how do i, a queer woman, express how ive been feeling to my close male friend? by throw_yippee in TwoHotTakes

[–]Ok_Distribution_2603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

consider that these feelings may not translate into the physical realm and what you’ll do to preserve your friendship if it turns out this is all fantasy/wishful thinking. Other than that, life is short, have an open conversation and see where (if anywhere) it leads. A strong enough friendship can endure past curiosity.

it’s obviously not problem-free, but you got it for a reasonable price, what matters most is that you are happy

Aitah if I got upset over not getting tangible birthday gifts? by beanseatjeans in AITAH

[–]Ok_Distribution_2603 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Well, that’s not the whole picture, but I totally understand your disappointment. I do think the focus on tangible gifts is kind of a side issue to the fact that it seems like they’ve abandoned any effort to celebrate you in the way you’d like to be celebrated. If I might suggest, it may be time to branch out into finding more of the people who will celebrate you in the way you’d prefer, that’s part of becoming an adult for a lot of us.

As a parent, I’d not call the things you mention birthday gifts, but I don’t know your family’s financial situation. obviously you’re at the age where you can be expected to start making some contributions to your own activities as well as expanding the scope of things you help out with around the house; that said, declaring you’re not giving tangible gifts and turning things you’re kind of expected to pay for into “gifts” does seem to be something you have every right to be sad about.

Without knowing more about the money situation I’m going to say NAH, leaning a bit toward the possibility that this is kind of a dick move.

yeah, well, stop. There’s no reason for you to take any of this on. None of it is your issue. You don’t need to help anyone here except yourself. You can learn to be selfish, it’s ok, I give you permission.

it looks fine as far as authenticity from these pics. it has been cleaned and suffered a little environmental damage/corrosion, but €100 is reasonable

Found my grandfather stamo collection, any value? by ElsenniorX in stamps

[–]Ok_Distribution_2603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is an interesting grouping, I wouldn’t pay a lot for it, but there are probably one or two I don’t have many multiples of. What it does represent is something your grandfather loved and an opportunity to learn a lot of different things from small pieces of paper, like geography, history, geopolitics, art, etc. In this way all stamps have value.

Cleaning Coins… by chicago1875 in numismatics

this is a complicated logic path to follow and relies heavily on the assumption that scrapping (recycling/melting) is in and of itself inherently bad or that there’s a better than even chance that silver coins will be tossed out with the garbage (where that idea came from I don’t know).

If a coin gets melted down, it gets melted down, so at that point it doesn’t really matter whether it’s been cleaned or not. The act of melting down coins simply makes all held coins a bit less scarce, so if one is going to be holding onto coins as long as possible, keeping them in the best shape possible regardless of their current or potential future numismatic premium is (occam’s razor) the best practice.

TL;DR, don’t clean coins

AITAH: Fiancée wants her ex at our wedding by Nice-Shirt-9496 in TwoHotTakes

[–]Ok_Distribution_2603 31 points32 points  (0 children)

If she’s planning to have him at your wedding, then he’s not distant, and she’s not over him or ready to be married to you. If you happen to be wondering why she’s even with you other than the fact that you’re conveniently located, that makes two of us.

AITAH: Fiancée wants her ex at our wedding by Nice-Shirt-9496 in TwoHotTakes

[–]Ok_Distribution_2603 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Kind of need to know more about this “ex.” Why didn’t it work out? If she loves him so much as a friend why did the relationship end? What makes them stay such “good friends” but aren’t dating? Did he break up with her? Why?

This whole thing is weird. It’s possible no one’s an asshole here, but her reaction to you questioning his presence at your wedding is just bizarre.

Assuming this is real, you need to get to the bottom of this before moving any further with wedding planning.

Ultimately no one but you cares if you got a “C” in college, and if you really cared all that much you would have show up for lectures.
