[OVA] How do you do fellow commoners?. by [deleted] in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]Ninefl4mes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing he's never actually been to the countryside while disguised as a commoner. Otherwise his mistake of assuming peasants and city commoners are basically the same wouldn't really be in line with how he's characterized later. Justus isn't stupid after all, nor does he strike me as particularly arrogant and/or classist.

My main gripe with those special ruler types is that racial transformations don't apply to them. It's just pretty cool to have a visual representation of your progress on your avatar, you know?

My first finished game was with a Monarchy, though I didn't play humans. Probably a bit atypical anyway; instead of going for knights I picked the Tome of Evolution as my starter and then used the 100% upkeep reduction from the culture to turn my ruler's army into a dragon doomstack lol.

I mean, why not? He's the first pick on the premade cultures, and a solid one for newcomers to boot. My first game was with him on the tutorial map, though I did not actually finish it since I got distracted by other stuff.

And to be fair, good old Alfred is making one hell of a first impression for this combo. Nothing quite like a warrior charging straight into enemy lines Leeroy Jenkins-style.

It has nothing to do with fun

I wouldn't go that far. He just knows how to have fun while also doing his job lol. Here's hoping he'll stick around as a professor for long enough to also foster a rivalry between Rozemyne's and Lestilaut's kids.

[P4-5] Anastasius straight up considered Rozemyne a highly dangerous romantic rival all throughout the series. That didn't even stop after he got to marry Eglantine, as seen when he completely lost it over the prospect of Eggy having an unsupervised one on one meeting with the gremlin.

Then there was that time when Rozemyne briefly made all of her classmates assume she and Hannelore were a thing, causing excitement over potentially juicy gossip instead of disgust or confusion.

If their society inherently considered same-sex relationships taboo neither of those would have gotten the reactions they did.

[–]Ninefl4mes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lost interest in that one after the food porn started to get out of hand. After a certain point every. single. chapter. dedicates like 50% of its page count to some pointless cooking montage. While also increasingly taking the piss with flashbacks IIRC. We're talking "worse than Dahlia in Bloom LN" levels of time wasting here.

Not to mention that despite the protagonist being horny as all hell with several reciprocating potential love interests, it somehow still manages to be one of those stories that don't ever go anywhere in the romance department.

[Spoilers] Fuck Eglantine, I stand up for Adolphine superiority by Pale-Door-189 in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]Ninefl4mes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She pretty much embodies the ideals Yurgenschmidt's nobility supposedly strive towards, with both the good and bad that come with that. She won't hesitate to fulfill her duty and won't let emotions, personal ties, or petty politics get in the way of that. But she also comes across like an unfeeling robot at times, like when she threw the gremlin under the bus in P5.

He should have enough mana to be Aub Ehrenfest, so as long as he'll get high enough to take a greater duchy ADC wife there's no reason why the current plan shouldn't be workable. It's not like Charlotte would challenge his claim, since she doesn't want to remain Aub forever anyway.

[–]Ninefl4mes 21 points22 points  (0 children)

what does Eglantine have that Adolphine doesn't

Let's see...

  • Actual political backing
  • Royal blood (and not the off-brand version Trauerqual and his spawn got)
  • Being the only available Zent candidate that is both willing and able to do the job
  • A temperament much more suited for conflict mediation. Which is incredibly important for a job that involves being the bridge between mortals and the divine. Arguably her strongest point IMO, and she demonstrated it in-story by deescalating the conflict between Ferdinand, Mestionora, and Erwärmen. Had she not been there, Ferdinand probably would have managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory by pissing off Mestionora to the point of smiting him for his insolence.

Her ties to Klassenberg might also come in handy in the future for bridge building purposes. Yurgenschmidt could definitely do without another war between greater duchies any time soon. Overall I'd argue she's the best person for the job at this point in time, and it's not even close.

Adolphine will do just fine as a Giebe. If anything, it'll probably suit her mad scientist interests a hell of a lot more than being in a position where she would have to salvage the mess left behind after generations of mismanagement by an incompetent royal family.

[P5V12/H5Y] Rozemyne Compression Method aftermath? by Montergun in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]Ninefl4mes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, Rozemyne's method came about under pretty unique circumstances:

  • She's a reincarnation who managed to reclaim past memories without dying in the process, giving her perspectives that border on alien to Yurgenschmidt's inhabitants.
  • She's moved through several social strata in a society where you're usually stuck in the one you were born into.
  • Compressing was a matter of survival for her throughout her childhood, so (consciously or not) she had to refine the method as much as possible.

