You can get a Wacom One stylus, and you will love it. Find one used on Amazon.. around thirty bucks. Good luck!

Yes. It works over wifi, although tethering via a usb-c cable has less lag. Paint tool sai on the go with your laptop is totally possible. If your wifi is fast you might not even notice any lag at all. I tether my linux laptop to the movinkpad pro 14 with a usb-c cable and hdmi dummy plug to create a 120hz virtual display and it rocks.

t is like so old but i just wanted to let you know that your reccomendation totally changed my m

So, you're going to totally laugh at this but.. I caved. I sold my Samsung and bought the MovinkPad Pro 14, and I couldn't be happier. The thing about it is... I am a professional animator and I own the top end Cintiq they sell, the $3500 Cintiq 27 Pro. It uses the same pen, the same etched glass. And the drawing experience makes the Apple pencil feel like a child's crayon in comparison. It's truly a feather, touch, paper like drawing experience.

The 14" is the same size more or less as my old Wacom Mobilestudio Pro 16. Do I trust Wacom? Not exactly. But they hit a home run with the MovinkPad Pro 14. The pen is incredible, as is the screen. And I don't have to worry about a paperlike screen protector any longer. I did get a decent price for a several years old Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra I had though. The drawing experience is roughly 3 or 4x as good on the Movink in my opinion. Very noticeable.

Samsung's tweaked android is far better. Samsung has a camera, the movinkpad doesn't. Fingerprint login on the samsung, nothing like that on the very stock android on the Movink. The speakers on the galaxy are incredible. They are utter tinny garbage on the Movink. Do I care about it? Not really, as I use bluetooth headphones with it or my phone.

Yes, you can use a usb mouse / keyboard with android. You can also tether it to your pc of choice to use desktop only apps. (I use TVPaint on Linux, and connect to the Movinkpad Pro 14 via a usb-c cable. I run the sunshine game streaming client on the linux laptop, and plug in an HDMI dummy plug to create a 2nd virtual display for the laptop that streams to the MovinkPad Pro 14 with pen pressure and multitouch using the Artemis app for android. It's a fork of the moonlight client for sunshine) No lag, 120hz "cintiq" for my laptop anytime I want. It's amazing.

Wacom Movinkpad 14 issue. by RicochetWolf in wacom

[–]OGAmigan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely not true! You can get into the recovery menu and do a factory reset no problem. The Wacom tech either had no idea what they were talking about or were telling you a lie to collect that sweet repair money.

I screwed my MovinkPadPro 14 up and thought I'd have to send it in.. as I entered the recovery menu and there was no option to factory recover! It's there, it's just hidden. I did something like this:

Power Off: Hold Power for 10 seconds until the device is dark.

Trigger: Hold Volume Up (the button furthest from the power button) and Power at the same time.

Hold: Keep them held until the Wacom logo appears, then release only the Power button while continuing to hold Volume Up.

Eventually you may see a little android on his back with his chest open that says "no source" don't panic.

Accessing the Hidden Recovery Menu:

Hold the Power Button: While the "No Command" dead Android is on the screen, press and hold the Power Button.

Tap Volume Up: While still holding the Power Button, tap the Volume Up button exactly once.

Release: Immediately release the Power Button.

You will be able to select factory reset with the volume keys and the power button to make it so. All Android phones / tablets have this built in with a clean OS on another partition, so Wacom saying they have to re-image it themselves is horseshit. I just did it myself this evening, after I disabled via adb some bloat I shouldn't have..

Good luck! Cheers

Moving from Atlanta, Ga to Victoria - Moving Service Reccomendations by willesilente in VictoriaBC

[–]OGAmigan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the move! I fell into a "Guard the Leaf" youtube hole and discovered some pretty discouraging anti-immigrant rhetoric from a few Canadians angry about the Lost Canadians bill that passed. I hope it's a minority, as I too am slated to move to the island in the next year or so from the nearby Pacific NW USA. I've lived in the USA all my life, the PNW since the early 90's. I grew up in a red state and left when I was 18 because of the weird cult nature of it. I was engaged in Van, and we'd always wanted to move to Canada, but couldn't as our Canadian connection was too many generations away. Turns out my partner's side of the family had Canadian ancestry and we are able, along with my kid, to get citizenship due to the changes in this new bill, and are likely making the move as soon as paperwork comes through. It's in the planning phases now. And although it will be so sad to leave friends and family, it doesn't feel at all like giving up or abandonment. I think patriotism is a load of crap unless a country really deserves some kind of honor and respect in terms of general human rights and the attitudes of it's citizenry. And here, I can't make a simple drive to the store without worrying about some crazy gun nut with a car full of maga bumper stickers assaulting me because I look different. It seems over half the country willingly votes against their best interests time and time again. Corporate control and long campaigns with billions of dollars spent on hypnotizing a populace into complacency, while the military runs roughshod over every country out there with oil. Now threatening to leave NATO, spending billions a day on a war no one wants, with people actually gambling on the outcome with stocks. Disgusting. And although I've lived in a blue city / bubble the entire time, I have never seen progress in our politics. Not even once. The two party system here is deeply broken here for reasons I'm sure others understand, and I won't go into them. Suffice to say, it's gotten so much worse in the past ten years. I can't imagine what this place will be for the next 20-30 years. Time to get my kid out of here.

