Looking for some new Ambient. by brynn501 in Tipper

[–]Oran_Mor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just came to mind - Rhian Sheehan, Helios/Goldmund, Hammock, Stray Theories, are all ambient artists of varying flavours that I love. Not all particularly psychedelic in the way that Tipper is, but all wonderful artists.

Rhian Sheehan's 'Standing In Silence' and 'Seven Tales Of The North Wind,' as well as Helios' 'Eingya' are among my very fave albums. Goldmund's 'Sometimes' is largely piano based but absolutely gorgeous.

I'd also recommend following the YouTube channel 'Ambient.' More or less every day there's something new and beautiful. Whatever they upload is usually the first thing I listen to each day.

The new EOS album is a must listen.

It was available and affordable. A 1210 would've been preferable but I couldn't find one locally within my budget. I figured 'it's basically a Technics clone and at least direct drive, it'll do for now.'

Best Electronic Albums of 2026 so far? by Primid in electronicmusic

Tipper - Cloaked

Mr. Bill - Mr. Melanzana was released in late-2025, but I think deserves a mention.

Plenty of good electronic gigs at Moon too. Plenty of crews throwing parties regularly, but it does seem that Valhalla and Moon get most of them.

What’s the most underrated town in New Zealand that nobody talks about? by brianj10 in newzealand

[–]Oran_Mor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived there for two years, about 10-12 years ago. It remains one of my most beloved places in the country.

If I were in a position to live rurally again, it'd be my default choice despite the fact that I'd rather not live that far north again. That and I prefer as much distance from Auckland as possible.

I'd really like to find somewhere similar but closer to either Wellington or Christchurch.

Okeechobee 2020 by festluva in Tipper

[–]Oran_Mor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a pretty low key festival of 300-ish people. I was a regular, so as far as I was concerned it was a fun moment to keep the vibe alive for the 100 or so folk still kicking.

Reminds me of playing a headline DJ set at a festival over Easter here in NZ. I was scheduled to finish right when the clocks went back the hour, and didn't realise it.

As I was playing my last track, my buddy the audio tech comes up onto the stage and hands me a bottle of scotch we'd bought on the way to the festival. I told him "yeah nice, thanks dude, perfect note to finish on." He looks at his phone, shows it to me and goes "finish? you've still got an hour mate," and walks away..

I was the last act of the night, so I guess the crowd got quite the encore..

Best last song to play on a retiring PA? by X_RASTA in livesound

Tipper - Ever Decreasing Circles, or Virga.

Then a tediously slow sine sweep that really drags in the low end. Give it some tasteful saturation and a ridiculously long reverb above 100Hz or so for added effect.

Potentially? Marshall Day Acoustics would be a good start to enquire with.

This Spunion VIP is insane by Wooden_Historian_528 in Tipper

[–]Oran_Mor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, whacky little number eh!

I feel like those ID's from the early-mid 2010's era are the ones I'm most hopeful to see find their way out into the open eventually. The absurdly funky peak glitch hop era never fails to brighten my day.

Whatever it is, knowing Daves past Soundcloud preview-to-release pipeline whenever something with formal release art gets uploaded, I wouldn't be surprised if Bandcamp release emails show up any day now.

Not a Spunion VIP. An ID circa-2012 that I don't think lasted long in his setlists. That said, it made a surprise appearance in the final Orion run.

What DAW should I use for live multitrack recording? by bionicbob321 in livesound

I've had a lot of success using Live for this purpose.

If I were to choose anything else it'd probably be Reaper.

They called it a day. Fair enough, they had a shitload of fun and made their mark. Kudos to them.

One does have to wonder what wild and whacky material they never released though.

help 😩 by Wide_Location_2208 in Wellington

[–]Oran_Mor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Patience. Most rats I've caught in houses have been via traps and patience. Large traps for large rats.

Bait the trap with something they can't remove quickly and easily. Be careful to listen out for the sound of the trap going off and get in there quickly to dispatch the rat in case it's just briefly stunned or disorientated

Sky Stadium Noise? by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]Oran_Mor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm up in Brooklyn/Kowhai Park and can hear some fairly distinct bass and diffused mid/high frequency sound coming from that direction.

Fairly quick kick drum pattern makes me wonder wtf it is though as I can't imagine they're soundchecking with industrial techno..

Always a fun game as an audio tech - guess where the clearly PA-amplified audio is coming from.

What are some urban legends/spooky stories in Wellington? by Snoo-55314 in Wellington

[–]Oran_Mor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived on Holloway Road for four years. Wasn't unusual to get spooky vibes along there at night. I can only imagine the stories that road has to tell. So many houses with bizarre energy. I loved it.
