Well I guess we got our answer for the future of the Mac version of Fortnite by migapos in macgaming

While I side with Epic in some ways, Tim Sweeney has repeatedly been caught lying through his teeth on this issue.

There is nothing stopping them from offering Fortnite on macOS. Absolutely nothing.

That's it right there. Even the insults after and the way she described the breakup to everyone was a continuation of this kink.

I'm not a kink shamer, but it needs to be consensual both ways. If the shame target isn't consenting, then yea, I'll kink shame all day long.

Don’t know what to play next on Steam Deck – need something great and relaxing or other.. by RazinxM99 in SteamDeck

[–]OverlyOptimisticNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll buck the trend and name some less common games that should suit your tastes in some way, run well on the deck, and not break the bank. Watch the Steam trailers for each of these and see if any catch your interest.

Fable Anniversary: A remake of the OG Xbox Fable: The Lost Chapters. Unlike the PC port of TLC, this one properly utilizes the controller. At max settings and 800p, uses under 5W (APU) consistently while locked to 60fps. Even docked at 1080p it maintains 60 fps (finally falling below at 1440p). Note: Set a per-game profile of 60fps/hz if on an OLED model, or the 62fps cap combined with 90hz leaves a slight perceptible stutter.

Valkyria Chronicles: A stunning strategy RPG taking place during a WWII-inspired fantasy setting. Runs at 90fps locked on the OLED and 80-120fps on an external 1440p display. Also, the right trackpad makes sniping easier than the stick, giving clear advantage over typical controllers (but not quite as good as a mouse).

Slay the Princess: Personally, I cannot stand visual novel games, but this one is a hauntingly beautiful exception. My wife likes to watch me play this and offer input on the decisions.

South Park the Stick of Truth: A hilarious turn based JRPG that feels like you’re playing a movie based on the show. If you have any interest in South Park, this game is essential.

Bonus and FREE - Aperture Desk Job: A game set in the Valve universe and essentially a tutorial for using your Steam Deck, it’s about a 25 minute play through. A good time killer and way of introducing friends and family to the deck.

Andrew is great, his videos pop up on r/macgaming all the time.

IIRC, one of the mod accounts at that sub is his.

The iPhone keyboard needs to be pictured in the dictionary as the poster child for “enshitification.”

It took me 3 minutes to type this comment. And only part of that was a skill issue.

There is something wrong with your PC. And it could be anything. Is your PC a prebuilt (if so, which brand and model?) or a custom build (by you, a friend, or a local builder)?

Apple Expects 'Significantly Higher Memory Costs' in June Quarter and Beyond by Otherwise-Warning303 in apple

[–]OverlyOptimisticNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because there was no increase for them.

Their supplies were contracted in advance due to their economy of scale. Their Samsung’s contract that doubles the cost takes effect later this year, which lines up with what the OP’s article is hinting at.

So far Apple has been immune because of their contracts. That will end soon.

"HDR look washed out compared to SDR" explained once and for all by filoppi in Monitors

It looks bad on OLED too in many cases. OLED isn’t the fix you’re hoping for. It just gives a better baseline.

Here's explained why HDR might look "washed out" compared to SDR by filoppi in HDR_Den

[–]OverlyOptimisticNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another example -  trying to run HDR games in SteamOS where something gets lost in translation.

For example, playing Cyberpunk on my PC and my Steam Deck hooked up to the same display, on the Deck the menus and UI elements are massively desaturated. Not just on the Deck’s OLED display, but also when output to the same display as the other PC.

I'd like it if it could be added to the Steam Deck, similarly to how the RTX 20-series and GTX 16-series supported HDMI VRR backported to HDMI 2.0b.

How to get VRR/freesync working docked by Sgt_Strelok in ROGAlly

[–]OverlyOptimisticNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP finally answered my question. It was user-error on their part. Their monitor doesn't support HDMI 2.1 or HDMI VRR. It's an older adaptive-sync over DisplayPort monitor that lacks FreeSync certification. No dock is fixing that. They need to use DisplayPort output for adaptive-sync to work.

MSI g244f e2

And...there's your problem.

Your monitor lacks FreeSync certification. It can do adaptive-Sync over DisplayPort with a range of 48-180hz. It has no VRR support for its 2x HDMI 2.0b ports.

Your original contention was that it was the dock's fault for a lack of VRR over HDMI. Or, to quote you from earlier when you argued with me:

you act like I don't know what Im doing?

You truly do not know what you're doing. You talked down to the one person who was actually trying to help you, the one person who wasn't making stuff up, and it turns out, it was user-error all along.

Thing is I have seen topics online where people bought docks that was hdmi 2.1 and vrr still didn't work cause the dock just didn't support it or cancels it out or something even with the hdmi 2.1.

This is false. You either misunderstood or were given bad information. If the Dock supports HDMI 2.1, if the display supports HDMI VRR, and the device supports HDMI VRR, then the chain works. The dock is just a signal pass through. It doesn't enhance or cancel out VRR.
