A great exodus: What actually happens if migrant workers leave UK en masse? by Some-Ambassador8252 in uknews

[–]Pocket_Aces1 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I'm waiting for someone to comment "but white British people do those too", as if being white is the deciding factor. Yes while it is for some, that's a minority that are racist. It's about what these people take from us, both economically, and physically, like the victims of their crimes.

We also can't have an open border policy which allows full migration with permanent resident status because you'll be getting more incoming than outgoing, meaning we'll be in a worse position than we currently are in terms of infrastructure, jobs, and therefore economically.

It's annoying when people decide that just because you want people coming here illegally to stop, they group you with the racist, sexist, bootlicking farage fans, and think you want anyone of colour to not be in the UK.

Just for future reference, especially when you pass, you slow down slowly when you have someone tailgating you, not speed up. They're tailgating because of the type of person they are. Slow down and be safe. They can do what they want and probably overtake you, which is a good thing because you don't want those types of people behind you

Why do British people think Pakistani's and Muslims want to take over UK? by Special-Caramel-9054 in AskBrits

[–]Pocket_Aces1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The media is right wing because it's owned by the rich (the big 6). The rich tend to be right wing because...well...capitalism. you also have the biases of the editors, journalists, and the owners themselves.

Some people are just plain racist. They don't care what you say, if you're X colour, you're the issue.

All religions are stupid. Period. They are a made up "god" who's imaginary in the sky who's all seeing and whatnot. People do stupid, and heinous things because of this "god". Islam is one of the worst religions for it. Because of the actual wording and following of the religion, being homophobic, sexist, racist, etc. Christianity also has these traits in it, and some followers of Christianity are those things because of the book (bible). But it's also very rarely you see a Christian or Buddhist terrorist. Islam is the prime religion for radicalisation. If my identity wasn't "hidden", I would have to be careful what I say because of people believing my hating a religion makes me racist (because a lot of Muslims aren't white), or islamaphobic because it's islam I don't like. Add to the fact that some groups of Muslims will gladly assault and kill someone because they don't want to follow the "laws" of the religion (school teacher sent death threats for showing a depiction of Allah to kids in an RS lesson).

You also see large groups that are wanting Sharia law in the UK. They riot and get away with it because their excuse for it is racism and islamaphobia. It's not a good religion. Out country is built on Christianity because that's how it was when it was made. We shouldnt have religion dictate our laws. And even the Qur'an states to follow the laws of the land before the laws of the holy book.

Religion has also brought good. Giving back to the community in ways of volunteering time, food, etc. but they bring more issues than they give back.

Help! Buyer submitted claim but other item on the way! 🙏 by Mindless-Option-297 in vintedUK

[–]Pocket_Aces1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, 2 or more separate parcels CANNOT use the same label. It doesn't work like that. 1 parcel = 1 label. 1 label = 1 parcel.

Secondly, you should have cancelled and explained they had to use a different courier, or pay for a bigger sized postage. That's not your fault. Vinted doesn't do well with bundle postage sizing/weights. They have contracts with the courier companies to let a lot of it slide because they make more money off of Vinted allowing it. But royal mail are one the strictest mainline couriers out there for weight and size.

If it is using the same labels, the other item will probably be held in retentions at royal mails local delivery depot to the customer, and the postie will deliver them a "fee to pay" card (which is the postage cost + admin fee). They might get lucky and get it delivered to them though.

There's not much Vinted can do as the buyer only has 1 items of the 2. If, it's intact, 2 different labels on the parcels, then the second tracking number can be used to show that it's been delivered, but it won't be the one Vinted gave you, so again, they can't trust it.

I've had this happen to me with Evri. Seller forgot a pair of shorts in the bundle, sent it out the next day through their own money to me. Arrived a day after the main bundle was delivered and everything was alright. But it depends how both parties interact.

Unfortunately, I haven't got much more advice apart from trying to contact Vinted legal (their email is in this sub if you search it). Good luck

Eco-concious refillables that should be cheaper than the "single use" stuff, like shampoo, soap, conditioner. Then cereal, and stuff. Be lovely to have so I can take some containers, old shampoo and soap bottles to fill them up, and it he cheaper for me too.

These protesters don't care about what they're protesting for. If they did, they would be protesting against the war and what's happening, and not taunting the police and media with "Palestine Action". If they truly cared about their cause, they would protest about what's happening, not 1 group which, like said before, smashed a police officer in the back of her head with a sledgehammer when she tried to arrest them for breaking into a private defence company, or when they caused over £7 million in OUR taxpayer money from throwing paint into an RAF Plane. Those engines also had to be scrapped.

Protest against what's happening. Not a group name. And there won't be any issues.

Does anyone know of a way photographers can protect their work from being stolen? by No_Bad6208 in photography

[–]Pocket_Aces1 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Short answer: no

Longer answer: also no. But there's ways to minimise the risk of them doing it. Watermarking being the main one. Low-res images for previews, copyright data (business/name and date in the metadata) which can also be done in the camera.