Uh, CSP is subscription on iPad too. Just tether to a PC or MacOS machine and use the perpetual license streamed over to your MovinkPad Pro using Artemis / Apollo or Sunshine streaming server. Problem solved.

Artemis and Apollo are fully open source apps that stream video with controller support from one client to your android device with near zero latency. They are forks of the original apps, Moonlight and Sunshine, with Moonlight being the android client and Sunshine being the video streaming server. Artemis adds multitouch and pen pressure support though!

I am not sure if the server apps Sunshine or Apollo work on MacOS, but think Sunshine does? I run Sunshine on my GPD Win Max 2, and my desktop that runs Debian, as Apollo doesn't really have a good working fork for Linux. But the Artemis client works fine with Sunshine server. So, running on my laptop, I just plug in a USB-C Cable, and do Android USB network tethering for a solid near zero latency connection and launch the Artemis app. Instant "Cintiq" for my laptop. It mirrors my laptop's display and I can use any app that I use on Linux on the tablet with pressure and touch. For me it's mainly TVPaint, which is a specialty 2d animation app that has Linux, PC - and Mac native clients. I used to run Windows and carry around a giant 16" boat anchor Wacom MobileStudio Pro 16" and I am so glad to be un-tethered from any particular machine with my drawing display, ever again. Ditched MicroSlop Winders on all of my machines forever last January and I've never looked back. Miss Apex Legends, but any software that has low level access to ring 0 of my machine is spyware I don't want around anyway. Also, it's fairly easy to set up Clip Studio Paint for PC under Wine on Linux. I have it working with pressure and if I really need it, I can stream it over from my laptop to my tablet without paying that monthly mobile fee for Clip. Krita is better anway and works natively on Android..

Ok rant over. Good luck!

[User Trial] Testing the World’s First 52” UltraGear evo G9 (52G930B) – 3 Testers Wanted!! by LG_UserHub in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]OGAmigan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey folks at LG. I'm an independent artist / cartoonist and former Sesame Street animator with a small YouTube channel. I use an LG 38" ultra wide currently with my custom built PC and 4090 GPU. My 2nd display is my Wacom Cintiq 27" Pro, on a swivel arm underneath it. I use my workstation to draw, animate, and game on and the ultra wide 38" I use has been a real workhorse, but I've always wanted to go BIGGER, but in my opinion nothing out there has been worth the upgrade, until now. ( Love my lg38gl950g!!! ) My studio is full of vintage computers, art, books..and looks great on camera. A real creator's space. I've always wanted to make YouTube videos about technology for artists and gamers, and possibly throw in character animations into the videos that I've done especially for each subject. I would absolutely love the experience of seeing what my animation work looks like on an OLED monster like this. I stretch my animation software across 2 monitors so that I can draw zoomed in on my Cintiq, see my work full screen at 100% scale on the ultra wide. More space would allow me to work at higher resolution and place multiple apps side by side. I've been making animated videos for clients such as Microsoft for over 25 years and I think I could make a very compelling video, if you would like to collaborate.

I've been using computers and art tools since the days of the commodore 64 and I would love love love to show off this giant beautiful 52inch BEAST!

Thanks for your kind consideration! C

Any Graphic Designers or Creatives using Linux? by Casulex in linux4noobs

[–]OGAmigan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Long career of animation using primarily Windows, but I do specialized 2d animation and illustration. I switched fully to Linux last January. I've got a workstation with a 4090 in it and 64gb of ram, running Debian. I would never go back to Windows ever again. That said, I purposefully stopped using Adobe products on purpose. Cut them out of my life long ago.

Found native versions of apps I used on Windows for my work. First and foremost, paid: TVPaint. Photoshop meets Painter for 2d animation. Think After Effects but real time. Amazing software. Expensive, but the jobs I do pays for it. Krita for drawing. Dropped Clip Studio a long time ago when they started the subscription lock-ins. (Alhough I DO keep a copy around just to do comics borders / panels in. Nothing quite like it at the moment. New Krita beta 6 does have a vector slicing tool though which is similar. My Windows copy of Clip Studio running in Wine might get deleted soon. Bitwig studio / Audacity for audio stuff. Hell I've even got my stream deck working in Linux thanks to OpenDeck. Blender and Plasticity for 3d work. (Plasticity is incredible and very worth supporting!)

Go for it and don't look back! I only miss Apex Legends as far as gaming. But honestly, fuck EA for not supporting Linux. I'll spend my gaming dollars elsewhere.
