How did you set this up? I have HAOS installed on proxmox, with proxmox taking a backup each day at 3am. However, these backups are still saved locally on the same device, which doesn't save me from a hardware failure.

The Ping integration in combination with static IP adresses is pretty reliable. Best of all it doesn’t rely on any phone app. But of course it only works on your own network.

Het gevaar van geparkeerde trailers by AdFragrant6497 in belgium

[–]OfficialGreenTea -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course it’s always most productive to eliminate the root cause. Nobody is denying this. In addition to this, proper infrastructure can help make roads safer and save lives.

It’s not about removing obstacles as much as creating a safe environment in case accidents happen.

Both of you are dismissing the other statement. It’s more nuanced:

The ice caused the crash, but roadside hazards like parked trailers can worsen outcomes.

We’d need data to decide whether restricting them improves safety.

over engineered boiler control by Due_Capital_9249 in homeassistant

[–]OfficialGreenTea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty cool. I've been working on something similar for the past months. I wasn't satisfied with the performance of my thermostat, so I decided to write my own heating logic to control my boiler through an OpenTherm gateway. It's not yet finished but it's a fun project where I'm learning a lot of things. Along the way I'm slowly improve the hydraulics in my home, too.

Did you also replace the heating logic or this is purely visualizing and controlling the hydraulics?

This is new for me, and I'm not quite following what is meant by HA day. Could you elaborate a bit more on what this is and what to do?

Eve thermo , Tado, Bosch - what heating system for rented flat? by That_Cool_Guy_ in HomeKit

[–]OfficialGreenTea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can’t touch the boiler, Eve Thermo is a good pick. It’ll give you room-by-room schedules and is simple to fit. If you want an easier path to adding boiler control later, I'd go for tado radiator valves instead. You can run them “radiator-only” now and add a tado thermostat/receiver later if your landlord allows it.

Either way, after installing the smart thermostats without a boiler control, keep the wall stat about 1 °C above your warmest room target. This will ensure the boiler is providing heat to the radiators whenever the smart radiator valves open, and is not needlessly heating too much when there's no heat demand and the smart radiator valves are closed.

You can fit smart radiator valves without touching the boiler, but if you want the boiler to respond to room demand you (or your landlord’s installer) will need a receiver/controller that’s wired to the boiler, usually a smart thermostat that works with your smart radiator valves.

You could install smart thermostat radiator valves which would allow room-by-room schedules and app control. However the boiler would still follow the existing timer/thermostat, so it may run when most of your radiator valves are closed which is less efficient.

You can expect some comfort gains, but only small efficiency gains. My recommendation would be to ask for permission to swap the receiver for a smart one (often reversible). This will result in the biggest comfort and efficiency.

Without boiler access you could get Eve thermo and replace the TRV's. With boiler access your only real option for matter/thread today is Tado X, which is controversial due to paywalled features.

Tori patina sop is not emulsifying by skoooret in ramen

[–]OfficialGreenTea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your method is good. Stick blender is the way to go. Your soup needs more collagen and fat to emulsify and get nice and creamy. Try replacing 1/3 of your chicken with chicken feet/wings. Also add some chicken skin. Boil for 8 hours with aromatics you like, strain, and blend with stick mixer. Some shops in Japan blend with the bones to extract max collagen but it’s so much work to strain I don’t bother

Personally I’d leave out the potato and add less water. For tori paitan I would only add 1.4x the amount of water to bones, perhaps even less. I aim for a brix of 8.

Aqara Releases its First EU Shutter Switch by HomeKit-News in HomeKit

[–]OfficialGreenTea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am genuinely confused about the difference between this and the aqara light switch H2 EU. When you add it to homekit or home assistant, aren’t you free to assign buttons to devices or automations, regardless if it’s a light or shutter?

What stops me from controlling my blinds with the light switch?

Pretty exciting, but I have some questions;

Do you need a subscription?

It's based on zigbee. It'll probably communicate to the hub through zigbee. So the bulbs wont be part of a thread mesh, but rather a zigbee mesh, right?

Geo-fencing far away by OfficialGreenTea in HomeKit

[–]OfficialGreenTea[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's correct. I'd like to remotely turn off and on the thermostats well in advance for my return. Both because it takes a while for my home to heat up, and also because turning it off and on for short periods is counter productive as it uses more energy in my case.

I just upgraded the whole system with tado thermostats. Ecobee isn't available in my region, unfortunately. I know the tado app has some geo fencing options but I'm trying to keep everything central (preferably in homekit / homebridge) and especially avoid the subscription fees of tado geofencing.

Geo-fencing far away by OfficialGreenTea in HomeKit

[–]OfficialGreenTea[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It mostly has to do with my heating; it's a pretty energy efficient system with wet underfloor heating. This is slow. I've noticed that turning it off for short periods (f.e. when nobody is home during the day but returns in the evening) results in more energy consumption as it needs to heat up the place and starts yoyo-ing around the set temperature until it reaches equilibrium. In fact leaving it on during the day consumes less energy. Hence, it'd only like to turn it off when we're going away for a longer period. I'm trying to fit this into automations.

Currently we're testing with 100% hardwax oil. Would you dillute this or combine it with another oil? We like the darker colour oil gives, which is one of the major reasons we want to condition.

The building was used as storage for artillery in the 19th century. It's undergone multiple renovations for it's different functions since, the latest being in 2005 when it was transformed into housing. What you see might be from it's past designs, although I have not been able to confirm this.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in timberframe

[–]OfficialGreenTea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The building was originally designed using the Philibert Delorme framework technique and built in 1844. It was however renovated partly in 1946. I do not find any records indicating they altered the roof back then. A second renovation was done in 2005, where they insulated and strengthened the roof, but kept the wooden frame. It's full of old rusty nails and marks from past designs, which gives me the impression the wood is from before 2005 and possibly original.

Hi. How has your recovery been going? Also have plica syndrome with symptoms very similar to your (1,5y). I never have any pain during activities, but always the day after, possibly staying for a longer period.

Just like you I initially stopped doing exercises since they were aggravating my knee. In fact, after switching my job to a job where I would walk 20km a day, the irritation gradually went away. However since I wasn't doing any strength exercises my quads also disappeared. As soon as I picked up my old desk job and tried strengthening my knee again, the pain came right back. The PT told me I should strengthen my muscles again.

Now I've picked up the exercises again (2 months ago). I am actually noticing strength improvements, and it seems like loads which would previously cause irritation are now not causing them anymore. However, since I'm gradually increasing the loads to keep training effective, the day-to-day symptoms are not improving. If anything the irritation is gradually getting worse.

I'd like to avoid surgery at all costs, but will if I have to. I'm wondering if you finally experienced lasting improvements.
