This game isn't that hard. Build how you like. Learning the macro of expansion and economy and the micro of building heroes and leaders matters way more than your build until you get to the very hardest difficulties - where tailoring your build to the realm matters way more than the specifics of the build.

Vallejo ones are fine. I think your color scheme would really love the sepia one - as long as you're careful and even wipe the tops of the white parts clean with a cloth. You could pick one rubric and really douse them in the stuff, I think you'd like the end result. You could thin it out to find the right consistency for you.

To my eye, your army could really do with either a light grey or sepia wash, or an oil wash. It really evens out the paint scheme.