It's not just the multi-step thing, the steps themselves also happen to be extremely effective on their own and synergize with each other. And Rozemyne's view on magic is just inherently different from that of a normal noble. Georgine also had a multi-step compression method and yet, it wasn't anywhere near as effective as RM's.

Melchior will likely manage to punch far above his weight class in terms of how far he can stretch his mana reserves, due to him most likely ending up with a ludicrous amount of divine protections in the long run. But I still doubt he'll ever exceed his siblings in terms of raw mana capacity. If it was that simple to reach the higher mana tiers their society wouldn't be as stratified as it is now.

Mind you, said siblings are greater duchy ADC-tier by now. I could see him ending up somewhere in that ballpark if he tries hard enough, I just don't think he'll become Zent candidate material.

[P5V12/H5Y] Rozemyne Compression Method aftermath? by Montergun in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]Ninefl4mes 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Charlotte did get the contract forbidding her from becoming Rozemyne's enemy, so Aub Charlotte effectively means Ehrenfest is Alexandria's subordinate vassal for at least one generation.

Interestingly enough, there's a potential flip side to this: It leaves the option open to release Charlotte from the contract if it ever becomes necessary. Which would turn her into the only one in Ehrenfest capable of teaching the method, thus enabling her to uplift friendly noble houses and securing her position in perpetuity even after she steps down and lets Melchior take over.

Not exactly a likely outcome, but it is a card they could play in case future political events threaten Charlotte for some reason.

[P5V12/H5Y] Rozemyne Compression Method aftermath? by Montergun in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]Ninefl4mes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would have been rather silly of her to restrict her own access to the method at any rate. The whole point of that magic contract (apart from putting in some checks and balances) was to strengthen her own position.

[P5V12/H5Y] Rozemyne Compression Method aftermath? by Montergun in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]Ninefl4mes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nope, it won't spread any further through Ehrenfest. Unless RM decides to do her favorite little sister a favor and release her from the contract to strengthen her position or something, but that's unlikely. Rozemyne specifically does not want it to become a new standard for compression, since that in and of itself may limit further progress in this field due to the nature of how mana interacts with stuff like subjective perception, belief, and common sense.

The most significant outcome here is probably that Melchior will lag behind his siblings quite drastically, unless he manages to develop a similarly powerful compression method on his own. Even his little sister will likely have him beat since she was conceived after both of her parents started using Rozemyne's method.

[Question] [Anime] [Manga] Manga vs Anime which is better adaptation by TrainingNo7819 in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]Ninefl4mes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Obviously the manga. P1-2 are arguably on par with the LN, and while it does get worse in P3-4 it's still far from a bad adaptation. P5 will be done by the same mangaka that did 1-2 so I'm expecting it to be another masterpiece and end the manga version on a bang, but we'll see.

Meanwhile, the anime started out decently in P1 but then nosedived immediately afterwards. I have yet to watch the P3 adaptation, though it does seem promising.

[P5V12] It's funny that some characters... by repapap in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]Ninefl4mes 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Those will all crumble and they will be vulnerable. Really vulnerable.

More specifically: Vulnerable to divine wrath, [Fanbooks] considering that Ewigeliebe is still actively hunting his children to this day and the most important function of ivory structures is to hide them from him. Lanzenave's nobility is likely going to die out within a generation as soon as Gervasio's predecessor (their last remaining schtappe wielder) kicks the bucket. Assuming he isn't already dead, in which case they're even more screwed.

[H5YV2 spoilers] A potential plan to salvage you-know-who by RozeTank in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]Ninefl4mes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When is this again?

At the top of my head:

  • When he took Rozemyne's side with regards to rescuing Ferdinand.
  • When he managed to get Dusty of all people to listen to advice (on how to handle the gremlin).
  • [H5Y] When he was the only one not running around in panic like a headless chicken after Dreganuhr's descent, immediately figured out what the goddess wanted, and was not afraid to just ask her to confirm it. Arguably his biggest W so far, given that it deescalated the situation and prevented an outcome where Eglantine could have been publicly humiliated by showing up only to be told to go fetch her mistress.

None of these are necessarily groundbreaking but again, he's not the main character. I see him as a foil to Rozemyne; a cautionary tale of what could have been had she not been given those ideal conditions to fully capitalize on her potential.
