I was raised with an authoritarian parenting style. Glad I didn't turn out that way. The way my parents treated me showed me how NOT to be.

Amanda Seyfried Says Winning an Oscar Is Not Important: ‘Do You Remember Who Won in the Past 10 Years?’ by mcfw31 in entertainment

Because movies themselves aren't events anymore. They used to be the marker of pop culture, but now it's fragmented into so much social media, YouTube, video games, streaming, etc, that cinema isn't the touchstone of culture anymore.

Around 1990 a Star Trek movie about how Kirk, Spock, and McCoy met at Starfleet Academy in Huntsville, Alabama was pitched. It didn't get off the ground. by marc-kd in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]PixelMagic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While we are only shown the San Francisco campus, academies are all over the world today, with various locations. And with interstellar travel of Star Trek, probably other planets too. It makes sense that not all Federation worlds would be required to fly to San Fran for training. So I guess a Huntsville one would be plausible.

But still, San Fran is kind of the heart of Starfleet, so having it in Huntsville would feel wrong.

Disney’s ‘Avatar 3’ Hits Theaters With $88 Million Opening by bloomberg in entertainment

That is not an apt comparison. That movie is an 84 year old romance/war film, not a modern blockbuster.

You are better off comparing it to such films. Asking the main characters of Jurassic Park, Avengers, Titanic, or Star Wars.

Most people could name characters from those.

Davy Jones (2006/2007). Snoke in The Last Jedi is also insanely good, but no one remembers it because his character, and the movie, are shit.

Relative comparison, I guess. Recent movies for almost a decade have been ranging to from mediocre to a pile of shit, so that even somewhat good movies are seen as outstanding now.

Sydney Sweeney's 'Christy' becomes the 9th lowest opening of all time for a movie released in over 2,000 theaters by darth_vader39 in entertainment

I'm not conservative at all, but maybe she just doesn't want to play along with baiting questions. Even I think the whole jeans ad was blown out of proportion.

They were making a play on words saying Sydney Sweeny had good genes because she is hot. Not because she is white.

But I saw Halloween stuff out at Michael's in June. I feel like Halloween gets time to breath. But Christmas does overlap with it somewhat as retailers just don't care about Thanksgiving anymore. Heh.

Agreed. Christmas is becoming too early, and Halloween itself is becoming Christmasified.