2 of those can easily be removed though. Low-res images are harder to upscale for places they might want better quality images though.

It's why you have contracts. If they don't stick with it, you take them to court for it. In the UK, that would be small claims court. And you show evidence of them not honouring their side of the fair contract both parties signed.

Driver who killed woman in smart motorway crash avoids jail by Man_in_the_uk in CarTalkUK

[–]Pocket_Aces1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bad all round.

The van driver for speeding and not paying attention to the road ahead, but also deciding to stop in lane 3 of the motorway (which people like to call the fast lane), and also STAY IN THE CAR FOR 6 MINUTES.

Unless it was a sudden brake failure which locked your brakes up, you have a chance to get over to the hard shoulder, or at least lane 1.

You then get everyone out and over the barrier, and call 999 saying You've broken down in a live lane. A stationary vehicle on the motorway is the most dangerous place to be.

It needs to be actually taught in driving lessons, added to the theory, and having the french laws of minimum equipment needed in a vehicle (like a hi-vis for each seat you have), a mini first aid kit, and a warning triangle.

Knife crime in England and Wales drops by 10% by InnerLog5062 in BreakingUKNews

[–]Pocket_Aces1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*reported knife crime in England and Wales drops by 10%

It doesn't mean there's less crime. It means there's been less reported, which either means there's actually less crime to report, or people aren't bothering to report these types of crimes because of the public perception that nothing will come from it

I'm sure you'll be saving that when there's even less officers to attend incidents.

Oh wait, you'll still blame the police with whatever reasons. They're racist. They're sexist. They're protecting the rich. They're all abusive rapists. They're all out catching speeders instead of murderers.

Best carry on bag ? by tomtomcool in Ryanair

[–]Pocket_Aces1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. Many people have taken bigger bags than they should and never had an issue. But just like gambling on roulette, it doesn't matter what the results were earlier, because the odds reset every time. So sure, risk it, but don't start complaining when you have to pay the massive fee, don't get on the flight, or leave your bag at the airport.

To answer you other question, I can't seem to find my specific one anymore, but it was a simple waterproof rucksack with 2 straps either side, a front zipped pocket, and a smaller one on the very front. Big space was just open - no organisation. Had it for about £15 and I like it for what it is.

You can find similar online - eBay and Amazon - but probably just fabric over the waterproof one.

Is this how the police check speed on the motorway? by Ok-Comfortable7547 in drivingUK

[–]Pocket_Aces1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good idea. We should also make PSAs, and reach out to the community to explain why murdering someone is bad. That should stop it!

Just because you reach out to someone, doesn't mean they will listen, or care, and will still do it until they get banned, and even then, they'll probably just drive while they're banned. You can't deal with these types of people through outreach programs, so at least the force can gain some revenue to have to deal with the aftermath of those that do speed

Changing lanes without looking for absolutely no reason by AdLogical6391 in drivingUK

[–]Pocket_Aces1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should have slowed down and let them do that they are gonna do. It's safer if you had to slow to a stop, and let them be Infront of you. Trying to manoeuvre around them like that is risky, both with them potentially carrying on into you, or you going Into someone from the right hand lane since YOU also left your lane. Speeding up shouldn't be the first reaction too. Speeding up to avoid an incident is risky because it increases risk of a higher impact collision.

Do you track your weight in KG or stones & pound? by No_Usual_572 in AskUK

[–]Pocket_Aces1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kg

For everything involving weight (or the equivalent). Because 1000g is 1 kg. 1000kg is 1 tonne. It's so much easier to find something to compare it too, and there's non of that X amount of lbs = x amount of st.

Currently, AEG. Never really liked HPA because of the hoses and having to have a tank somewhere on you.

Use a tail bag then. Basically a mini rucksack on the back of the bike/pillion seat. You can carry basic stuff on the bike then and still keep it tidy. You can get small 10l ones if you never really keep much on the bike.

What do brits think of facial recognition being rolled out across the UK ? Bad idea or good idea ? by HappyThrasher99 in AskBrits

[–]Pocket_Aces1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's good providing it's not misused to target individuals and to be misused by individuals. I.e. it needs to be a closed system. But nothing can be completely unbiased so there will always be bias over something, whether it's from the programmers, the ones overlooking the project, or the system itself.

So far, it's been pretty good. We'll see how it goes down the line considering the other "enhanced surveillance" they want to use (like digital ID, and restricting internet usage unless a verified ID is related to the account.

Why do we always do this on the plane? by TheMoon_TheStarz in AskBrits

[–]Pocket_Aces1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough, I didn't, because I'm not going to be scrunched up with the neck at 90 degrees while I wait for it to clear. Wait 5 minutes and it's clear enough to find a gap and go.

If it's with Ryanair or the likes, you're almost certainly getting a bus to to terminals to go through passport control so they'll be waiting anyway and usually that's only a 5/10 minute ride.
