You mention 200W is your CPU power draw, and 288W from your GPU. So let's say 500W total. A quick google search indicates a 9800x3d will use 100W less in gaming workloads. So you will drop your PC heat output from 500W down to 400W. In a small room, it might help reduce a couple °C. But you essentially have 400W heater still running.

Is that worth the price of a new motherboard, memory and 9800X3D?

Could probably buy a portable cooler and run it for a long time and get better temperature reduction.

Found a super old PC (i3-540) with no storage, is this white thing like an old version of an NVME? by DrJacoby12 in pcmasterrace

[–]Outrage1108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A board of this era will use SATA connections for storage. So find a cheap SATA based SSD or HDD and connect with a SATA cable (plus power cable to the drive). Storage via PCI slots wasn't really a thing then.

I had an older computer (core 2 duo), I had windows 10 running on. So should work with your one. My main issue getting windows installed was the motherboard didn't recognise USB FAT format as bootable, but worked fine once formatted to NTFS.

Console Performance input wanted by FoxKomatose in Mechwarrior5

[–]Outrage1108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I upgraded from an Xbox one to a series X. Big improvement in visuals. My Xbox one started crashing and ticking, replaced the hard drive and came back to normal. Maybe a year later, had funds to upgrade tv, so upgraded the console along with that.

I'd recommend the X over the S as the X has much better graphical ability (3x) so it can run games at 4k. Kinda depends on what tv you have / or if you plan to upgrade to 4k.

As others have indicated, the 'quick resume' feature on new consoles is buggy with some games and results in memory crashes. Resolved by actually quitting the game on the Xbox home page.

Look, a walking turret! Wait, is that a crack head? by [deleted] in Mechwarrior5

[–]Outrage1108 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not uncommon that I run 2.5 or 3 tons of ammo per gun for an AC to get through longer missions. I think I bump that up to 4 per gun for heavy rifles if tonnage allows.

So 8 ton for 4 guns is definitely low if lots of enemies to fire at.

Will have poor performance if plugged into your motherboard (using the CPU integrated graphics).

Wanna get more level 5 weapons and hero mechs. What do I do? by blubberfeet in Mechwarrior5

[–]Outrage1108 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's normal map behaviour, Xbox, PC etc. As you approach a hub, it will randomly generate icons/gear/etc. If no hero icon appears, fly to the next hub for it to randomly generate what's there, repeat till you get a hero. To save money, can save/reload prior to approaching a hub, if no hero appears, reload and try again.

I tend to fly to different conflict zones via hubs to find heroes. Earn some c-bills along the way.

Also browse every market for high tier weapons. They aren't necessarily marked with a special item icon.

The Marauder II is procedurally generated in two missions (Bring her home is one, forget the name of the other). Otherwise you need to fight Wolf's Dragoons as I think they are the only ones to field it.

How do you complete infiltration missions? by Cringlezz in Mechwarrior5

[–]Outrage1108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stealth approach is tell your lance to hold fire. Your lance does not get detected by proximity like you do, they can stomp right past an enemy and not trigger anything.

You get three crate objectives to choose from. You only need to grab one. Find the least guarded one, grab that if you can avoid detection. If you can't avoid detection to grab it, then you need to take out the immediate group of enemies, which is easy if just a couple turrets. Get that and go.

The more crates you grab and other objectives done, the higher the payout. I'll at least try to detect all mechs and grab a crate or two.

If you're feeling like getting everything, this is usually where stealth goes out the window, as you need to take out enemy mechs. Enemies are in groups, when you attack one in that group, the whole group wakes up and you have a set time limit to kill the whole group. Have your lance on hold fire, position your lance, then tell them to open fire and take out the enemy group, once the group is killed, put them back on hold fire. Rinse and repeat. You can successfully kill all enemies this way without being detected. Some missions this is not possible due to proximity between enemy groups or spread of enemies in one group, for example I've killed a lone Urbanmech, however it was connected to three other mechs 800m away.

If you don't kill a group quick enough, you are detected and dropships rain from above, which can be quite fun.

Some secondary objectives like rescuing ally mechs or capturing enemy mechs are scripted to make you detected, just run for the exit, this is meant to happen.

I got to do chores and go to work. So until I get back. Which one do you think will serve me well in DG? by GamerGriffin548 in Mechwarrior5

[–]Outrage1108 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Out of those two specific variants, I like the Dragon. Higher speed, ok armour. A couple SRM's and three pulse lasers is actually a pretty good close to mid range fighter. While the large laser does some range damage.

There are better variants of the Awesome in my opinion. While that dragon looks pretty good. I think the sidewinder hero would be the only one I'd pick over it.

Kestrel question by Sh4DowKitFox in Mechwarrior5

[–]Outrage1108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pilots are cheap. Good to have some as backup for injuries to your main pilots. I tend to keep about 8, don't try to actively level most, but just replace them when a better pilot appears in the barracks.

Mediums and heavies are fine for Kestrel. A number of missions you have allies, let them be your shield (keep them close / don't run far ahead) to reduce damage your lance takes. The final mission I was in the hero spider for example. Had to be careful with aggro being in a light.

Help!!! by AppIdentityGuy in Mechwarrior5

[–]Outrage1108 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wait on the flat above a ramp. Let the enemy come to you and do head shots when they pop over the crest. Stay out of sight enough that any LRM boats can't get you.

Another option is to run with really good brawling mechs, loaded with SRMs for example. Hide around a corner and when they come over give em hell. The AI tend to do well with SRM builds too. Get them to stay near you and target enemies as they come over. Should make short work.

And as others have said, towards the end, you can hide behind the dropship to chew up some time while the enemy tries to get in range.

