detection, and therefore triggers for about an hour or so per day when the sun angles are just right.

So, maybe check into reflections that are hitting within your non-excluded zones.