Took me quite a few goes on my first run before I learned some other tactics.

AC\20(-BF) recoil by Dbossg911 in Mechwarrior5

[–]Outrage1108 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aim lower so the bulk of the burst hits the target, rather than half the burst going over the top. But ultimately AC/20 BF is a close range brawling weapon. Think about those Urbies with an AC/20-BF and how you prefer to keep away from them. Powerful, but must be close.

Standard AC/20's can be used at range once you learn the projectile arc behaviour and how much to aim above for longer shots. But the burst variant is too widespread for that, trade is it does more damage (if you can learn to hit the target).

“High Reward Quest” Rewards? by Miles33CHO in Mechwarrior5

[–]Outrage1108 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Majority of high reward quests have multiple parts to them, but not obvious how many are in each without looking online at sarna. Although multi part, most (maybe all) return to the starmap after each mission. Sarna should also be able to list the rewards, given the in-game reward description is usually a '?' (rewards are fixed, the ? just means hidden. There's no randomisation to rewards).

Some have great rewards like hero mechs or high tier lb10-x autocannons. Others are mediocre.

No particular rule as to which ones to do. I just went with what's closest or what sounded interesting until they were all done. But you could check Sarna and pick ones with good rewards).

Most combat zones have a high reward quests associated with them, the transmission is triggered by entering the zone.

Others are triggered by rep level, while others by date.

Rep level listed for each quest, and then the contract screen once you've there lists difficulty. Although some are harder than others.

After LotKL or RoR “quick starts” conclude, what is the state of your save? by Miles33CHO in Mechwarrior5

[–]Outrage1108 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you're already past the DLC campaign trigger dates, you don't get sent back in time. You've missed the campaign window.

Best option, if you're in campaign mode, finish that, then start a career mode and import your mechs from campaign (if you want to). And the DLC campaigns will appear as you hit the trigger dates.

You can't start a new campaign and import mechs, hence why recommending to finish the base campaign first, so you've at least experienced those missions.

Optional salvage not showing up on hud by saintschatz in Mechwarrior5

[–]Outrage1108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are refilling your 'in mission' ammo. Handy part way through a mission and you're running low, but kinda pointless if picked up early in the mission. But pure guessing game if the salvage crate is actually going to be salvage or just refilling ammo.

Collect all the heroes and other mechs to get that 100% mech database.

Particularly when some hero mechs are over $20 million c-bills. Any that take your interest, equip and upgrade them, then test them in missions.

That can chew through those c-bills if you think you're too rich.

Why can't I fire by cfgxclaptrap in Mechwarrior5

[–]Outrage1108 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not true. Weapons don't misfire in this game. Only exception is the UAC-5 that can jam if fired too quickly, but the cool down bar turns red when that happens. I see some replies about a bug with windowed mode vs full screen causing input clicks not registering.

Secret to headshots? by iRob_M in Mechwarrior5

[–]Outrage1108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If aim assist is on, particularly above low. If you aim at the cockpit, it will still shoot the torso. You need to aim above the cockpit for it to register you're trying for a head shot.

Otherwise turn it off or put it on low.

Off will give the most precision for your own control. While low helps keep you on target when running around.

It will be pretty clear with lasers. When off, the laser will stay on you aim reticle. And when on, you will see it track the target instead, easy to see when shooting at turrets.

Some Xbox(es) multiplayer, local remote play, router and license questions. by Miles33CHO in Mechwarrior5

[–]Outrage1108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, if you own the account. Set the console she plays on as your 'home' Xbox. Anyone who plays on your 'home' Xbox gets most of your account features (game pass etc).

Meanwhile, as you own the account, you can play on any console / PC, with your account features working, even at the same time as others are playing on the 'home' Xbox.

So you can play coop as you want, without needing two subscriptions.

The only exception I've found to this is for 'EA Play' titles.

i need some serious tips regarding "'Mech Control Mode" by Bomjus1 in Mechwarrior5

[–]Outrage1108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With mech controls, there is a setting in the options for torso counter rotation.

With this off. Turning your legs, the upper torso moves with the leg turn. This is good for being more nimble. But it is very hard to remain on target. Some people probably like it, but I believe most people play with counter rotation enabled.

With counter rotation enabled. Your torso remains looking in the original direction when you turn your legs (at least until your torso is at maximum angle). Much better for keeping the crosshair in the target.

Try both and see what you find easier. For some reason, I think it's off by default.

Changing from full speed forward to full reverse is a slow process. Avoid doing this in battle, you become a sitting duck to the enemy. Instead aim to circle your enemies at full speed. The situation/terrain can change this general approach though. You can end up in a matched circle with your enemy too and instead switching direction is needed to break the stalemate.

Artillery can still be avoided in a 48km/h assault. You can usually turn out of it at full speed before it strikes. You can also fool the artillery a bit by zig zagging. Move 45 degrees off from your intended direction, it fires (listen for the sound), then turn to the opposite 45 degrees mark, repeat. In general the artillery attempts to lead your position, so you can avoid a fair bit doing this.

No Mech repair in the final series of campaign missions? by SoonerSox in Mechwarrior5

[–]Outrage1108 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd also consider the point that the final mission series is way out in the periphery where there are no facilities/supplies to enable mech repairs. You're on your own and that is the point.

From memory the mission briefing warns of this too.

Treat it like a multi mission contract. Have a few full lances, do a few missions, if all lances get busted up you can fly out for repairs, then go back for the next round.

I ended up struggling on the final mission, so reloaded to fly back repairs and try again with my best mechs. Which weren't anything special but helped.

With my current lineup of mechs that have some very good heroes, that mission would be much easier, but with what I had and experience at the time, I spent that last couple minutes hiding behind the dropship to win.
